Trying to beat Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!

Without using save states on my NES Classic, I can sometimes make it up to the second Bald Bull. But Mr Sandman is extremely tough, especially trying to dodge his Dreamland Express (his three uppercuts). In round 2, he will always do it after being knocked down. After Mr Sandman comes Super Macho Man, who is also extremely tough. He does two moves involving a roundhouse punch: one at random and the other always after being knocked down. The second one is a one-hit knockdown if it connects.

That's awesome! It's one of the hardest NES games I can think of that actually feels fun with its challenge, and rewarding to beat the next fighter. My goal is going to be to someday beat this thing with no save states. The furthest I've managed to get so far without using saves is to Mr. Sandman, but I haven't put him down in one go yet. Chat was telling us Super Macho Man was going to be a lot easier, but all I'm seeing right now is how tough he is. Guess I gotta learn Macho Man first, then he'll be easy... just need to time and dodge 6 consecutive one-hit knockdown spin punches!

@bunninaround I liked watching your stream, although I caught Mr Sandman. Super Macho Man, there is a second strategy. Not necessarily easier, but faster. When he does an uppercut, dodge it, then do a face punch. If he does a hook, again dodge it, then do a gut punch. It's tough to time it right, but it will give you a star. Both involve a slight delay after dodging. Soda Popinski, there's a cheat you can use. Hold the Down button until he does his crouching attack. He will significantly delay his uppercut, then you can gut punch him for a star, then use the star immediately to instantly knock him down.

Glad you enjoyed the stream! I love how deep this game actually is, and I'm gonna have to get all of these little hard to time tricks down if I'm ever gonna do the whole game with no losses. Soda Popinski is definitely where I start to get shaky and everything after that feels like I've had luck on my side more than anything!
