I can't wait for Part 4! hope it's not a long wait. You have done some beautiful soldering work again :)

Hi vince, I’ve fixed many PS4 with the same drift issues, and it’s actually unnecessary to completely desolder the potentiometer and replace it. If you unclip it the green potentiometer from the main stick assembly whilst its still soldered to the board, you can peel it back to reveal the white component inside. What happens is controllers that get used a lot develop carbon around the centre of the white component which interferes with the signal. A clean with the fibreglass pen and IPA removes the carbon, and you can also clean the inside of the green component the same way. After that just reassemble and clip the green component back into the stick and away you go. This has resolved 99 percent of stock drift issues I’ve come across. Hope this helps!

I've had success on my own controller using contact cleaner. Is there any lubrication in these analogue sticks from factory? Thanks.
@shaunmot5 жыл бұрын
@@alisdairherd9501 hello. As far as I can tell there's no lubrication on the thumbstick wiper or potentiometer.

I had the same problem with the damaged pins, straightened them and glued them with super glue. The same length for missing pieces of pins I solved a small shortening with scissors. It works. Nice video

Great job! You had me worried when you were talking about soldering that flex ribbon lol =D If it was not connecting due to that missing bit on the end, you could have just cut that little bit off the end and it would then make a good connection probably. But as it turned out it wasn't that single connection at fault anyway! =D Looking forward to pt 4!
@Operational1175 жыл бұрын
Yep. And at £1.75 for three new ones, it would still be a sensible thing to just fully replace them. And he'd have another two for future repairs.

Thanks Chris. I must remember your TTP tip on the ribbon cables :-) I have just edited Part 4, just need to edit up a quick version and hopefully I will get it on KZbin later tonight :-)

Another comment is that there are about 6 different models all with different boards inside. Sometimes you may have issues connecting the charge port side up with the main board side. If you look closely on the controller it should have a code similar to CUH-11 or something similar. The charge port board will have a matching board number only it will start with a J. So ideally you have to match these up for them to work.

I´m still using my PS3 Controller after fixing the flex cable that touches against the board which had contact issues and all the buttons didn´t work properly. Well i don´t use my PS3 but they´re great wireless controller via a 4€ bluetooth no name dongle and the unoffical, community based driver which works in both usb and wireless mode. It also charges the controllers very well via usb but you don´t get an battery indicator without opening the scp monitor or how this is called which can display the battery percentage. However they work for about 10h and then i have to plug them into my usb cable to charge and play. I also use a DS3 on my nintendo switch when i take the whole setup with me for mariokart multiplayer since the aftermarket wireless dongle is still way cheaper than a second pro controller and supports all kind of controllers for playstation, xbox and even the old wiiu pro controller if i remember correct.

For sticking sticks and drifting sticks, I've had a lot of success with pouring some 90%# isopropyl alcohol into the mechanism and giving it a good wiggle around a few times (with it switched off, of course) Your mileage may vary...contact cleaner would probably work, too

You should get some low melt solder it will make desoldering easier or get a proper desoldering gun.
@csgultekin5 жыл бұрын
Vince, here is the order for desoldering : flux, adding leaded solder (your solder looks like has too much tin in it, should be shinier), (suction first if has a big blob) solder wick to clean up the rest.

I've done a few joystick fixes and was confused on why he was struggling until I saw he didn't flux that shit up or use wick.

I went to cash converters today and I see they had loads of 3rd party ps4 controllers. I asked staff if they had any genuine controllers then said the 3rd party are as good. I said well they don’t work on the PS4 as they released an update to stop 3rd party controllers working. The guy just walked off 🤣. Thanks Vince for that great bit of info

Hey there Vince, great video as always 😁 Just an idea, have you considered changing just the white things with the tracks on it inside those analog sticks? It is definitely possible to swap those without any soldering 😉 And for the ribbon cable, it is possible to cut of a millimeter off of those when some of the tracks are starting to lift (which wouldn't help in this case i know) Keep up the good work, really looking forward to part 4 😁👍🏻 Greetings from Bavaria

You should use the case from the bad fake controller to replace the burnt controller case
@shaunmot5 жыл бұрын
John Swanson the cases often aren’t interchangeable due to the differences in components inside. You can cut parts of them out but and make them fit but it never a perfect fit.

great, i'm waitin for the 4th part, i have 2 PS4 v1 controllers that don't charge, the batterie and chargin port work fine, if i rememeber well, you have a similar problem with the last controller. about how to remove the potenciometter, did you try use compress air? i did it and works very well, i cover all the board with some tape leaving only the area where i go to work and i melt the solder and then just blow it, helps to don't damage the pads, becuase the pads in ps4 and xbox one potenciometters are small. just a doub, what model of multimetter do you use? i looking for one and yours looks like have all to this kind of work. best regards.

how did you update the firmware on the fake controllers? was is specificaly for them or sony controllers? was wondering if any firmware update for v1 official controllers is available. they become very laggy on android bluetooth connection in 30 seconds, while v2 don't have thigs issue.

Hey Vince. What would cause a controller to just randomly stop working in the middle of a game. The controller just freeze up and all inputs stop working. But the controller stays on. Have you had anything similar that you’ve seen?
