Good luck with that. I have had such a problem with a leak around a window in my travel trailer. I have caulking many times and it keeps leaking. A guy finally told me the only way to fix it is to take out the window and put a new seal in. Ugh there must be 500 screws in the window. So when I get back to FL I'm going to try to put a little aluminum awning above it. Hope yours is sealed.
@jigmonster1013 жыл бұрын
Just a quick idea about your canopy. If you think there is a low spot right at the center of the windows causing excessive draining, get a length of double sided velcro strap and just wrap around the canopy in the middle to snug it up and get rid of the low spot against the camper roof.
@JF-fv6ld3 жыл бұрын
I thought I saw something in your previous video with the leak. It looked like you had a clamp screwed in right near where it was leaking. It's possible the screw had penetrated the drain channel. Maybe take the screw out squirt some silicone in there and put the screw back that might help too. Good luck Hope you stay dry.

What’s going on Quady? Hope you’re well brother. I think you took the best steps you could for now as far as finding and fixing the leak. I heard you mention there wasn’t much rain in the foreseeable future, what do you think about setting up a garden hose over the top of the shell with one of your cameras zoomed in to get a good look at where the water might be seeping in? Could be a good test after your silicone dries if you don’t have Mother Nature on your side to test it!

In the RV world we call those "bus windows". It's not uncommon for those to to leak along the top edge of the gasket where it touches, in your case, the fiberglass topper. The water flows and works it's way around the edge and comes out the bottom as you found out. As for sealant, I prefer ProFlex or Dicor. It's kind of messy to work with. But it's what it is made for. It is standard spec caulk in the RV industry. I always enjoy your vids.
@rowdybroomstick12163 жыл бұрын
I'm not in the industry but why wouldn't he use a water hose to find the leak , I've never heard of using air to find a water leak? I would've used a water hose on low pressure and started at the top of the bed and bottom of the topper and verified it's not the bed seal because those topper's move and vibrate alot and destroy the seal fairly quickly, or at least the topper I had when I was an olan mills portrait photographer I kept all my camera equipment in the back I was constantly fighting leaks!
@rowdybroomstick12163 жыл бұрын
Then move the water up to the window starting at the bottom then going to the top! Process of elimination.

Just a suggestion... I Iive in a 28’ Dutchman “Ultralight” RV. The only sealant that works hot or cold for me on a window is marine sealant. Shockingly, Flex Seal (the more or less putty version) is an amazing solution on the roof with latex paint to cover it for UV protection. However, simple silicone caulk has been nothing but a dirty joke on the windows (or anywhere else)... From my experience it just does not flex well, and anything on the road flexes just like the seals on the last dozen or so airplanes that I have flown... Hope the fix works for ya!!! No joke bro! Keep up the Awesomesauce!!! 🖖

Aren't those the drain holes for the window channel? So those holes should be exposed from the inside if you look down in the channel where the window slides. Closed you should be able to vac out the channel and then open the window and vac out the rest of the channel. Hope you got it fixed. * I checked mine and there are rubber guides down in the channel and makes it hard to vacuum the channel.

You're a pretty good engineer. I was wondering why you didn't just pull your awning over it the other night.
@SalP123c3 жыл бұрын
You know man, a lot of these window seals are actually NOT designed to stop water from leaking past them, persay, but they have a ducting system that let the water leaking past drain out onto the ground. My sunroof is a good example of that, it started leaking into the body of the car, causing the rear seatbelt to be soaking wet Everytime it rained. At first I thought it was the seals because there was even a certain part of the seal that you can almost see through and water could go through very easily but actually it was that the drain tubes that drain the leaked in water away were completely clogged. I blew them out with compressed air just like you did and I didn't have to add any sealant at all. Even though the rubber seal itself kind of leaks water when I push on it just like yours did, that had nothing to do with the water leaking into the car, it was just the clogged ducting system. Very interesting pieces of engineering these windows and seals are

Just put a few wedges under the tarp to create a space for the water to flow thru. Space them apart. Like maybe cut a few pieces of pool noodles and put between the tarp and the roof.
