Great stuff Vince! Regards the LED behaviour difference between the chargers - one of them perhaps has a failed green LED (so it still works, but the green LED doesn't light). You can probably swap out those batteries pretty easy - look on eBay for 12V Lead Acid Alarm batteries - check the mAH rating and physical dimensions. EDIT: Assuming the ones on there are lead acid.
@Mymatevince5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris, the LED may well have failed as it was still outputting 28V. When I watched the video back I spotted underneath one of the battery packs that it had a sticker on it. I didn't notice it when working on it as I didn't look underneath but I presume the info would be written on there. The batteries are only $39.99 in America but cost £47.99 over here when advertised as Razor batteries so the alarm batteries might work out much cheaper. As always thanks for all the support and advice :-)

Just as others have stated, I would check the voltage drop of the batteries individually as one may be bad and not both. Additionally sometimes these types of batteries will have a resistor that will act as a thermal type fuse. It could be a battery is getting to hot under load and cutting out. Great video again!

Yo. One of the batteries on the packs could be internally shorted and acting as a resistor causing the pack to discharge. To be sure separate the pack and measure the voltage of each battery. If the voltage is too different the lower voltage one is dead. If they are connected in series you only need to buy one battery but if they are connected in parallel its complicated... They need to have the same capacity and be balanced.
@ftrueck5 жыл бұрын
As he gets 24V on the good one, you can say this is a 2S pack of 12V batteries.
@Mymatevince5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Vitor, I tried to work out if it was series or parallel off camera but the first battery had 2 red leads (from memory) so I couldn't work it out. I think as Florian Truck mentioned it is probably 2 x 12V in series. The battery looks like it had a label or printing on the bottom which I missed when originally filming. This would have given me the info if I had seen it in time :-)
@vitor9000005 жыл бұрын
@@Mymatevince Check the polarity of the one with 2 red leads with your multimeter. If they are in series and one is giving much less voltage than the other all you need to do is to buy one 12v battery with similar capacity (mAh / Ah)

Sealed Lead Acid Batteries are notorious for going bad. Often these kind of toys are left plugged in for weeks at a time, or drained completely dead, then never charged until the kids want to play with them again. During winter months this is terrible scenario for any Lead Acid battery, as you want at least a trickle charge during the winter/non-use long periods. Which also causes issues, but possibly not as much as a problem. Drained and left in the shed during cold months, then charged probably killed a cell. Very common, even in cars.
@typicalpctech66745 жыл бұрын
One of the batteries might be ok, but with 1 new and 1 old battery, it would just fail again sooner then if you bought just the 1 battery. If they were only going to enjoy it for 1 more summer, I'd say 1 should do, but if you want more use, buy 2, then story the batteries in warmer weather when not used for long periods of time (tip for the original owner), or anyone that doesn't already know.

Hi, I used to be a customer service engineer. Worked mostly from PCP (cab) to house but sometimes had to do exchange work. I was unlucky when I started as customers were getting 2nd lines for dial up internet....Every job normally involved running a new dropwire, internal cabling and the proving the pair back to the cab. Years later nearer the end before I left I used to do a lot of fault finding and I loved doing that :-)

Vince, thats a hall sensor, the metal plate is a magnet, what is weak at the beginning, getting stronger till the end. / There is a chance, that only one battery was dead only.
@Mymatevince5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info on the hall effect sensor. Yes, I wish I had separated out the batteries to see which one was faulty. Others have said they might be just alarm batteries so replacing one may have been cheap. The problem here on this vid is I was without my normal tools so I was limited to what I could do :-)
@Random_44003 жыл бұрын
Those are lead acid battery's 12v each in series so = 24v if one of them goes under 10v that means the cells (or sometimes just one cell) in the battery are damaged (usually the voltage of a flat 12v lead acid battery is 11v) so 19v divided by 2 is 9.5v and because the voltage gets too low the charger won't recognize it hence why it wasn't charging

One battry might be lower voltage charged than the other therefor when you charge both battrys in series one is left not fully charged get a 12v charger to each battry making sure they are both same voage befor charging in series one battry might still be weak but it might be worth a try befor ditching both battrys
