TRYING TO FIX THE #8 SPARK PLUG ISSUE ON MY C4 CORVETTE ZR-1

In this video, I attempt to fix a spark plug issue on my 1994 C4 Corvette ZR-1. This is an issue that the car had when I bought it and I believe it is causing the car to run poorly. Surprisingly, changing spark plugs on the LT5 engine is pretty easy, you just need a good assortment of socket extensions. Follow along as I try to figure out the problem.

Congrats on what is yes a nerve racking endeavor! Mark Haibeck is such a valued member of the ZR-1 community; his knowledge, and willingness to help others is top notch! Long live the KOTH. There is a procedure to make a head that accepts the plug with a washer, into a head that will accept a washerless plug. it just involves torquing a washerless plug enough to put a bevel in the head at the plug mating surface; been a while since I looked at that procedure, so I won't quote the torquing numbers or sequence.

Mark and Bob Haibeck are the BOMB! They helped me also. My miss was the coils. FIXED! Next I have to remove cam covers and plenum and powder coat...oh my.

Did you have to replace the coils or was it an easy fix?

@@ReynoldsRides I had to remove the plenum (6th time in 2 weeks since I bought it. I also did fuel injectors, then all new vacuum lines) and replace them. It really wasnt hard. It had the originals in it. They are probably sellable to an NCRS guy. I also have twin 1989 Turbo Trans Ams with the Buick V6turbo. So, I had new coils laying around for them. Same coils.

I can mow remove the plenum in about 20 minutes.

I followed your posts on the ZR-1 registry forum. Glad you made it. I recently had the same job to do on a 1970 Merc inline 6 with aluminum head. Kinda scary procedure. How must it feel at #8 plug of an LT-5... Glad my plugs are seated nicely. It's a jewel of an engine you do not wanna mess up... So, congrats!

Always apply a tiny bit of copper thread ease on the spark plug threads. This is a must on aluminum heads. I use a tiny paint brush to apply the thread ease. It will make your next spark plug change a breeze.

Just remove the heater core cover and its a piece of cake to get to the plug . There are 5 - 1/4" socket screws . Oh and it is a $30,000 engine

The heads are aluminum. Aluminum doesn’t stick to magnets.
