Soldering is clearly overhyped. Taping the components down has many advantages. Things are way easier to replace and fix. No special tools/skills required. You can use less heat-resistant components, making things cheaper. Tape is non-conducting, reducing the risk of electric shock. Accidentally bridging contacts with solder is no issue anymore. You can run 1 strip of tape several times around the board, securing all components at once. No more burnt hands from holding the soldering iron the wrong way. You can get tape with your name printed on, so everybody can see who did a magnificent taping job. My brother-in-law sells tape, so he's going to make more money. I see only pros, no cons!

The capacitor that you removed looked like it said 22uF instead of 2.2uF. Maybe it was just the camera angle, but I didn't see a decimal point. Not sure if that would make a difference anyway. Either way, thanks for another great video and hope you feel better soon!

@@StezStixFix As a fellow console repairer with over 20 years electronics experience (Navy trained), I saw that cap and was immediately concerned you were replacing a 22uf with a 2.2. Having rewatched that section, I have to disagree with the above comment, that is indeed a 22uf cap. The 22 is printed multiple times and nowhere inbetween any instance of them is there a dot, as there is inbetween the 6.3v, camera angle isn't the issue. Not to call you out or anything, if it works in the end, great. But lower capacitance values in a circuit such as that can lead to issues down the line. Next time, please triple check and make sure you're using the right cap to avoid issues in the future.

That was a good fix and in situations where you can’t be sure of the expected behaviour it can be tricky to know how successful you’ve been. I’ve noticed that track damage near to places where people press on a board can generate mechanical wear even though the flexing feels trivial. If it comes back to you again just add a couple bits of wire avoiding that area of the board altogether.... remember the original designers wanted something that would be in the shops fast and as long as it worked for a year they were happy ... so many decades on extra reinforcements may well be the way to go. Keep up the great work 👍😀

Reminds me of our old Vic-20 which clearly had a loose solder joint in the RF box. If you pushed down from the top the picture would come on but otherwise not. So my Dad not being an electrical type (and this was like 1987) taped the thing up tight and then for more pressure to the floor (this was the era of 'TVs are furniture') just in front of the TV. Worked like a charm. Hhehehehe.

I think 1/ the original speaker was ok but needed to be cleaned from corrosion. 2/ the mistake i think you made when you tested your speaker from tiger game, is that you just forgot how to start the game. It seems you did not pushed acl , select, and right or left. I did not see you push the select area inside and that is why the game did not start, so no sound. I may be wrong... Anyway there are 4 big games with 2 real superposed different lcd screens. And 5 middle/small games with 2 screens smartly alternating on the same 1 and only lcd. (Like yours there).

So making a big deal out of it when you don’t know who’s tried to fix it is a bit ridiculous.
