Whether you realize it or not, your videos are providing a valuable life lesson. Many of us watching are laughing (or groaning) at some of your struggles because these things are common knowledge and simple to us. But the lesson is a reminder that these things are simple because at some point we had someone in our life teach us, or we learned by fumbling through trial and error. Your struggle with the thread tape is a perfect example of this. It's difficult for me to remember when I learned about thread tape because it was so far back. Even though I've used it probably hundreds of times, I still have to remind myself every time of the correct way to wrap it so it stays on when I screw on the piece. I hope you're not too hard on yourself when you learn what you're doing wrong, or what you could do better. You are building a valuable set of skills as you learn to do all these things while fulfilling your dream.

And build a little shelter for the pump. And get a large water tank for under the platform and you can buy a 12volt rv pump to run your shower off the tank so its easier to pump. Just fill the tank with the big punp every few days as needed. Looks like so much fun! Cheers!

The one thing I didn’t see next to the teflon tape stuff (yes, unthread the things, put the tape on the same direction it will be threaded in) was actually priming the pump. You could also just take the transparent pipe into the lake, put your palm on the end, take it to the pump and quickly connecting, so the pump doesn’t have to pull all that air out of the pipe. You could also fill the filter and motor from the lake first. But start with putting the teflon tape inside the threads, so the pump has a chace to get rid of the air. As others put it too, boiled linseed without the tar should be nice for the inside to protect the wood. Might have worked outside too, but I’m sure the pine tar will make the wood much more resistant to the elements. And you HAVE done quite a lot! Most of us just sit in front of the TV or phone and watch you 😅😅

Teflon tape is used to seal the interior of pipe threads. It won't work on the outside. Also, your pump needs to be shielded. It's not entirely weather proof. A plastic box will usually do the trick.
@stevewalters45653 ай бұрын
The Teflon tape you use for the threads on the different pipe fittings (connectors). Take the fittings apart apply the tape. The Teflon tape goes on a certain way. Reassemble the fittings for the suction and discharge of the pump. Reassemble and tighten the fittings starting at the pump working your way out. Don’t over tighten. You’re doing great! Keep on Truckin! A suggestion if you’re doing mechanical things watch a video and have it handy when doing the work.
@joebuilds3 ай бұрын
The tape is meant to go on the treads before screwing the pieces together. When you wrap the tape make sure you wrap it in the same direction as your fitting threads on. This way it gets tighter and stays on. Also you always “prime” a pump unless it’s self priming. Priming is adding water until the pump can build pressure the more water you add the quicker it will build. Also in your case your exit line is flexible (the garden hose) you can temporarily crimp it which will also help build back pressure. For your wood treatment, if you want the color lighter increase the ratio of linseed oil to pine tar. Keep up the good work!!!

Any leaks on the suction side will cause problems, it's also advisable to fit a non return valve to prevent the pipe from emptying every time. If you can keep the water in the suction side it will pump every time.👍
@tylerzerbe68613 ай бұрын
that teflon tape you're using is supposed to go on the threads at each joint and then you thread the joint together with the thread inside. it seals the threads up so you dont get leaks. pro tip: pay attention to which way-round you wrap the tape as well. you want it wrapped in such a way as to not be twisting against it when you tighten the fitting on also you want as few air bubbles in your system as possible. anywhere where there's air, try to make sure and fill it with water. the hose to the lake, the little catch-filter, it might even be beneficial put a cap on the end of the hose uphill when you're not using it so that the hose stays full of water kinda like when you put your finger over a straw. temporarily a soda bottle cap will work, but look into getting a valve for it, it'll make your life easier. i'm not a plumber btw, just have lots of experience with pond pumps, pool pumps, aquariums, and irrigation for gardens. to the haters that are making fun of him for making these mistakes, just be glad nobody was filming when YOU made that mistake back when you were first learning (because you know you did). you're doing good kid, keep it up.

Remove the fitting that is leaking put water tape around the threads and tighten the fitting until it doesnt leak. Please look for some teflon tape tutorial or let someone show you in shop how to use it properly. Those types of pumps work with suction and they need really airtight connections to work properly and not constantly lose priming. You do not need excessive force to make connections seal properly. You can crack them easily with force. Just use proper seals/ sealing surfaces or tape BETWEEN brass threads and enough force for tight connections. You need pretty thick layer and need to tie it in proper direction for seal to be good.
@KK-xz4rk3 ай бұрын
Those pumps use centrifugal force to pump. There is a metal fan inside and when it spins it will force water to spin and expell into pipe. Water leaving fan area creates suction. Problem is that if the fan is not in water there is no centrifugal force to create suction. So all pipe from water source to pump must be air free. Any bigger air bubble or leak in suction part can cause this pump to stall. Biggest problem comes with winter. You need to get all water out of this pump system before freezing or it will ruin it. Or you need to keep this pump system constantly above freezing temperature. Thats hard without constant electric heating and well insulated pump house. There is a plug in lower part of the bottom of the pump that is used to get the water out from system before freezing.
@Off-Grid-Island3 ай бұрын
Thank you, going to figure out how to do it right! Going to drain the pump before freezing temps, didn't know how to drain it, appreciate the help.
@KK-xz4rk3 ай бұрын
@@Off-Grid-Island For your usage this pump system seems too powerful and complicated. This pump is good for providing constant water pressure for whole house and lots of supplies. But it keeps all system always full of water. For your use maybe better would be some small pond/well pump that is in the bottom of a line submerged in water. It is good because it will keep pump warm in light freezes. When you do not use bottom valve water will automatically drain down the hill back to lake if pump is off. Downside is that you must wait for water to rise up again if pump starts working and there is no constant pressure. If pump is off there is no water. When you arrive just take pump with flexible hose from dry storage, toss it in water and you have water if needed. When you leave island roll up the hose with pump and toss it in shed. Easy.
