For me, I was constantly cheering and working for romanticism to win, but in the end had to yield to reality. thanks for your openness barrett. it is ok to feel sad, devastated, confused. I had such a special connection to a guy when I visited paris for a week for the first time. I was so happy. I absolutely wanted to continue the contact. BUT all these uncontrollable feelings took over when I was home again and I quit the contact. I was devastated. there were a lot of feelings "not deserving it to be so happy", "being afraid", "being in the old environment with my dad". and I guess the conflict between romanticism and reality.

Breakups are so so difficult but they also give us an opportunity to tune into ourselves and uncover blocks and imrpove our relationship with oursevles. At the end of the day - we are all we have so through self love and appreciation we know that we can get through it. As hard as it may be - continue to stay strong and practice self love and know you're special. You can get through it :) x

Breaking up.... It's never easy. Especially when u don't have an excuse to blame on. I wish u could talk this through. And if he is willing to go on this journey with you and commit to a real relationship then it's good. But if u feel that he's holding u back.... And not exactly committed or just like the idea of you being around and not really being around you. Then..... The only thing to do is to decide for yourself to let time heal it all. Life is always evolving, and we always wanted something and then sometimes it just wasn't what it is. I think being gay, having that "wanted to be free" culture, and "yet wanting a committed relationship" conflict is always there. But for me, I like "traditional committed relationship", it shows strength. And if that means I'll never find it... Then so be it. I like cuddling, but if the other person ain't someone I love n love me then I rather cuddle my dog. Life experience is what I after. Not habit.

EVERY relationship is about improving yourself. Many assume that relationships are about living your life for someone else. This is actually a wrong way to approach a relationship. Helping contribute to your partners overall happiness is obviously a goal, but true happiness is found within yourself. You can't find it from another guy, no matter how good they are. That being said: while indeed breakups are hard, as long as you can look back on it and realize that you at least grew as a person, then it wasn't a waste of your time.

I feel like most people don't understand what love its since they probably never experienced a healthy version of it. Barrett Don't give up. I felt in love with a great friend, one that we shared many great tv nights, hobbies, and deep conversation with. He knows how intensely I adore him. And that becomes the barrier of us continuing to be friends. I have no regrets tho. I rather he remembers once upon a time a friend love him intensely then said nothing at all. I rather he remembers someone cared for him such then leaving him free falling. I need to move on too. and it hasn't been easy.

Any relationship should be a give and take between the two partners. You must be really clear of what you really want and need from someone else. Physical attraction is most often what brings us together in the first place, but a relationship is so,so much more. You must both have a capacity to compromise. In my opinion, you can't make Love happen. It's something that will come naturally, as will closeness and emotional intimacy. It's something that you can't force. Either it happens or it doesn't. For me personally the best relationship is a real friendship, where one is there for the other- NO matter what. It has to be unconditional. But you really only see the real character of someone, if you're in need- not when everything goes smoothly. Character, personality and empathy are the best guiding posts whenever you look for a serious relationship. That's what I have learned in my life.

Hi Barrett. I do hope that the 2+ years later when I am writing has let time make life beautiful for you again. With your intensive good looks your problem will be having too many people throw themselves at you. Too many can cause as many problems as not enough. The best thing I did was just stop. Intense self analysis and being so focused on self is just so unhealthy in my opinion. I had 6 months therapy and therapist said 'there is a huge box over there locked and wrapped in 100 chains, we can continue, take another 6 months OR we can stop for now, as day to day you are coping.' I am terribly sorry to be judgemental but I may be wrong, but didn't this exact same thing happen in a previous r/ship. I seem to remember you stated 'you were kinda all in, the other person wasn't as much.' Perhaps just take the focus of 'you' so, so much? I've had several partners with these same characteristics. So, so hard to be their boyfriend.
