The Volvo 240 AND 740 get love in this instalment. On the 745 I "Service" the noisy blower motor/heater fan, fix an exhaust heat shield rattle, replace the automatic shift mechanism bushes, re glue the glovebox lid trim and fit a snazzy new (but old style) lace up steering wheel cover. The 244 gets new original 52mm gauges, I rig up the oil pressure sensor and gauge and install a new "big" tachometer into the instrument cluster. Finishing off with a spot of Owatrol's "Polytrol Colour restorer" on the rear lights, bumper and trim. Oh and a quick mention about Calcium batteries in older cars.

@@Involvod I am wondering about the possibility of carefully drilling through the stamped motor casing at the other end of the shaft, spraying a bit of grease in there and sealing the hole with RTV or tape. Obviously not necessary in this instance, as that bearing was not noisy on your motor.

Wow, I wish the blower motor on my 142 was quite that easy :D Interesting that they used the extremely common GM/Delco motor, that model was used for decades and in every product line from the mid 1960s probably through the early 1990s (The mount flange would change to plastic at some point)

@@Involvod They are a fairly robust part so long as the ventilation for the brushes/commutator isn't admitting water or abrasive. It is a fairly high current draw blower which is why it is an unsealed unit, you need the armature cooling. (the downside of how powerful it is . . . it is often wired just on the edge of what is should be. It isn't too uncommon to find wiring/fuses blocks that look like they have had high current degradation) The choice of that blower will mean they'll be available new and used for years to come, much like the ubiquitous Delco 10/15si alternator which has been fully cloned.
@Schwedenstahl245

Volvo actually made an adapter to connect the standard oil pressure warning light to an aftermarket oil pressure sender. I don't have the part number for it, but it's a male bullet to a female spade connector (if I recall correctly). Also, for routing the yellow gauge wire (or whatever color you choose), I recommend instead of going underneath the crank gear to along side the right front inner fender, underneath the coolant overflow, underneath the strut tower to along the firewall. This will keep the wire clear of road debris and oil / heat from the engine. Last, you can still buy the clear tail light reverse lenses separately and replace just them (vs. replacing the entire tail light).

Great episode! Love all the tips and tricks. Not sure I know what the lens restorer is but they do look great. Love the gauges and I think I'll have to glue my glove box as it's starting to do what yours did. Next tips and tricks, might show how to reach up and grab that blue box under the dash on driver's side that acts as the very annoying "chime" and throw it in the lake/pond/canal/ etc..That is literally one of the Very first things I do as that thing makes me crazy. How can you hear either of the fuel pumps when that stupid thing is dinging all the time? Thanks buddy. Another wonderful video.
