Weird. From the match display I would not think his setup has extreme spin reversal. Otherwise consecutive pushes would have jumped up much more than they did now. Now, pips it was, and I'm not sure you understand how the (moderate) spin reversal actually works: 0:17 you serve backspin, he pushes with the pips, which makes the ball come back with topspin, you loop vertically, which is normally what you do against a push but not in this case: you need to counter topspin with a closed bat; obviously the ball goes out; but next you repeat the stroke with shadow motion as if your loop against backspin was badly executed. That was not the point. The basic approach against a pips player is to alternate your strokes: push, topspin, push, topspin ... unless of course he hits with the inverted side, then it's back to normal. Another thing to avoid is sidespin, because the ball will come back with sidespin too but opposite to the usual sidespin on such a return, which messes with your intuition even more. My strategy against pips is pretty simple: I serve long backspin into the pips (their backhand mostly) or into the middle (where they typically move into with the pips) and then aggressively topspin the return. Likewise I return their backspin serves (as he does) with a push into the pips and then same thing. Or when they serve with the pips, I flick or topspin regardless of their motion, since pips don't impart spin. This game exposed your lack of mobility more than any other previous game. You often got jammed in the middle, and when the ball went outside your striking zone, you stretched out your arm rather than moving into position, resulting in an unstable stroke. I think it'll be some time before you can comfortably deal with such a pips player. Controlled strokes, insight in spin reversal and mobility need development. Cheers!

This was a good call out, and yeah, on that particular one I did misread it pretty badly. I need to play this guy a lot more so I can naturally hit it much more. I usually get more comfortable at about game-ish three against pips, but I gotta pay more attention!
