Interesting fact: cats’ claws are curved so they can climb up easily, but have trouble climbing down. 🐈

I had a cat up a telephone pole years ago, luckily the fire department came to the rescue. Good for you and your friends caring so much 🤗🤗

There was a cat up a rather tall (at least a 2 storey+ attic house) oak tree in our local park a few yrs back and about 10 different people called the fire brigade and were all told 'it will come down by itself.' It took somebody to phone into the local 'shouty journalist's' radio show for the fire brigade to (grudgingly, I heard them complaining whilst setting up) come out. Turned out poor thing was pretty dehydrated (hadn't rained at all for about 2 weeks so no clue if he got water whilst he was up there) had been missing a week and had limited coordination due to being blind in one eye so no wonder he got stuck. We couldn't get a tree surgeon out with a 'cherry picker' as the park was council property and they not only showed no interest in helping nor would they let a tree surgeon in the gates when one turned up of their own volition and 5 different builders and roofers tried to get up with ladders but no luck so if it wasn't for somebody phoning into the journalist's radio show complaining about the fire brigade not doing one thing to help the local community (plus said tree happened to be right next to the kid's playground so the kids in it were hearing the cat meow and were getting upset that he couldn't get down) and the journalist very much agreeing the fire brigade wouldn't have turned up to save their face and the poor thing would still be up there. It caused a bit of a stir on the local nextdoor page so the owners found out (one of the guys who had been up ladders gave a description, including the partial blindness which aided in identification) and turned up just as the cat was brought down so happy ending there, but my mother still holds a grudge against the local fire station for their rudeness about the situation and the council for not caring.

Fire Department philosophy is, "you never find cat skeletons in trees. They will eventually come down." And, I say that as a retired dispatcher. That being said, the department I worked for broke protocol one time and did send a firefighter up the tree to get a cat that had been there a couple of days... and the cat scratched the hell out of him. Fortunately, it didn't bite him or he would have had to possibly get the rabies shots -- cat put down - all the bad things. So, protocol is, no cat rescues from trees. From burning buildings, yes. Additionally, short story. We had just parked in our driveway and gotten out of the car when we heard my roommate's cat meowing. Loudly. Momentarily flummoxed - not seeing the cat anywhere. Meowing from above us, but not in the tall dead tree in the yard but in the very tall freakin' palm tree in the side yard. (Not the tall skinny type - robust enough not to sway in the wind.) He was up in the cut fronds part. As we were going, "what are you doing up there?", he turned around, shimmied about 10 feet, turned face down and RAN DOWN THE SIDE OF THE TRUNK. Made a running four-point landing. Unhurt.

I can assure you cats will NOT come down eventually. There was one stuck up a 30ft tree in our local part for I think nearly a week a few yrs ago and the fire department only grudgingly came out after somebody phoned into the local 'shouty journalist's' radio shoew complaining about a rude dispatcher so it was clearly to save FD's face. The park was council property and council not only refused to help but refused a tree surgeon entry when one heard and turned up so FD was the only option (and 5 builders and roofers had tried with ladders prior to FD being called) or else the poor thing would have been a skeleton up that tree. Poor thing was severly dehydrated as it hadn't rained for nearly 2 weeks by that point so the cat hadn't had any water. Owners posted on the local nextdoor page that the vet said the cat would have been dead if he'd been up there another 24hrs so whomever came up with that seemingly universal (as I'm in the UK) 'protocol' was clearly a cat hater or an idiot.

I rehomed my cat because she was triggered by me. Every time I made a sound or moved at all or did anything she would scream...not meow. Worse is she had taken up screaming 24/7 even though there is nothing wrong with her. She is old, but healthy. After eleven years of this, I had enough and found her a loving home with a family who spoils her rotten and doesn't mind the noise.
