I gotta get that Butt tool. I like slide lighting. It makes those imperfections pop. Something I didn’t see or hear you say about side lighting, is which side to apply the light. I’ve found whenever possible put the light on side the natural or room light is going to hit the wall, which ever is going to be the strongest light source for the wall. If there is a window on the right side of the joint, put your light on the right side of the joint that way you’ll always be applying the mud to the areas most likely to cast shadows so you can work those areas out over a long slope.

Hi Guy, after having been involved in the drywall industry over the last 40 years (amongst many other things) I recognize a real pro when I see one. Great job with your instructional videos! One thing I have never figured out is how to keep from clogging up my shop vac with drywall dust. I use a vacuum sanding block on the end of an extension pole in order to keep the dust down. Sometimes, when I take the shop vac filter out to clean it comes out looking solid between the filter pleats. I also end up with a huge cloud of drywall dust surrounding me when I use my shop air (outside of course) to blow it off. What are your thoughts on how to control the dust a little better? One idea I had was to get a newer shop vac where I can use one of those dust bags that you insert into the shop vac. Have you had any luck with this method?
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the email and comment. Well my health hasn’t really improved much as I’m still fighting extreme fatigue that limits me to three or four hours of work a day. But I’m doing the best I can. As for the dust control, I have a much better solution for you. Check out the video below. This pretty much eliminates 95% of clogging in your vacuum. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIPUdGqJr8assK8 www.ThatKiltedGuy.com

As always awesome presentation !!! Quick question I repaired the ceiling at my parents Dining room. I was a bit press for time since they live far away. I used 90 sheet rock mud. It came out pretty good( I was showing off my improved skills thanks to you) so I decided to skip a final coat with Plus3. When it was time to paint I noticed 2 spots that bubbled. What went wrong? Was it the paint reacting to the mud. ( I used Sherman Williams ceiling/primer paint) or was it because I didn't use a finishing mud like Plus3? Thanks again.
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY 2 жыл бұрын
If it was a bubble in the mud, they just happen and you just have to fix them right before you paint. But no you don’t have to put regular mud on is the final coat. If the paint bubbled, you probably didn’t let it dry long enough. Usually it needs 24 to 48 hours

Great Butt joint. Ahh, but sanding. Years ago I was shown how to use a damp sponge to smooth out my work instead of sanding. I have been sponging ever since. Now I'm not a pro drywaller like you, I'm a home remolder. I am curious on your thoughts on sponging.
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Sponging softens out the edges but it doesn’t flatten things like sanding does. I wish it did but the only thing I use it on is the outside edge if it’s really thin already to make it even thinner

Absolutely awesome. Great presentation. I'm planning on using my Level 5 tools (that I just got) next week on my own house. Just have to get off the horrendous existing texture first! Someone scraped the acoustic/popcorn and then did some sort of super thick spray texture with no knock-down, not at all symmetrical, then painted over it. I might need to skim coat the entire house ceiling. Ugh. First up though is using the Level 5 tools at a job site in an easier application this week.

Hey TKG, I also was in the the biz for over 30 yrs, but mainly doing repairs & a lot in occupied items. The one thing I hated was sanding! I don't remember where I discovered this, but early on, I found a damp, natural sponge saved me a lot sanding headaches. The man-made sponges are normally too stiff, the natural are much softer. I was curious to what your view was?
