absolutely, its also been a song I've listened to a lot recently as I've struggled with feelings for a close friend of mine, and whether or not i should say something in fear of losing her as even though she likes women she's never shown any sign of feeling that way towards me. (sorry for the vent, but I feel this is a place she wouldn't see it and people who may understand or be in similar situations will)

my personal favorite dodie song is “if i’m being honest”, i think it’s one of her best and you should 100% listen to it. two of her newer songs are “boys like you” and “guiltless” which have a different vibe from her old stuff like “would you be so kind” and “absolutely smitten” which will leave you with a really happy feeling in your heart!! also “ready now” is a great song which is sorta another take on the situation that inspired sick of losing soulmates and is pretty happy. also “you” is such a slept on song even though it’s the title track of one of her eps and YOU should listen to it!! there’s a really fun song about a threesome called “in the middle” and some more sadder songs are “human”, “intertwined” (gah, i love her lyricism in this one), and “burned out”. here’s hoping you see this comment and react to all of these in the future bc i can totally see you loving them!!!! :)

She is about dodie being in love with a straight girl. She is a bi queen. It was the first WLW (women love women) media I ever came across. Her first version of this song was posted like back in 2015. I heard it in probably 2017. Dodie literally saved my life and brought me out of a bad numbness. I have her book and she included some journal entries from when she was younger. I searched for one word. "She" this is so I can get it tattooed on my left wrist.

oh i felt this - i was around 10 or 11 (aka around 2015 or 2016) when i first heard she and oh wow did it hit me HARD. music is wild to me because i connect a lot of my personal emotions and experiences to what i listen to, and to an even higher degree when i find a song that accurately speaks to how i’m feeling in that moment. so listening to certain songs reminds me of the place i was emotionally at the time where i discovered that song... she is one of them. hearing she reminds me of where i was at that age, and how i was discovering myself and my own identity (including but also extending outside of sexuality). it hurts even more because i have old recordings of me singing she (and although they make me cringe because w o w i was off-key) it’s so painfully wholesome to see how far i’ve come. idk i just wanted to say that. also spoiler alert i thought i was pan bc i was like “yeah i feel equally attracted to all people idk i don’t really care” but GUESS WHAT i’m aroace and i was just very led astray bc im cupioromantic with a preference for girls so y e a h turns out i’m not technically wlw at all

being a fan of dodie for 3 years, I've become kind of numb to how much these songs hurt the first time listening. like i vibe to she without even thinking about it. I think I appreciated watching someone discovering dodie more than I could dream of. it was like rediscovering her myself. I'm all of a sudden brought back to the first time I sobbed for an hour listening to "when" realizing I'm not alone. I just cried again listening to she. please do a part 2 for dodie. I think I need it for myself🖤🖤
@gwinnellheald85924 жыл бұрын
'when' hits so hard for me because it shifted meaning for me. It came out when I was 15 so the line "I'll never be sixteen again'" made me look forward to the fun times id have at 16. When I was 16 it was a reminder to enjoy it while it lasts. Now I'm 18 and it reminds me to try not to dwell on the past. It's definitely my favorite Dodie song. Helped me through a lot 💚 she really is amazing

My personal experience with 6/10- I’ve been a fan of Dodie since 2015. Her songs always spoke to me and they got me through all of the difficult times in high school. Her description of anxiety and depression, what she was going through when she wrote 6/10, hit me so hard. When she first talked about it on youtube, she asked for fans to submit their own recordings of the lines: “Oh I’ll just call a taxi, I’ve gotta get up early tomorrow again” and “I know that you don’t want me here” I submitted my recordings, and forgot about it. Flash forward to my second year of college. I was living in my first apartment, struggling with severe depression, frequent panic attacks, anxiety disorders, and trying to maintain the perfect grades I’d gotten in high school so I wouldn’t let anyone down. STRESSED. I had pre-ordered Dodie’s new album and finally I got to play 6/10. And..... I heard myself, singing along with her, and tons of other voices. All people in pain, all people like me. Needless to say, I broke down a bit. That song means so much to me. I’m now a college graduate, and this past September I got to see Dodie in concert! I cried a lot, and when 6/10 started, the audience held up cards that read “10/10”. Lots of tears! I have that card on my wall now. ❤️

I remember standing in the crowd of the Dodie concert I went to and just sobbing while my best friend held me when Secrets for the Mad came out, not because I was in the middle of it but because I knew I had finally gotten out, to where things were finally really making sense again. For so long i didn’t think I would make it to the point where I could say things made sense and where I wasn’t hurting every day, but in that moment I really felt that I had done it. And I looked around and everyone else was crying too because we had all made it. It was freeing and beautiful and one of the best nights of my life.

Fun facts about the songs you listened to: -dodie gave the first sneak peak of Monster at one of her concerts and she explained to her audience how this was about that moment in an argument at the end of a relationship where you can literally start to see the person’s hate for you grow and you can see their perception of you completely change in their eyes. -I believe She was about her first experience falling in love with a girl and it was while she was a teen in school. -in 6/10, when the other people start harmonizing, those are actually her fans who she had submit their voices singing those lines over and over and she had them mixed with hers. -Secret for the Mad was written for a friend who reached out to her for help and was feeling very depressed and suicidal and dodie explains how she started thinking of all the stereotypes people tell you to try and calm yourself down from one of those episodes (open up a window, drink water, breathe in and out, etc.) and that’s where specifically the “little things, all the stereotypes, they’re gonna help you get through this one night” line comes from -Sick if Losing Soulmates was written about the struggles of remaining friends with someone after the relationship ends due to all the history there.

Dodie's songs really helped me come to terms with my sexuality and my mental health, especially since I wasn't getting much support from my peers or family. Also, if you want fun Dodie songs, Would you be so kind, Absolutely Smitten, and In the middle are some really good ones.

I have seen dodie twice in concert and HONESTLY you saying she like held you felt like the concert. During "Secrets for the Mad" I was sobbing my eyes out and I was truly a wreck and girl in front of me who I never meet just hugged me for the whole song. I felt so loved then. Her music is so important to me, when I found it and even now. And songs have beautiful associations with them for me now, like "She" is me and my best friends song because of how important it is to us. I will never listen to that song and not think about her. Some upbeat songs are a lot of her first ep "Intertwined" and a song called "Ready Now" but I would recommend just all of her songs. I love her so much!!!
