She is about dodie being in love with a straight girl. She is a bi queen. It was the first WLW (women love women) media I ever came across. Her first version of this song was posted like back in 2015. I heard it in probably 2017. Dodie literally saved my life and brought me out of a bad numbness. I have her book and she included some journal entries from when she was younger. I searched for one word. "She" this is so I can get it tattooed on my left wrist.

oh i felt this - i was around 10 or 11 (aka around 2015 or 2016) when i first heard she and oh wow did it hit me HARD. music is wild to me because i connect a lot of my personal emotions and experiences to what i listen to, and to an even higher degree when i find a song that accurately speaks to how i’m feeling in that moment. so listening to certain songs reminds me of the place i was emotionally at the time where i discovered that song... she is one of them. hearing she reminds me of where i was at that age, and how i was discovering myself and my own identity (including but also extending outside of sexuality). it hurts even more because i have old recordings of me singing she (and although they make me cringe because w o w i was off-key) it’s so painfully wholesome to see how far i’ve come. idk i just wanted to say that. also spoiler alert i thought i was pan bc i was like “yeah i feel equally attracted to all people idk i don’t really care” but GUESS WHAT i’m aroace and i was just very led astray bc im cupioromantic with a preference for girls so y e a h turns out i’m not technically wlw at all

My personal experience with 6/10- I’ve been a fan of Dodie since 2015. Her songs always spoke to me and they got me through all of the difficult times in high school. Her description of anxiety and depression, what she was going through when she wrote 6/10, hit me so hard. When she first talked about it on youtube, she asked for fans to submit their own recordings of the lines: “Oh I’ll just call a taxi, I’ve gotta get up early tomorrow again” and “I know that you don’t want me here” I submitted my recordings, and forgot about it. Flash forward to my second year of college. I was living in my first apartment, struggling with severe depression, frequent panic attacks, anxiety disorders, and trying to maintain the perfect grades I’d gotten in high school so I wouldn’t let anyone down. STRESSED. I had pre-ordered Dodie’s new album and finally I got to play 6/10. And..... I heard myself, singing along with her, and tons of other voices. All people in pain, all people like me. Needless to say, I broke down a bit. That song means so much to me. I’m now a college graduate, and this past September I got to see Dodie in concert! I cried a lot, and when 6/10 started, the audience held up cards that read “10/10”. Lots of tears! I have that card on my wall now. ❤️

I’ve met dodie twice and she’s such a sweetheart honestly, I remember the first time me and some friends weren’t sure if we were supposed to queue (this was at a con) and we were looking over at her booth trying to figure it out and me and dodie made eye contact, she smiled and I looked away super nervous bc useless lesbian here but she came to the edge and asked if we needed help so we asked and she told us, then when we actually properly met her she remembered us and was just super sweet!! Dodie is such a great example of youtubers who make music rather than youtubers who make youtuber music you know what I mean? (Also I bought a shirt with a quote from She on it that first time we met & it’s still one of my faves like 4 or 5 years later) Edit: the backstreet boys reunion tour omg you’re a gg fan 😳😳 icon !!

I remember standing in the crowd of the Dodie concert I went to and just sobbing while my best friend held me when Secrets for the Mad came out, not because I was in the middle of it but because I knew I had finally gotten out, to where things were finally really making sense again. For so long i didn’t think I would make it to the point where I could say things made sense and where I wasn’t hurting every day, but in that moment I really felt that I had done it. And I looked around and everyone else was crying too because we had all made it. It was freeing and beautiful and one of the best nights of my life.

For Monster and him cutting off his horn... I always took it as him kind of seeing in himself that, while the break up wasnt his fault entirely, maybe he needed to change himself to get to that happiness I wants. Like in the beginning he seemed a little disheveled and kind of the typical "lazy" (for lack of a better word) kind of style. Then after a few dates and reflection on himself he realizes that he needs to work on himself and make himself happy again. Then after he does that you can see a positive effect on his emotions and hes out with friends and he gives himself the confidence to, when he sees that she has moved on, that he could take back his own heart and be complete again.

the way you interpreted "She" is... exactly how i took it, and applied it to myself. she, for me, hasn't talked to me in a while, and i worry for her most days, so listening to that for the first time in a while had a little twinge of loss. but i'm so glad to have heard it. thanks for this one, bill.

After seeing Bill in tears after listening to a song, I sometimes wonder why I don't have the same deep emotional reaction. It sort of annoys me that I don't feel so overwhelmed and in love with a song as much as him. I'm 19 years and 5 months wondering if already my sensitivity have sort of been lost so quickly :/
@apollinelrx9018
@apollinelrx9018 4 жыл бұрын
We all have very different ways to deal with emotions, and ways to feel emotions. Some people are more empathic than others, feeling other people's emotions very easily, or are very in tune with a medium like music, which is the case for Bill. The fact that you don't feel as emotional as him in front of a song doesnt mean you dont have any sensibility, just that your sensibility is not triggered by music. Maybe you cry in front of movies, or video games, or books or maybe not. Maybe your sensibility is triggered by something you havent discovered yet.
@morganrad1902

@Anna Rose I can completely relate to that. There's been times I felt like I didn't have emotions for anything. My best friend cries over basically everything and I'm just here.... not feeling much at all
@annarose932

@@apollinelrx9018 I have cried a lot during sad movies, but I guess seeing Bill cry so much I sort of wish (as akward as it is) I could be as emotionally invested, as maybe because I am more critical of stuff and I am not as emotional as I was when I was at Primary school.
@embaggins
@embaggins 4 жыл бұрын
@@annarose932 i think if you relate to the words in the songs, it can bring out more emotion. personally i don't cry whilst listening to dodie's songs, and that doesn't mean there's anything wrong, nor does it mean i don't understand her message. it just means that we lead different lives, and are different people. there's nothing wrong with not being emotional about this in the slightest. everyone processes things differently, and this isn't something you need to compare yourself against. "comparison is the thief of joy."
@aw9005
@aw9005 4 жыл бұрын
Some people relate well to other peoples words and stories. I rarely cry at things in lyric but when I used to listen to piano more I would cry at the sad songs. It made me feel a lot more, got me inside my own thought and emotion instead of into someone elses. Maybe it makes me less empathetic or maybe I just can't focus on feeling when I'm listening to words and trying to interpret.
