Hello Raymond, I am following your videos, because I just purchased a 21ft Viking deck boat for $250 in almost the exact same condition, so I will doing everything that you're doing, in the same order, looking forward to the next one and the whole series of videos they are very helpful thanks, Skypilotken

Good luck with your project. I'm hoping to get the motor started in the next video and then move to the interior and get started. I have a feeling it's going to be a long road, but hopefully a fun challenge. Thanks for watching.

Those 2 strokes are hard to kill. If it needed a new power head it would be WAY cheaper than a new 4 stroke.

Those engines are bulletproof, low compression from factory so your number are perfect. Check that the carb bowls did not warp they are plastic and notorious for warping, if they are sand them on glass with fine paper to flush. Don’t listen to anyone who says get rid of the VRO and premix if it has a VRO2 system on it when they fail they over oil, if the VRO is bad then consider it cause an OEM one runs $600+. Common fuel leaks are at the fuel enrichment Schrader valve (choke) when you press in the key. There is a cone screen fuel filter in theVST you can clean it and replace but make sure collar is not cracked, make sure VST top is not warped as well. Plastic fuel components on these did not play nice with ethanol fuel so avoid it if possible.

Wow, thanks for all those great things to watch for and check. I'm cleaning and testing the oil injection system now. Going to try to get it started in the next video with that and a portable premixed tank to see if it's going to run. Then start tracing backwards to the existing tank and lines to see what needs to be replaced. Most of it is probably dry rotted too, since it hasn't been used in forever. Thanks again for the tips and watching!!

@@RaymondLamb no worries dude, for the oil system purge it as much as you can with the primer bulb, run aux premix tank till can confirm oil consumption. Don’t squeeze the oil primer once hooked to the VRO it can tear the diaphragm on VRO. Dying to hear it started probably one of my favorite outboards ever made. For sure the best Johnson ever made lol.

please pleaes please don't over tighten the carburetor screws. They're made from minlon and THEY'LL WARP if you do that. Use torque specs in service manual.

@emitowww thanks so much for that tip! I'm about to get back on this project if the weather will cooperate. Thanks for watching!
