@@imelimadame9244 @Imeli Madame :D Yeah, that's actually a fair reason to challenge someone to a duel. As a kid, I despised runny egg yolks, so my mother always made scrambled eggs. I just always assumed that's how it's done. (Bonus feature: you end up with only smashable components which allows a very mixable, porridge-like consistency. Excactly what you want as a kid :)). As a more sophisticated grown up, I now also prefer my eggs sunny side up and veryyyy runny (and am able to keep the spinache, eggs and potatoes seperated for a bit longer than before). So the scrambled eggs are no longer a hill I am willing to die on. ;) I originally grew up around Hannover. Sending my best regards to Hamburg. Cheers!

In Trinidad and Tobago ours is definately Stewed Chicken soup with a dhal base. You put a little bit of oil in a pot and add some sugar, when it turns to a sort of dark caramel color but not burnt, you add in your seasoned chicken and peeled and cut up veges like carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams and what we call eddoes along with some chopped onion and garlic. Mix till all is coated and let it fry up for a few minutes then add water to cover and add the cooked dhal which is basically boiling split peas in water and pureeing with a hand blender. Cook until everything is fully cooked and add more water if you have to. Closer to the end add macaroni and dumplings which are flour and salt kneeded with water until a stiff dough forms. You can add finely grated carrots if you wish. Add your salt and pepper to taste and add a little bit of Golden Ray or butter (if you can find golden ray that takes it over the top) and add a little touch of dark soy sauce. I hope you see this and make it! You'll love it! Trini Cooking with Natasha, Taste of Trini and Foodie Nation should have similar recipes but not sure if they used dhal as the base though. Love you Beryl!

You wouldn't traditionally pan-fry the chicken for Hühnerfrikasse. Why always chop it up and cook it in the sauce.
@MrsTenshi953 жыл бұрын
There are different versions of Hühnerfrikace I guess, my family came from eastern Germany and our recipe sounds nothing like the one you have cooked but yours looked great too♡
@lisasimpson37623 жыл бұрын
I thought just the same thing! It is a typical dish you make from leftover chicken. You pick the bits and pieces from the bones and throw them into the sauce. Also, for me, it has to have asparagus and green peas in it, but the vegetables used probably differ depending on the area you live in.

Yess, Hühnerfrikassee is definitely a cozy rainy day food for me too. My parents would often make this on Sundays in the winter. The way we made it was to boil a whole chicken with some veggies to make a soup out of the broth, and then take the cooked meat to make the frikassee. So the meat gets picked off the bones and cut/scrambled into pieces and cooked in the sauce for a while, and we would eat it with a side of rice. I dont know if it is that common to pair it with rice, but that's how my family did it. Another crucial ingredient for us is the white asparagus, and we would always use the canned asparagus for this dish. I love the way my family made this dish, because you would first get a nice hot bowl of chicken soup, and then the Hühnerfrikassee as the main dish. Perfect for a rainy cold day in Germany😊

super cool to see a dish from Puerto Rico! 🇵🇷 I feel like there are many variations of this across Latin America & as Beryl said, it’s amazing to see how much people across the world have in common. I’m also Puerto Rican and my family has also made this with other white/sharp cheeses - you can use Gouda, Oaxacan cheese, queso blanco, and so on. Depending on what’s available/people’s preference, we may also swap coffee for hot cocoa and regular cookies (especially Maria, iykyk!) for saltines. And again, it changes person to person, some people prefer to dip the cheese/cookie/crackers and others prefer to mix everything in and scoop it out. also, perfect video for today as it is, in fact, cold & rainy. 😂

Interesting variation of the Huehnerfrikassee! As a german I make it this way: chickenbreast chunks, capers, mushrooms, white asparagus, white wine, worcestershire sauce, pepper and salt, lemon juice and that is the the way to make it and serve it with rice. I have never seen anyone cook your variation of it. Frikassee is always a stew and not a sauce or gravy over meat.

I’m Puerto Rican and I grew up and love this way of having hot chocolate. One hint is to not put your crackers into your cup until you are about to start eating. It’s more of a crumble as you go situation. Also, you can opt out of the cracker into the cup method and just butter your crackers and dunk as you eat ( which is how I grew up eating them) as for the cheese well queso de papa is similar to mild cheddar but isn’t exactly mild cheddar. It’s best just to get the queso de papa. A tastier substitute is Gouda cheese which is very common in Puerto Rico enjoy

The ingredients reminded me of chicken pot pie so I'm glad she made the connection. Everything is the same except the pastry and cutting the protein down into bite size before baking. The only difference is who have to reduce it a lot more until it's thick enough to hold together and bake with the pie dough. Huhnerfrikasse looks simple but delicious and comforting, I would definitely love to try the different German variations!
@19sunheart963 жыл бұрын
I'm German and have never eaten Hühnerfrikasse😂 only Hühnersuppe
@@Strawberrihead It's usually eaten with rice or some other starch. Dishes around a sauce based on butter and flour (effectively forming a roux but the process is a bit different) are pretty common in Germany as well as Switzerland and Austria. France has a bit of a different methodology, but you find very similar concepts. My grandma used to cook a whole chicken for a broth, then breaking down the meat to put into the dish. So she'd use an entire bird for a soup and main course. Today it's obviously too much trouble to do it that way, and the meat does get pretty tough. But many cook books offer variations of Hühnerfrikassee. As mentioned in the video, just about any white meat may be used and anywhere from all the vegetables to none may be in the sauce. With a very good stock you may end up with a rather pricy dish that's more or less meat in a sauce and still have a very deep and rounded flavor.
