The Hebrew Bible, also known as the Tanakh, is the canonical collection of Jewish texts. It contains 24 books. These are divided into three main sections: 1. Torah (The Law) - 5 books Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers Deuteronomy 2. Nevi'im (The Prophets) - 8 books Joshua Judges Samuel (1 & 2 Samuel as one book) Kings (1 & 2 Kings as one book) Isaiah Jeremiah Ezekiel The Twelve Minor Prophets (treated as one book) 3. Ketuvim (The Writings) - 11 books Psalms Proverbs Job Song of Songs Ruth Lamentations Ecclesiastes Esther Daniel Ezra-Nehemiah (treated as one book) Chronicles (1 & 2 Chronicles as one book) While the Tanakh is composed of 24 books, the content corresponds closely to the 39 books of the Protestant Old Testament, due to differences in the way the books are divided and grouped.
