At 75,000 miles, I just had new front struts installed on my 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk. They found one of the CV joint boots had a cut in it and water had gotten in. It cost an extra $362 for the new CV/axle assembly. I use the tow package often and like having off-road suspension. I like is knowing I can kick in the locking rear axle and crawl over stuff if there's a disaster. Great vehicle so far: comfortable, capable, and reliable. Almost 8 years and counting...

We had to have the driver's side CV axle replaced on our 2020 Cherokee TH for exactly the same reason. Torn boot. Thank goodness it was still under warranty as the Jeep only had about 13000 miles on it at the time of replacement. To top it off, Jeep didn't have the part and it took us 45 days to finally get it replaced.

I was just about worried when you didn’t have the right Shaft in just before the your K9 supervisor came by to clear up the issue. Big difference in shafts from standard to Trailhawk. $900 is steep…. This is definitely the best lesson to ALWAYS inspect your boots after heading off-road, and have a repair kit and some grease on hand. Seriously great video.

Purchased 2015 Trail Hawk new. I have 121362 miles. I do all my own maintenance. Inspect everything after 4-wheeling always. Replaced original tires once with same type and brand. Replaced all brakes with Red Calipers, top end slotted discs and high-performance brake pads once. I have regularly pulled a 14ft trailer, off road regular in snow and sand frequently. I still have original start/stop battery works fine. CV axels are fine (they are very tough) can't understand how your customer cut the boot in the first place. With all that said however here is my big issue with Jeep. The 2014 and 2015 9 speed transmissions have been an issue from day one. I have always had it serviced per warrantee notice, but these have been software upgrades only. They would never replace the transmission. Now just today it starts to crap out. I can only shift manually. I cannot even locate a rebuilt or new transmission anywhere on the planet. Dealer has no idea when or if they will ever get these in again. Any suggestions?
@Tomsfoolery.10 ай бұрын
My suggestion would be to get rid of it. I’m not a fan of them for many reasons. I’ve had two in the shop that were having intermittent transmission issues but no codes were present when scanned. The owners said the jeeps didn’t want to shift and a “service transmission” warning temporarily showed up on the dash. The vehicles were driving fine when I looked at them. I can only speculate they were having intermittent electrical issues.

It's a wear item, it's going to go south eventually no matter what you do. The issue here is that since Fiat bought Jeep they have been trying to turn the line into a SUV which in NOT what a Jeep is. It's a off-road vehicle that's capable on the highway. The Trailhawk is a package that tried to turn a SUV into a off-road Jeep, and to be honest, failed. Because it's a package the parts are marked up which is why he was complaining about the price. Either way (SUV or off-road) the half shafts are going to get wear (granted off-roading will cause more than city driving) and are going to need replacement when they go bad. Edit: spelling

Ya but there isn’t really much to be upgraded in an axle shaft to justify 9x the average cost. I’m pretty sure that’s the point. And as mentioned, it’s a wear item; it is absolutely going to be replaced at some point. Adding pricey/beefy aftermarket parts/upgrades to your 4x4 to improve performance is one thing. You can’t really “boohoo” anout beating the hell out of your offroad rig; but coming straight from the manufacturer as a part that will wear no matter the conditions is a different story
