No, I have never put those things in my clear bag and I travel 3-4 times a year internationally, with multiple flights. Plus, I also do not put the mini samples of eye cream, face cream, etc., in there, because I have forgotten so many times to put those in my clear bag and have never been stopped for that. I do think non-US airports are not as strict.

I travelled Denver to Italy with that sort of clear, zippered bag. No problem with TSA here or whatever they call it over there. I was super impressed with flying with carry on only for a week. They got me coming back because of the weight. It was all okay because I didn’t care if they lost it coming home.

Couple of things to add: - makeup sample containers are excellent for ruthless travel decanting. Screw-top pots can carry moisturiser, lipbalm & facewash. Armani’s tiny little glass foundation sample bottles, with the inbuilt dabber, are great for a few days’ worth of perfume. - Shrink your deodorant. I emptied out an old lipstick case, sliced off a portion of stick deodorant and slotted it into the case. Unless you’re going on a long trip it should be more than enough & takes up hardly any room.

Reusable makeup eraser cloths, bug repellent wipes, SPF powder (both supergoop and colorscience make varieties), hand sanitizer wipes, and makeup removing balms (which are solids) are good options. Coconut oil will stay in a solid state if it’s not warm out, too, and can make a good moisturizer, makeup remover, or shave balm. Also any prescriptions can go in a 2nd bag (so contact lenses, prescription retinol creams, etc. don’t have to count against you 3-1-1 limit). Carry on travel is also when I go through all the Sephora samples that I seem to accumulate throughout the year 😂

Hackety hack hack, take a sandwich size Ziploc bag, or snack size if you need less. Fill it up with cotton rounds then pour in your micellar water until saturated. Make sure all cotton rounds are covered well, but no excess. Zip her up, squeeze out any air and put in your carry on with other stuff NOT your 3-1-1, honest I did 2 months worth of them, which lasted me 5 months, because hey, I wasn't wearing make-up everyday. They didn't go bad, or get stale, just make sure to zip tight after each use.😀❤️😀 I've done this for much shorter trips as well. As long as they soak up your micellar or equivalent in your backpack, separately looks and, kind of?????? is a solid. More room for other stuff. When you squeeze it down, straight up takes no space in your non 3-1-1 backpack. I need the extra room for sensitive skin sunscreen which I decant into tsa approved bottles as you suggested.😀😀😀❤️😀😀😀

TSA regulations for a liquids bag dimensions state: 6"x9". The bag you recommend (which I really like) comes in a 2-pack. One is too small: 7.9"x5.5", and the other is too large: 9.6"x6.5".
@awaytogether2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, the TSA’s regulation is 1 quart. 6x9 is an approximated rule of thumb. You should have no issues with the larger of the two in that set. From the TSA “As long as the toiletry bag is the approximate dimensions of a quart-sized bag (6″ x 9″), you’ll be good to go through the checkpoint.” I found this article helpful: travelinglight.com/quart-size-bag/
@violas.862 жыл бұрын
@@awaytogether officially it is still too big as 6x9 is for a flat bag. Once you add the depth of this type bag they are easily 1.5 times the size actually allowed. That being said it will often depend on the people/countries/airports. In our country we approach more as 10x100ml. So obviously that would require a larger bag. 🤷🏻♀️ It does get confusing at times.

Yes. I've been taking Clinique soap bars with me to travel for years. So compact and high quality. It is wonderful. You're the first person I've heard that does that also. I'm not sure how I started, but I used to get the smaller sample size bars when Clinique dealers would run their promotions (to get a bonus cosmetic bag and several samples). I just make sure to let the bar dry out on some type of elevated surface, like over a cup. When the bars are dry, you don't need to put them in any sort of case. For me, the sample size stick deodorants are bad. I must be heavy handed because the bar part always breaks off. So my one full size item is a full size stick deodorant. There really isn't that much more product on the full size ones.

There are airports which will give you an unpleasant surprise. The Stansted Airport in the UK ( mostly budget flights on small aircrafts, like Ryan Air to various countries in Europe) will hand you a sandwich baggie that's hard to keep closed. It's a far cry from the quart size container. You have to be able to get your liquids in and seal the bag. Many things get tossed. Using 2oz bottles help. I've learned to buy things at the destination, like deep conditioner. Before departing back home, there's so little of the liquids left, I end up pitching most of them.

Rules don’t change, but their interpretation changes with each agent - which is covered by the disclaimer that the action taken is solely at the discretion of the TSA agent who puts hands on your property. This little loophole is what allows agents to be downright thieves and total idiots with indisputable authority to do whatever they like. Example: agent in Barcelona passes through 4 ounces of clearly marked prescription medication needed during flight accompanied by a doctor’s letter, while the next agent confiscates it. The same agent confiscated the tubbing to our cpap machine. On Multiple legs from Europe to the US last week: one agent passes an unopened box of chocolates, while the next agent confiscated the same box saying it “might” contain liquid centers and anyway was a disallowed food product. And if you are a female, how would you like to be called out of line by a surly male agent who swabs your hands and suddenly and without a word and no warning reaches out and pulls up your shirt and swabs your belly - that’s called a temperature check - in public. Now we can all rest easy in flight, knowing we are “safe” in the hands of government agents.

Many of the machines have been upgraded so you don’t have to remove as many items in some airports.

Great video. You explained the 3-1-1 very well. It’s funny though only US cares about these things but not other countries.

Although the rules are pretty much the same in other countries, be aware that TSA pre-check only applies to the US. Comes from experience of quite a few American passengers holding up the security line because they don't separate liquids etc. Also nowhere else in the world uses imperial units but although they quote the requirements in metric, it is effectively the same.

Hi! I have a question can put the make up in the Personal bag? Thank you

Being a man who shaves his head my entire liquid bag is a small sample toothpaste and 100ml bottle of hand sanitizer, and liquid bug spray. All of which can be found at my destination. I’ve considered taking ZERO liquids and pastes just to confuse the tsa agents but I feel like not having ANY liquids to show them would make them suspicious enough to double check me 😂

Why not just use a quart sized Ziplock bag, put all you things in it, and then put them in the clear bag of your choice. Take the Ziplock in your personal bag in case you need to transfer things back. I got global entry because most of our travels are outside the US.

Are you able to take one of those Gilette razor for shaving in your carry on?

Years ago I stopped carrying liquids seeing the problems that they present. I use shampoo bar and toothpaste pills. If I am staying at a hotel they provide shampoo and such. Also where ever I am going there will be stores for just about anything I might require.

I thought chapstick counted as a non-solid. This is good to know. I have been putting things like that in too and in the UK I only have a ziplock bag to work with. 1 quart is a little bigger than our 1 litre allowance. It may not be a massive difference, but when you're trying to squeeze as many liquids as possible in, it makes a difference.

A liter is actually 1.06 quarts-one of the few things I remember from high school chemistry class! 🤓

@@CaitlinConCuore no, 1l = 0.879 quarts or 1 quart = 1.13 l

Instead of the travel size petroleum jelly, I take a small tube of petroleum jelly lip balm in my 3-1-1 bag. In my last two trips to Italy (in May and in October) I have yet to use it up and it takes up so little room. A little goes a long way for lips, hands, elbows... TSA in Glasgow told me anything that could be poured/squeezed/spread must be within 3 oz and in the 3-1-1 bag -- bye-bye heather honey. To keep room in the 3-1-1 I use toothpaste tablets. Take them out of the bottle and put them in a Ziploc-esque bag and your carry-on weighs still less. I actually like them better than paste.

Haha nice tip on "share with a partner"! Luckily my partner is pretty chill, so I tend to toss the shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste; anything we'll both use in his, then use mine for the rest. I do perm my hair, so I'm a bit more picky with my "non-negotiable" liquids I call it, BUT I have been trying out some solid options as well so they'll become my go-to options for flying 🙂

You’re mistaken about food having to go in the liquids bag. Only liquid foods and items such as peanut butter need to be in the liquids bag. Snacks, sandwiches, and other food items only need to be in a separate bag, but not the liquids bag.

I had a container of goat cheese as I headed through the checkpoint. I showed it to the agent. He said ok.

If it helps, the bigger bag is 9.6x6.5 inches. A quart is normal 7x8 and they are okay if it's "about" a quart... So the bigger bag is definitely okay. It's just shorter in height and longer in length!

Wow! Great info. I didn't realize deodorant was not part of the liquids. I thought if it smeared it was. Also, do you not travel with make-up?

Heathrow and Madrid would not allow the zip bag. Ask me how I know. TSA is a breeze compared with some European airports.

I am flying through Heathrow in 3 weeks. What size zip bag did they not allow?
@purplephoenix49692 жыл бұрын
@@JadeBonifacio your best bet is to get a ziplock sandwich bag to use for your liquids. I don't know about in the USA, but we have some that say airport approved (or something similar). You can buy them in the supermarket here. Maybe see if Walmart or somewhere has them. It will potentially make you life much easier when travelling, especially as Heathrow has had a lot of issues recently.

It's a bit trickier for those of us who wear makeup. Mascara, foundation and concealer goes in there too. And I have yet to find a solid sunscreen that I actually like that's not a greasy mess.

I left my liquid bag in Rome airport on the way home via London , but I didn’t get upset , it was nearly empty, my hack is take makeup that is almost empty so you can pitch and samples ! I took sample packets with moisture and face serums , took up no space for 12 days , I only did carry on too for Europe, and a very small personal bag
