He sounds like that because of his passion. He's adamant about putting his point across, & he wants to get things done fast. That's his samsaric character, I feel it's useful to him as a teacher & I think more people will relate to him because of that..

Thank you for not sugar coating this teaching. It is important for sincere practitioners who wish to make progress but find themselves overly preoccupied with worldly distractions to hear that their lack of progress is directly tied to their ignorance on impermanence. Such ignorance is an obstacle to accumulating merit because one's energy then goes into non-Dharma related things. Once we take to heart that we may truly die today, we will not waste our time indulging in the meaningless activities of life. So again, I thank you. In an age of emotional sensitivity it is refreshing to hear words of wisdom spoken so directly and to the point.

I cannot begin to say much this has helped.....recently lost a dear friend whose last words were " I don't want to die" upon which it hit me that all are destined to die regardless of the path we are in. I have started death meditation and will continue to do so for it helps me enrich the lives of all that comeinto my life regardless of wether it is for a second or a lifetime.

Lama Yehse (and this lama seems to be of the same tradition) used to say, "Meditate on your own death till the tears run down your face." Tolle says," Die before you die." Don Juan says death is a good adviser. The Samurai Zen tradition says live like a dead man. Trungpa says his tutors took him to many funerals as a child. I found working in hospice very helpful. Now cancer helps me keep death close. Grateful, grateful, grateful.

Thank you Tsem Rinpoche, your Teachings are precious. I hope your Centre prospers and continues the wonderful legacy you have given our world. I have attended and volunteered at an NKT centre for fifteen years and although it is frowned upon to mix traditions, I watch the Teachings given by Tsem Rinpoche without guilt because the teachings are the same. Tsem Rinpoche's direct approach generates a sense of shame in me to get on with my Practices and drop the excuses. Quite the coincidence that last night we started a series of classes on the death process and today this video popped up while I was looking for something non-Buddhist 😁 Thank you to the kind Sangha at Kechara for continuing to post the Guru's Teachings so that others may discover the beauty of Mahayana Buddhism. xxx

Thank you Tsem Tulku Rinpoche for sharing this amazing and clearly explanation about meditation on death. Everyone has a great fear of death, no one wants to die. However, it’s natural cycle, everyone in the world also has to face it. In Buddhism, dying without fear, with peace, with a sense of “happiness” is a key teaching. To the end, the teaching on the five power widely used in Purification practice can be helpful. These practice are: The Power of Purification, The Power of Intention, The Power of Remorse, The Power of Prayer and The Power of Familiarity. As Tsem Tulku Rinpoche said, everyone has to performing death meditation , no matter of what age you are. Many of the high lamas also advice on why we need performing the death meditation. For examples: “Death can happen at any time…meditating on death is very helpful.” by Zasep Tulku Rinpoche, “Facing Death and Dying Well” by His Holiness 14th Dalai Lama, “I think our fear on dying is a loss of control… Those thoughts are your conditioning” by Ondrea Levine , “ The notion of death cannot be applied to reality” by Thich Nhat Hanh, and so on. As a conclusion, meditation can overcoming the fear of dying and increasing our commitment to savour life. As we grow in mindfulness through reflection on the life of someone who had died and through meditating on death, we can learn to fully savour life and surf all its waves.

As many of us may know, the best meditation on death is watching dead bodies or the process of cremation and think that we will be on their place some day. Many monks do this practice and you can't deny that this practice is very efficient.

I think Rinpoche is a great teacher and entertaining person. This meditation if practiced can change your life .It is simple ,universal ,dark and light ideas that are universal and enlightening. These are unifying ideas just as Buddhism's teachings are. The same rules and ideas apply to everyone equally .A very serious yet funny and profound message .When you perceive the world and yourself as they are, then you see the simplicity of truth and beauty in yourself and the world and beyond.

I just watched the battle is a good thing or whatever the title was. I also just watched some older Rinpoche videos .He's really an intense ,smart ,serious yet funny monk. I'm watching the videos to attain a higher level of understanding of thought, Buddhism, and purpose. I highly recommend this and all of Rinpoche's videos because he is operating on a very high level of thought ,possibly the highest level. He is also able to convey his thoughts to you with a powerful command to make people want to practice Buddhism without having to persuade people to practice .All good teachers make learning fun also so you learn without even realizing it but realize the teaching also .He makes very serious topics serious but also has a good sense of humor .He's a great teacher.

Death is inevitable. Everyone knows death. When we meditate on death and see that all we desire and fight for will end in death, it really makes everything in a different perspective. I start to question, "What is really important?" Is my purpose in life merely to breathe, take up space, pretend to be important, have a few friends, a few millions????

I know this sounds ridiculous, but I just turned 18 and my fear of aging has kicked in. And I think I realize why now. Because I fear growing further and further from childhood, a time when everything seemed permanent and it seemed like you'd never age and when death of "non-elders-of-the-moment" seemed like a myth. It was easier to deny death. Now I realize how much enjoying the present moment really is important. I tried this meditation for like, 2 seconds, and got so scared! I hope it gets

actually, if you meet people who have had near death experiences, or recovered from very serious illnesses, they will tell you that it has helped them tremendously to live positively and happily. This is what the teachings on impermanence are about As Rinpoche himself says in his book "If not now, when?": WE TALK ABOUT DEATH SO WE CAN LIVE; WE REALISE DEATH SO WE CAN MAKE OTHERS LIVE

There is an explanation in Chinese destiny reading as to why people are fat or thin. If I understand correctly, it has to do with one's resource element. Remember, what we see is like an illusion.. Gaining weight is not necessarily negative because everyone's point of equilibrium is different, & even different at different times of their life..

@samann95014 I used to think after thinking about death you'd be all down, negative and scared. On the contrary, you'll find that a lot of things that would normally bother you, would bother you less. If you think how short this life is and how all those things that nag you would really not mean a thing at the point of death. You'll let go of things easier, feel less stressfull. You might even end up living longer !

Thinking about what will befall everyone in this planet appears to be negative. It is if we don't try to understand more about it because then we have no way of dealing with it when it strikes us and we are caught totally unprepared. If we understand death knowing the dangers when we take rebirths in lower realms, we will want to do something about it.This fear becomes a positive motivating factor for us to find a way out like what Sakyamuni did.

+rachelmcadamslover I think there is a benefit even for agnostics because your time on earth is finite. So doing death mediation brings your mind to face the reality of this existence. Your life will end so make the best of the time you have now. Furthermore the time of death is uncertain, so death could hit us anytime and anywhere, no one is above dying.

Whether one meditates on LIFE or DEATH, that is not the issue! . . . . So, just get RELAXED AND start MEDITATING on objects . . . . An object can be anything, such as (1) an IMAGE (for example, Statue of Buddha, Lotus flower, any flower, any tree, an image outside image of your home, school, office, etc.), (2) a LIGHT (e.g. moonlight, sunlight above landscapes, sunlight on streams, rivers or fountains, candlelight in your room, forest in moonlight or sunlight, wildlife in moonlight or sunlight, etc.), and a SOUND (e.g. sound coming from outside such as sounds of traffic, people, any noise pollution, sounds of birds, air, etc, or inside sounds, such as sounds of your room fan, your children giggling, your own breathing, family members walking and talking, etc.) . . . . Just, be relaxed and be an outsider when concentrating on one of the objects (i.e. an image, light, or even sound that suits your mood) with your awareness being an OUTSIDER concentrating on those objects with your eyes closed (or maybe sometimes opened) . . . Just, don't force . . . . Let other ideas come and interrupt your concentration . . . . Accept them and don't get annoyed, and just be relaxed . . . . As you practice more, your concentration will improve . . . . That's what I learnt from TIBETAN BUDDHIST MEDITATIOn . . . . . May long live, Tenzin Gyasto, the 14th Dalai Lama . . . . Lots of regards . . . . OM MANI PADME HUM

If I may add to Tsem's point. Contemplate, meditate on death until you comprehend deathlessness. From that point observe and contemplate, meditate on karma. It has no static form and is mutable to your perspectives. You lucky bugger Tsem, I'll be dead one of these decades too. Yet for now, may I find no end to the samsara for the causes of happiness towards all. Being unkillable sucks.

Pavithran M, why so much anger until you hurl vulgarity on a public platform? Even if you disagree with the content of the video, can't you express your dissenting view respectfully?

Thank you for your comment, but please don't assume what someone means because they used the word "fuck". You have no idea what I think of this concept of death meditation. I was deeply affected by this speech and have been doing the Lam Rim meditation everyday since. Go get offended by all the horrific things happening in the world today rather than by my profanity. But still, let me be open minded and ask you what else you can teach me based on your experiences.. I am willing to listen to your insights.

They way you wrote did not leave any space for assumption. If you do practice meditation, the first thing is the choice of words related with the content.

I can see the point tho...if you realise how precious life is, you`ll let go of some negative stuff easier and you can concentrate more of the meaningful things in life! Still I don`t think that one should scare people into this kind of life, they should find out about this eventually as they walk through it. I also doubt that one should think about death every single day in order to be a better person. I agree that you should be able to make piece with the fact that death will come eventually.
