Shantae: Best in world exploring, hidden levels, and hardest out of all of them. Shantae Risky revenged: improved graphics, innovating world interaction, and a great plot twist. Shantae and the pirates curse: the best story, fast and smooth gameplay, and unique move-set and upgrades. Shantae 1/2 Genie hero: revolutionary graphics, soft reboot of the series, and unique boss battles. Shantae and the seven Sirens: a new and unique setting, great leveling exploration, and fun new characters. All Shantae games: amazing smooth animation!

20 Years of Shantae (2002-2022)
@AlexanderGonzalez-u3y5 ай бұрын
I love how good these games play out, story wise, gameplay wise, and character wise. I honestly came up with some reboots for the series itself. Half-Genie: A Shantae Saga: This was inspired by how the games in the early 2010s were dark and lore heavy. This quintopoly of games (Eye of Copper, Nerves of Steel, Heart of Gold, Wish of Diamond, and Curse of Platinum), will concentrate on making the game combat and platform oriented. There is muti-player, so you don't have to fight alone. The story is that Shantae is trying to find out about her family's secrets, but Risky is power hungry, looking for all genies around the world to create the ultimate wish, and Shantae and her friends must stop this before it's too late, while dealing with some other serious and non-serious issues along the way. Shanise: A spinoff that was more original than anything. The story is that the students of Shamrock High (Shanise, Susan, Brian, Rose, Holly, Belle and Ruby) were all engulfed by a sinkhole that seals itself back up, and now the teens are in a new city they now reside in. While Shanise and her friends get their newfound powers from a genie lamp, Ruby is deemed the new queen of the Tinkerbat Kingdom. Shanise and her friends will try and stop Ruby from world domination. [PLUS, there is a spinoff game for this called "Holly, Animatronic Age" which has the protagonist, Holly goes through the entirety of an establishment curing and saving animatronics from this curse that is haunting the place. Kinda like FNaF: Security Breach, but better.] Shantae: Born Wild: This was made from the idea of Sonic Boom. The good parts at least. This game will function like an open world version of River City Girls. You can get to play as 6 different characters (Shantae, Sky, Bolo, Rottytops, Dolly, and Bullette). The story is that Shantae's dance instructor is a robot commanded by a Tinkerbat, who was sent by Risky to scare and make all of Sequin Land dystopian because she felt like it, and it's up to Shantae and her friends to stop it. Shantae R: A Sonic the Hedgehog inspired reboot that takes elements from Sonic 06 with three different campaigns: Shantae, Nega Shantae, and Hover. The story of Shantae is the Risky is sencelessly attacking towns here and there, and she must put a stop to it, all the while dealing with Bolo and Bullette who believe that she was the reason why Bandit Town is in shambles before making them her friends. Nega Shantae's campaign is that her vast taste for revenge against her Shadowling brethren for being locked up for years on end, and just wants to see the world out of her locked up life, away from her captor, Risky's great grandfather. Hover's campaign is that her future is dystopian and wants to avoid it from happening, so she travels to the past to change everything.

@@dipman785 "Also, how is a true Metroidvania (SS) a watered down platformer (HGH)? Completely different games." ---> "Metroidvania vs platformer"? No one ever said that either style sucked. It's simply about things like transformations, level design, boss battles, and etc.. I'll demonstrate my points. In Half-Genie Hero you can turn into a monkey, a bat, an elephant, a crab, a mermaid, and... I forgot the others since it's been a while since I've played, but those are enough examples to demonstrate my points. In Seven Sirens, the different transformations I've experienced (since I haven't yet beaten it but close to) would be the newt which gives you the ability to dash and climb walls, the drill creature who drills through sand thing, the frog which helps you swim, and the octopus which helps you triple jump. If you've experienced both games, you can easily say that Half-Genie Hero's transformations and it's not even about "Ooooh, Half-Genie Hero has more transformations therefore it's better", it's simply about how the transformations in Half-Genie Hero feel like they have more personality. Let's compare the water frog in SS vs the crab and mermaid in HGH. The water frog moves like trash. I can easily say that. Compare that to the mermaid and crab which have their own different styles of navigating through the water. Like the crab usually stays on the ground and has a small body so it can go through small gaps (oh wait I remember it can work on land too I forgot), while the mermaid is more about navigating the upper parts of the water that the crab can't swim to. Actually the crab can snip leaves now that I remember about it. So yeah, there are different styles to go underwater in HGH. Ah, the mermaid can go up waterfalls and stuff which is hm but okay. But yeah, so when you experience Seven Siren's water navigation system which feels like a turn-based movement type of thing... and you just don't do much other than avoid the spikes in the water... Oh right, about the spikes in the water. I remember the spikes in HGH having more fun obstacle design meanwhile in Seven Sirens... they're just sticking to the wall... Like just lining up right alongside the walls... that's how boring Seven Sirens' water navigation is. At least in HGH you can feel the different limitations of the crab and the mermaid. The crab can't swim up and only stay to the ground while the mermaid can't fit in small gaps. But with the frog it's like... why? Who thought this was a good idea? Why even get rid of the good ideas from Half-Genie Hero instead of building upon them? Like this is what confuses me about how you can't even understand why Half-Genie Hero is better in this aspect at least. I'm not arguing that arcade platformer is better than the Metroidvania format unlike you with your garbage take. Like HGH just has much way more personality and thought put into it than Seven Sirens. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know how to think. I don't mind if somebody says "Seven Sirens feels more like the first 2 games like with how the world is connected together" and that's absolutely cool, I have no problems with that. But to say that you can't compare HGH and SS just because they are in different styles in response to "Seven Sirens doesn't feel as good to play as Half-Genie Hero" is just dishonest. Like just play the first level of HGH and battleships that are far away in the background are shooting cannon ball hatches which can hurt you if you don't dodge them, and not only that, Risky's crew members jump right out of those hatches afterwards and you have to defeat them. Like Half-Genie Hero feels way more fun simply thanks to enemies having entrances like that. Actually I've checked an HGH long play and just picked something random in the middle and saw the haunted house part and well, that was awesome. From running skeletons who jump off the ledges when going down, to the chandeliers that fall on you as you panic and try to dodge them, only for them to also burn the ground, the the chests which you open except they turn out to be ghosts. Yes, ghosts in a haunted mansion, that fits. Like your vision is covered so you don't know what else to expect. Going through doors that moves your camera to a different part of the map, and if you go through enough, you'd find hidden chests or a character. Then there's a chain which requires you to transform into the monkey to get to that top room but you need to angle your jump in the correct way so it'll take some tries. Like... that's just one part of Half-Genie Hero. I remember going through flying carpets, going on top of ships that are flying with the clouds in the sky as you have to defeat the soldiers who are running towards you, not only that, you have to damage the ship's guns and missiles. I also remember the water segments where you have to navigate with the crab and you could even snip fishes who are coming from above. I remember finding fun secrets with the elephant by having to smash rocks that are on the edge of the screen. Oh and also having to stomp flowers to find items which is... hm. But yeah, I remember finding hidden places with the bat by going to a high place and flying way across the screen to somewhere I never know. Like Half-Genie Hero felt like a huge adventure and you had to use different transformations to traverse different pathways and find hidden secrets. Like it was a lot of fun. So for you to call it a watered down platformer, I have no respect for you and am willing to think of you as dishonest. Or perhaps your love for the previous games has shattered your view of Half-Genie Hero, which actually makes me excited because as shown in this video, they look like games with a lot of personality. Pirate's Curse with the guns that target Shantae so you have to run fast. Risky's Revenge's forward and backward navigation and you can even see the enemies moving in the background. As for the first Shantae, I heard that the exploration is the best, like... these past games are actually great and has given me a lot of curiosity. Like in Pirate's Curse when the bridges explode one by one and when you finally fall to the ground, bam! Piles of bodies. Like that just has a lot of personality and fun to it. To be honest I don't get why Seven Sirens has a lot of love. Like I really don't understand how it compares to any of the previous games. I just went through the siren with the brains and like... is it really a good Shantae game? Even if you don't compare it to the previous Shantae games, and just compare it to other Metroidvanias, is it even a good Metroidvania? I've played Axiom Verge and if you've played that, you know it's very intriguing with its sci-fi. While in Seven Sirens, it's like... why? Does anything matter? Is it fun? Is being a newt who can dash every single time fun? I've seen someone say that they don't really like replaying Seven Sirens yet they enjoy replaying Risky's Revenge. Like is Seven Sirens really that good? Do people actually think about it? Do they actually compare the games? Like you say "Try playing the Definitive mode if you haven't already. It's actually challenging." but why should that change anything? The problem is a lack of personality. If sand and water navigation sucks, why does it matter if you play the game in a harder difficulty? The spikes literally stick to the walls underwater... how is that not a red flag? How does that not tell you that they haven't put as much thought into the game as much as the previous ones? You don't even see Sky flying with her bird in Seven Sirens unlike in Half-Genie Hero... Not that I've finished the game but it makes you wonder what the point of her character is if all she does is laze around... Doesn't that make you think about how the game isn't filled with as much thoughts? About how it could have better design, or more fun enemies? Like the lobsters just run in a straight line... that's it. Knight skeletons in Half-Genie Hero at least run with a lot of energy and even jump. Yeah I feel very skeptical of people who say they like Seven Sirens. Did they actually play the previous games or are they just newbies who judge based on graphics or something. I have no idea what makes you guys like Seven Sirens a lot. Oh well, I'll go complete the game and see if there's a point or not. I will say this though, it's nice seeing the map be explored more and more. I'll give Seven Sirens that. Though that's just basic Metroidvania standards. I don't think that can count as a plus. Well at least I can say that the animations are fun. The intro is nice :). If only the game just had the same amount of energy...

It was a remake of the first game but didn't remake it exactly 1 to 1. I think Sirens was made based on criticism for Half Genie Hero. Seems like it anyway. Pirates Curse is fine and all but too spastic. I like the mechanic of jumping into the foreground and background in Risky's Revenge. That reminds me a lot of Wario Land on Virtual Boy. I think the series overall has been good though. We rarely get a new game in the series and it seems to be solid every time it comes back.
@ocarina269 Жыл бұрын
Well half-genie hero wasn't a remake exactly. It was more of a reboot/ soft reboot/ remake. ( Even the NPCs aren't sure.) But yeah, that game had more of an arcade feel to it while the rest were a platformer/ metroid type of game. I genuinely enjoyed Seven Sirens a lot more than half-genie since it was more like a Metroid game. And I hope they make a sequel to that game. And speaking of which, I'm really excited for the sequel to the original Shantae game for the Gameboy Advance. 👍😊

Capcom published it but they didn't make it. They advertised it like crazy in magazines but because it was the butt end of the Game Boy Color's lifespan, nobody bought it. Then the cartridge went to EBAY for insanely high prices even for the time. Because of that, I never got to buy it and play it back then. To make matters worse, emulating the game back then was impossible because emulators couldn't handle that game in particular for whatever reason. It took years to figure out how to emulate the original Shantae. These days it works no problem and the game was even brought back officially. :D Been following it for years.
