As his first solo museum exhibition, VMFA’s upcoming Tsherin Sherpa: Spirits marks a tipping point in the artist’s career. Here, during his 2019 visit to VMFA during the exhibition Awaken: A Tibetan Buddhist Journey Toward Enlightenment, Sherpa discusses a melding of influences, from the thangka painting traditions passed down from his father to American inspirations such as Andy Warhol.
