These Off The Record interviews are so damn fascinating. Nowadays, whenever somebody’s interviewed, they try to keep it clean and they try to be politically correct. Mostly because the public will hold them accountable if they say anything that’s incorrect, thanks to social media. Back 25+ years ago, there was no platform for the public to hold anyone accountable. I’m not saying that Bret stated anything that’s incorrect or politically incorrect in this interview, which I love that he’s so real and he’s the same Bret Hart today as he was in 1997. But in general with wrestling talent, you get such a realer side to them from these interviews from back in the day. If somebody says the wrong thing, they’d trend on X. Back then, people expressed themselves authentically since no such platforms existed where people can retaliate.

Aye I totally agree the only complaint I have is that it was a TV show exposing kayfabe lolol. But that's just me lol

@@marvelousrevolution6521it actually did a pretty good job blurring the lines. Most wrestlers would stay in character for the most part. I also think the screw job was a work so Bret’s appearances as “shoots” make sense in that light.

Yeah, I so wish this interview had been the week after this. Then again, Bret May have backed out after what happened at Survivor Series. I know he did the show again in December of that year, but it just would have been awesome to see him do this if he did go on within a few days after the Montreal screw job.

@@slimshead8100 Bret did indeed do one shortly after this, on this very show (also it's up on this yt channel). Not a few days later, but close enough I'd say, less than a month later.

Landsberg deserves more love from the wrestling community. These old interviews were great.

He was my age when he did this interview. Wish I had just a fraction of his talent. Lol. Guess we all can’t have that, though. Some of us just admire. Then again, he was born into a family where he had the opportunity to have training by one of the greatest trainers, which was his father. He’ll always be one of my all time favorites. I’ll always despise Goldberg for shortening his career. I already thought Goldberg sucked, and could never understand why people liked someone who had no personality and had to rely on other wrestlers to carry him, but I really hated him after that ridiculous kick he gave to Bret.

Ultimately,Bret didn't fit into the attitude eea. I think he was too old fashioned to be one the top guys.

100% this. Vince no longer wanted Bret, after signing a long term contract. Even if Vince opted to keep Bret, the man would’ve had a heart attack from how much further the WWF took things in 1998. It’s terrible that Bret’s career ended from an accident while facing Goldberg. However, leaving WWF was the best thing, whether he went to WCW or rode into the sunset.

@@XTR02it’s a legal document. Just because Vince regretted the contract, you have to honor it. Shocked Hart didn’t sue them.
