Feldbergs stood on his head the whole game. 55 saves in regulation and overtime, plus eight straight in the shootout. He was the reason Latvia won. Also a huge credit to their defence as well.

Their powerplay was great too. It was organized and moved the puck well, creating many shooting opportunities. A massive credit needs to go to the Latvian coaching staff, this team was well coached and well organized from front to back and stifled us all night.

@@TomBrown-m3d agree with you BUT have you looked at the NHL draft the last few yrs- more and more NCAA players are going in the 1st few rounds than Canada's junior b system- still a close #2 but fading- NCAA is developing some really good players and they come out of that program quite a bit more mature- which is important- another bonus of the NCAA program is that the players who don't make pro- maybe good players, got a scholarship and all- but quite often they got some good education along with there hockey which will help them in life- junior b leaves most young players adrift- most, like the NCAA program, is that most players don't go on to pro

Just look at the bronze medal championship- Šilovs was amazing, just bc coach trusted him, and he showed wgy he is Latvias No.1 goalie for now. WOW! How beautiful our Latvian guys looking! BUT - the most important thing is not to loose concentration in this win, which was always a big problem in Latvian teams... Latvia, also in pro level had wins over all champion countries, but eventually did not finish on top. The magic breakthrough was a 2023. bronze in World championships. But overall - it is around 7-9th place...which I think is still amazing for 1,8M country where those who have this priviledge(in Latvia it is priviledge - it is not affordable for normal family) to play hokey, are also quite motivated and determined, also to not just play in best leagues, but be best in those leagues.

@@TomBrown-m3d physical means that they checked, forechecked, dumped and chased, were agressive in the corners, battled in the corners, drove to the net and paid the price for earning dangerous spots on the ice. What game did you watch to see this? I saw the 2016-2023 Toronto Maple Leafs who took 50+ shots from the perimeter, made a goalie look good and barely sweat. But I only played hockey at a really high level…I’m sure that my opinion probably isn’t as informed as yours.

This kind of parity will only make the already great world juniors tourney greater. Interesting to me now is how Canada will respond. Great learning moment for the kids, and a great coaching opportunity. Dear NHL Scouts, Please take note of the players on this Latvian team. They were disciplined, smart, determined and their defensive play last night was remarkable. You could use a few players with these qualities on your NHL teams. I know you want prospects with high skill, who do things like fake missed shots and display the skating abilities of figure skaters. But we were all reminded last night that hockey is a team sport and championship teams succeed in large part because of the faceless grinders who frustrate the stars. We have a Latvian team full of them ripe for the picking. Signed: A Canadian who loves hockey

I was at a bar watching Leafs vs. Wings while keeping an side eye on this game. Once I saw it was only 1-0 in the 3rd, I knew Canada was in trouble. Teams of Latvias caliber are usually out by the 2nd, at least. This is just a matter of what team wants it more, which is usually Canada’s case when they lose. As a USA fan, I was the only person who was intensely watching game. Holy cow was it unbelievable.

Total credit to Latvia !! I am a proud Canadian and behind our boys 100% but we need to acknowledge that the players from these other teams are also talented. The fact that one of the Latvia players is the captain of a C.H.L. team tells me that we tend to underestimate these other teams.

I sincerely hope Hockey Canada gets their head out of the sand. Canada hasn't been competitive for a while now. We have primadonnas now. No grinders, just individual players.

Canada played brutal whoever picked this team is clueless. They had 56 shots but maybe 6 were scoring chances nobody is creative out there. Ten shooters in shootout all brutal, they look worse then last year

From puck drop - Canada was terrible - the panel gaslight the viewership about how well they play. They sucked against Finland too - granted they won yet their play wasn't great! I'd love for Canada to win but last night's game was deservedly won by Latvia!

North American hockey players lack intelligence. The penalties are uncalled for ie Gibson. They only know how to shoot themselves. Too cocky. They did not deserve a win.

Exactly. This panel is a joke. How about some real analysis. Canada is a garbage team and was last year too. Won't get better if you keep pumping the tires of your opponents.

This tournament has been dominated by Canada and the U.S. in recent years. Its nice to see the unpredictable happen for a change. Although I would have much preferred it happen in today's game between the U.S. and Latvia as opposed to last night.

Our nation, underestimated Latvia. Canada started a 17 year old goalie. Why? To build confidence. This tournament show cases, each country’s, best-of-the-best. With this, Canada’s goalie had a great game. But. This loss in my opinion is on the management & that late elbow we took. Latvia in the last 2-3 years has made major leaps, obviously Canada, forgot to take the blind fold off when they woke up! Shake it off. Now.

Very hard to score when you shoot from the blue line or the corner 100 times. Like Steve dangle says: “Go to the net”. This team is boring to watch. How are they not getting scoring chances or even sweating? Just a gross effort.
