Life is strange. Right before I found your Vlog my co-worker for 18 years and my right hand man was diagnosed with bladder Cancer (49 years old). He has surgery Monday to find out if it stayed contained or went into the muscle. Then another friend who is also attached to my business has a 3 year old daughter that I just found out has a brain tumor. 3 surgeries so far and in the children hospital for 2 weeks now. Afraid to get an update on her. On top of that I had to put my lab (dog) down after a battle with breast cancer a few weeks ago. Your situation is very similar it seems to my close co-worker and I appreciate you sharing your fight with us. I feel good vibes that you will kick some Cancer a$$ and for sure mega prayers your way. Keep up the fight and the positive attitude!!

I normally don't do this but having gone through most my life with a severe disease that caused me to lose most of my abilities and live day to day not knowing if it's the last, I understand the problems you're facing. No it's not cancer but the threat of mortality is the same. I wanted to just send you well wishes and positive thoughts. Prayers too. You were not named wil by accident. The attitude you have is what you need the most throughout this season for you. Stay warm, kind and keep optimism at 100. My favorite mantra when I had cancer (twice) was, "Feed your faith and allow your fear to starve." Good luck beautiful! P.S. Keep your ports and surrounding areas as dry as possible. Having it redone because of infection is soooo irritating.

Hi Will, I have some advice that can help. I had Non-Hodskin's lymphoma stage II a little more than a year ago with a portacath placement and a fear of needles too. Found your channel cuz I'm going on vacation to the Philippines and wanted to find some good places to eat and play, thanks for all the great suggestions. Sorry about your cancer but it's heart warming to see all the support you have. A. Freeze your sperm before you do chemo, talk with your doctor about it they'll know more about it, at least you'll have them when you're ready to use them. B. Talk to your social worker asap. Cancer treatment is pricey. Apply for financial aid from organizations related to your type of cancer. Apply for disability benefits, every little bit helps. Apply for medicaid if you have can. Even though I had good medical insurance, my medicaid paid for what wasn't covered. Because my family was proactive with managing my finances and following up on my applications I didn't go into debt and am fully paid off. C. If you have anything new on your body that's hard and might be warm or have veins sticking out or swollen let your doctor know it might be a clot. I was scared of needles too so if you'd like I'd like some advice to minimize those pesky needle sticks read on. Oh and these scenarios are based on my treatment, don't know how much yours will differ from mine. 1. On the day of your infusion they will draw blood for tests. Since they're plugging into your port that day, save yourself a stick and request for them to draw from there. You may wait a little longer cuz not all the nurses can do this. 2. When you have different blood draws scheduled from different doctors in different offices but around the same time, you can ask each doctor for a Laboratory Requisition Form. You collect all these then take to a lab your insurance covers and tadaa, what could've been 3 different sticks will just be one stick, hope you have enough blood. This requires some tricky scheduling and very important, make sure all the test dates fall within range. Alot of them are time sensitive, like within one week before your follow up visit. 3. Ask for the butterfly needle for sticks. It's smaller and less painful. In the cancer center that's what they used but in other laboratories they used a bigger type of needle. 4. Stay hydrated the night before and day of the stick. If they fail to stick you in the arm request for a stick in the hand. It's more painful and a slower draw but I've had better success there. If they fail to stick you twice feel free to request for another phlebotomist to try. Not sure it helps but I also try to strain my arms and slap my veins a bit before the draw, why cuz it make me look swolle and makes my veins pop. If you want to know about appetite and food read on. A. Meal replacement shakes are life. Food tasted bad, savory food the worst. Fruits, veggies, bland starch, and sweets didn't change much in taste actually. I survived of shakes, smoothies, unsalted crackers, toast and oatmeal. They were the easiest and fastest to eat. B. I still had my apetite 2 days into my infusions. By the 3rd day for then for the duration of a week and a half my apetite and taste were off. Since the my infusions were on and off the small window where my taste and apetite returned I would go pig out. If you want advice and what you'll experience on your infusions read on. 1. The first time they plugged into my port they offered me a cooling spray to numb the area. I believe it helped but didn't use it except the first time. The stick didn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought. It felt like getting jabbed with a dull pencil and quickly faded from a dull ache to nothing. Other that the initial stick and when they pull it out I forgot I even had it on. 2. They gave me a large dose of benadryl to prevent a histamine reaction to the chemo. I still did get one the first time so they had to increase it. It never happened again. Needless to say I was so drowsy from it. It honestly felt like I was high, so if you've never experienced that then there you go. This goes on for about an hour but I couldn't do much but sleep. 3. They sent me home with my very own bag, or fanny pack, with a clear bag full of a custom chemo cocktail and a mini pump to take with me everywhere. It took some getting used to but it felt like my buddy after a while. That pump goes on intermittently until you return to be disconnected or until you run out. It wasn't very loud and after a while I didn't hear it anymore. My schedule was 4 days on and 2 weeks off. 4. On the day I got disconnected my mini pump alarmed or was about to alarm cuz my bag was empty. It took about an hour to get flushed so I tried to keep entertained. It's was very important to have pain medication prescribed at this point cuz afterward they injected me with a medicine to stimulate white blood cell creation, the following 2 days after felt like some of the worst pain I've experienced. I was sore all over and felt like I was hit by a truck. After those 2 days I would slowly recovered and repeated the cycle. The first 3 cycles was ok. The last 2 not so much. If you want to know random bits I learned read on. A. Don't put off getting a blood transfusion. They run it through your port, no trouble at all, you'll feel better and it give you a good reason to donate blood later on. When you have heart palpitations while laying down and your red blood levels are low it's time. B. I had numbness and some tingling in the hands and feet. That went away but it took a while so no worries. C. Be a germaphobe. I had to learn the hard way that eventhough I felt great I got sick easily. D. Have several places to sit through the distance from you to the bathroom. You'll need them later. E. If you ever feel to dizzy to walk to the toilet. Crawl on the floor. Only had to do it once but it worked, I didn't crack my head and now I have a funny story to tell. F. Make sure you have pain medication and nausea medication prescribed asap. Even if you don't ever use them it's good to have them ready just in case. G. Shave your head long before you lose your hair. We're matching chemo port buddies now! Lol Definitely takes time to get used to and it'll be sore for a while but it's worth it! When it comes time to have your port accessed, if the needle stick is too painful (the skin is more sensitive where the port is, so the needle stick can be a bit uncomfortable) lidocaine cream works wonders! Numbs the skin right up. Only down fall is that it needs to be on the skin for an hour or two for it to work. So you put a blob on the port area and cover with plastic wrap early before chemo and when it comes time to get poked, you won't feel a thing 🙂 Some places also have a numbing spray which freezes the skin temporarily but that doesn't work always if the person spraying it doesn't do it right. It can also cause frost burns. That happened to me actually. Happened about 4 months ago and I still have the dark purple circle on my skin from it. But anywho. You're doing great so far! You'll get through this just fine. If I can, you definitely will too. ❤

I got that implant before too, it is actually connected straight to the veins. So they can just open it and put the treatment straight into it. That was how I do not need to be poked every time haha. God bless
