This sharpening system is definitely on the expensive side. What do you think about it? Is the price justified? Would you use a system like this? Do you have any qualms about it being "Russian Made"?

The best way to find the perfect angle is to use a Magic marker along the blade and adjust the angle until you are removing the Magic marker. The best way to know what angle you are using is to buy an angle finder. You still need to wipe the Diamond dust from the blade each time you use the stone so you don’t contaminate the next stone you use. You can also add polishing stones , 1500, 3000, 4000, etc, to your set to get a mirrored finish on the blade edge. Also get a jeweler’s loop or strong magnifying lens to look at the edge of the knife as you are changing stones, to see how the blade is being sharpened. The edge of the blade should look like a mirror if you spend enough money and time to sharpen the edge.

Is the "T" version a different animal somehow, or just a different finish? If the same why not buy the more reasonably priced one? Thanks!
@FittoSurvive
@FittoSurvive Ай бұрын
@@benm2370 I've not reviewed the "T" version. Looks like it might have an extra adjustment at the back, but I might be wrong.

Is the base large/stable/heavy enough to avoid having to clamp or hold with one hand?
@FittoSurvive
@FittoSurvive Ай бұрын
Yes, the base is very heavy. I've never needed to clamp it down or hold onto it.

Always use 2 clamps unless you have the single dual side clamp because your knife shifted while you were sharpening. Wouldve been worse if you had to reprofile and actually remove lots of material.

17 Degrees is optimal for EDC. 14 Degrees for kitchen knives. Recommend "Kline" digital angle cube. Zero on the rod. Then set on the BASE OF THE ADJUSTABLE CLAMPS and dial in the 17 degrees .

dude - if you'd put out a review of a russian product in europe, you'd have severe issues now... (heil ukraine and all this shi...t) btw like the system, i got one "made in germany", working similar - not as comfortable as this one for sure (sadly, there's a total embargo for russian proucts here) but question: i have a SAK here needing sharpening... shall i attempt to restore the original angles, or should i take another edge that cuts better than the vic-standard?
@FittoSurvive
@FittoSurvive Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I expect(ed) some people to make comments about it being Russian made. I knew now was not the best time to post this review, but I had already agreed to review it. 🫣 There was one Ukrainian that commented about Russia, but it looks like KZbin took down his comment. The SAK has a 15-20 degree edge. You could take it down to 10 degrees if you want it to be even sharper, but then you can also expect the edge retention to go down.

@@FittoSurvive well - nothing against russian products aso. it's just ...crazy times. to say the least... (over here - say you'd prefere peace-talks over wea...ponsdelivery and you'll be canceled (crazy²) thanks for the degree-tip. guess i'll keep it original then (it lasted for almost 20 years and only got numb recently... can't be all wrong then)

It’s only expensive if you can’t afford it. You can’t get the same results from a cheaper knife sharpener. In order to get professional results you are going to spend around $1000. Don’t even try if you don’t have the money.

I have the hapstone premium cbn man they give weird feedback I'm gonna try to get some edge pro matrix diamonds because hapstone premium cbn 80 grit is like 600 grit diamond lol it's good for finishing touches tho

@Zachariahfml do they have a metallic film? I was told I needed to dress them first because it has a protective coating. Once I dressed them they cut 1000 times better, they should be a pink color not silver so it they're not pink all the way across they're definitely needing dressed
@vindice5849
@vindice5849 3 ай бұрын
@Zachariahfml make sure to email them about it, they threw in a bunch of free stuff when I complained that I spent almost 500 on stones and would need to spend another 100 to make then work. They sent dressing stones strops and some other goodies too, but I'd bet that's your problem I was blown away how bad they cut until I dressed them and thought it was just my stones. Now my 80 cuts super quick and has a gorgeous scratch pattern
@Zachariahfml
@Zachariahfml 3 ай бұрын
@vindice5849 I ordered a dressing stone about 15 days ago cause it's coming all the way from Ukraine I'll have to send them a message I had a feeling this might be the case cause there is no way an 80 grit is that fine. How have you liked the results on your knives after you dressed your stones?

I have no problem with russian made stuff, as long I'm sure, that the money I pay don't support russian economics, so they may collect taxes and put the money in the war. So basicaly old/used stuff, that already is outside of Russia is OK.
