I played one in Guitar Center today. I have never fallen in love with a synth as fast as I did with this one. Weird because I wasn’t really that interested in it before. Such gorgeous, rich tone. I didn’t expect the spring reverb to add so much but it’s actually fantastic sounding. And there’s just something very satisfying about the glide which seems lacking in so many other synths, maybe it’s my imagination but it just seems to work better and sound more musical. Can’t wait to get one.

The sounds fra 05:20 - damn. I've played my GM every day since I got it, exactly a year ago to this day. And I swear, the more I play it, the more the instrument gets "worn in", the better it sounds - and it sounds A M A Z I N G. I simply cannot stress how much character this little hefty thing has. Without a doubt the best synth I've ever had and even played. This instrument is a desert island synth for sure. I've had synths before, a lot of them actually, but its almost like... this is a real synth, and the other ones were just trying to do what this thing does so perfectly.

The only problem with selecting a desert island synth is, what if the desert island lacks a power outlet?

Always wonderful hearing the great Marc Doty explaining synthesis. Cheers Marc thank you.

this thing is so gorgeous looking (and sounding), i will always love that 70s "ugly" style for a serious piece of kit...

Just had to return mine. C#2 was glitchy and misfiring with modulation right out of the box. QC on the GM is not great.

1990s trent reznor called. Guess what he wants back from you? Great demo! This and dfam made my face melt in guitar center the other day. It sounds "rounder" than my voyager. Less aggressive and sweeter for sure. Thanks for posting! Oh and your hair is cool. Im jealous that youve stil got yours :P

Dude thats rad! I thought for a minute you were growing it out, but nope, you're a G! I almost died and went to heaven when i heard him open with "march of the pigs" during his with teeth tour. The giant cheesecloth projection screen permanently fried my perspective of mankind. Best to you man!

Would be interesting to see a plotting of intended use and patching for the various series of moog instruments over the years. Like Voyager w/ expander and moogerfoogers, rackmount, phattys etc.. the Gma with the mothers.... the sub37 with... etc.

As a mainly acoustic guitarist I wouldn’t really know how to incorporate a monosynth into my music, and I always thought that if I ever bought a hardware synth it would be a poly, but this thing is making me changing my mind. Sounds amazing and has a look of a real instrument.

As a guitar player too, I would get a poly first, is way more of a instrument and also can do so much more.

Hi Marc :) the main thing im missing is the retriggering of the filter and it mostly sound the same. im using it mostly for leads/plucks but i must say the osc sounds absolutely beautiful. my matrixbrute and MFB Dominion 1 doesnt come close :)
@thedarkestrainbow5 жыл бұрын
I dunno Dom1 does sound pretty vintage and thick. Does maybe have a little less heft. And it does suffer from that very sine-y self oscillation, but it’s an incredibly versatile synth. I love mine. I still want the Gma though. I want them all haha.

The spring reverb isn't really a weird inclusion. Moog featured a spring reverb module in the early modular systems and that sound was associated with early synths as much as it was with 60's surf guitar.
@automaticgainsay Жыл бұрын
The 905 was not a common Moog module. And it’s a bit of a non-sequitur to suggest that because there existed a module 40 years before, that it’s not a unique inclusion.
@theboofin Жыл бұрын
@@automaticgainsay Well, that’s the point of the Grandmother, it’s meant to be based on 55 year old modular gear. The spring reverb was central to the modular sound of guys like Keith Emerson.
@digitalsea91472 жыл бұрын
Sounds pretty basic for a Moog let alone for a synth. The Microkorg is hella better Evan the mini Moog seems doper
