I can understand that for an experienced and dedicated player Akina might seem boring; particularly solo. I feel this would be "Akin" to calling the AE86 a boring car. Sure you might in time outgrow it but I think that's more of a comment on your skill as a driver than the run itself. As someone who flat out isn't any good and trying to be better I love Akina online with other people. There's enough margin of error to push a little harder without every corner being death, I can much easier let people by who are way faster, the straights vs hairpins lets me see handling vs power in a very obvious way. Even the long straights are engaging for someone like me still trying to understand the right line, time and pressure with which to brake. In the same way the AE86 is a car that teaches the driver, I feel the same about Akina as a run. But I guess you are the one who teaches around here, so I'd like to hear your opinion on Akina as a method for learning.

@@TSRB Am I? There is no principle of what makes a touge good or bad, every touge is unique and that's what set them apart. Now Akina is very unique because the layout is not similar to any other touge, whereas "narrow touges" are all about s-turns and consecutive corners, hence sharing a similarity. There is really nothing that can decide whether a track is bad or not, it's one own's intuition and how far you can take that course to the limit. It's not the track that's boring, you're boring yourself out.

This video underpins exactly why I still prefer 2017 Akina to the newer ek_Akina. The margin for error is too large on the newer track, and the wide sweeping banked roadway hand-holds most of the lower power cars through each corner. I still find the narrower roadways of 2017 Akina to be plenty engaging, especially when battling.

To me, Akina is the Dust 2 of the togue world. It's a classic. The 4 sections are like 4 movements of a concerto, each with a different tempo/approach (at least in TA) It's kind of like Suzuka, in that regard. Iroha, then, would be like Laguna Seca. Tsubaki Line is kind of like the Nordschleife. Plenty of flow, but also extremely technically demanding as well as being demanding on consistency, not to mention countless blind corners that can only be mastered through repetitious experimentation. My personal favorite though (though Akina comes close due to some stupid sentimental attatchment I have), is gonna have to be Happo - it's the most intense rally course on asphalt.

The road through Zion canyon in Utah would be awesome. I doubt it's in any game, but having driven it at night when there's not anyone else out there, it's an awesome drive. The road widens and tightens at different points, even on the steep section at the bottom with lots of big hairpins (that would be a lot of fun to drift) there's some chicane-like twists that make for interesting corner entrances and exits. Toward the top of the run, a lot of meandering twists and turns cambered to help you around. In the middle is a long, very tight tunnel with several turns ranging from a fast kink to some surprisingly sharp but still sweeping corners. I wouldn't want to push it in real life with my own car but if, between the close rock and tunnel walls and cliff edges, pushing it and getting it right on a video game (or even a car I didn't need to use daily) would feel amazing. Also, besides seeing a couple of these videos recently, I know almost nothing about touge. I just love driving a fun road

for me there is no bad tracks in touge as long as you can physically drive it to the end ofc. Because unlike race tracks they were not meant for this and this means you have to addapt to the track you'r on and have to abuse it's mechanics, it's all about learning what is the track about. That's why i like touge, it's more of your relationship with the track rather than learning patterns you can apply to almost every track ...

The thing about Akina is that it works great as an INTRODUCTORY course for touge racing, as it is relatively wide and easy by touge standards, but still teaches the skills needed to master the touge (slip angle, 4-wheel drifting, engine braking, inertia drifting, gutter techniques...). Obviously once a driver learns these skills, it becomes possible to apply them to more demanding courses like Irohazaka, Momiji, Happogahara, Shomaru, Sadamine, Tsuchisaka, Tsukuba, Yabitsu, Nagao, Nanamagari, Tsubaki, etc...

Personally, for me, Touge has a different approach to the race track, a race track is exactly what you mentioned in the video, but Touge is a "chilling street" where you swing from side to side with the car, feeling the curves and listening to some music at the same time, eventually drifting/sliding or going fast in some parts

Ive been driving on the 2017 akina prob for almost 2 years now and I cant break sub 18, while some drivers get sub 10s (same car btw). Thats why its difficult, it requires knowledge as well as great skill to master. While nagao and isui are boring for the little driver growth they offer. These as well as other tracks you mentioned are just too easy. In the first five tries you can get within 5 seconds to the fastest lap times (a bit of an exaggeration, but you get my point). And you'ld think why Takumi earlier on kept telling his dad that he needs glasses was because he got soo fast on the easy course that he felt everything was slowing down and even when competition came, he beat them easily and even smashed Ryosuke and Keisuke. Once he got to Usui Pass and battled Mako, he nearly shat his pants before composing himself and then again with Irokazaka when he was battling Ken Kagoshiwa. Heck if you think about it, nearly everywhere Takumi battled, he always nearly shat himself because those courses like the ones with Tomoyuki Tachi from Todo at Happogahara and even his final battle on the Hakone Skyline was a total twisty track with no bars for error and little overtaking space thus he panicked when getting pushed whereas on Mt.Akina, he got soo used to it and with the track being soo forgiving, he doesn't have to worry of people giving him pressure. Also, why do I love Irohazaka? "Pulpsy". Keichii Tsuchiya. 'Nuff said.

I don't like claustrophobic tracks like Shomaru or Takigahara I don't want to be stuck in second gear and having to hit the brake pedal more often than the accelerator. I absolutely DESPISE Irohazaka. I was sick of this touge in Initial D Arcade Stage 8, an arcade game made to be FUN. I can't imagine driving there in real life 🤢 The signature features of Akina? Well, what about the high speed sections? If my car has 300HP, I don't want to be stuck in sub 80km/h speed. I (and the car itself) want to hit 4th and 5th gear. After all the drifting, It is so satisfying to just floor it and let the engine roar. Like a wise man said, I paid for the speedometer, I'm gonna use the whole speedometer. And about the overtaking opportunities, well, that alone makes it great. You can have proper racing without turning the race into bumper cars

Been loving Touge Life #3 for the constant stage rotation, without having to download a bunch of random cars (though I LOVE the non-Kunos cars on other TL servers, sometimes feels like a mild chore after work, when I don't have them already and the server rotates/updates (looong subtext)) Nagao was damn fun in the MX5 😀

I would be mad if I wasnt kind of bored myself. But Akina does act like some kind of holy land for weebs coming into sim racing, gotta pay respect to the OG course(in Initial D's context)

I grew and built my technical skills on Akina and I will never stop running it, but I agree. I honestly prefer Sadamine over any other touge, just because of how beautiful it is. Driving wise and looks wise. The low speed winding corners at the start let you prepare for the high speed section ahead, which then goes back to low speed corners. It's the most fun I've had on a touge and I highly recommend you drive and practice it.

If you trying to talk about togue and compera to some track don't forget that all those roads first of all wasn't designed for racing on it. It is all about public roads in mountains. Complaining about long srtaights and hairpins, lack of overtaking opportunities on tracks that based on real road is quite bad. In AC lots of tracks that was design for racing and just have scenary to look alike japanese public road.

I mean you can just look at what track online are populated and what isn't , EK Akina always has populated servers so that's where people migrate to. Tracks that flow too well get boring pretty quickly that's not challenging.

it really depends on the car you are driving on it. the nd really is boring because its stabke and predictable on the high speed sections. with the tuned 86 you are constantly in a flowing state sort of sliding but not really too much so you dont have to correct with tbe steering wheen but more with the pedals. i started out on akina i think 3 or 4 years ago and im still driving it every now and then. my best time was lousy 5:19 but for me its still the most challanging, frustrating and fun touge tracks

If TSRB's reasoning about Usui is to be believed, then it would totally explain Takumi's insane performance at Usui despite the lack of any real practice. (especially the drift at C-121)

I entirely disagree, if anything Akina is the holy ground mixture of what Touge's could turn into in terms of character, I believe it's just a matter of personal preference on what each Touge Racer prefers, adding the fact Akina is a great course that trains the senses, skills and techniques of both novices and seasoned veterans. Plus an important factor is your presentation keeps looking at Akina at not for what it is, but rather what other courses are, while it's healthy to compare it is not a fully bonified rule book to adhere to, in my opinion a better perspective is looking at courses for what they are and what they present to you the driver and your car. Nevertheless great presentation, commendable explanation and overall intriguing points, this is why I love being a part of the community you and I are both in. Enjoying the videos man, keep it up.

This Akina is way too wide, which can fit in 3 to 4 vehicles shoulder to shoulder. There are KZbin videos showing how narrow the real mt. Haruna/Akina is. If you think the footage is too slow, you can try with 2x speed.

Good review. Im not a big fan of touges with long straights and key corners where you have to know exactly the optimal speed and breaking points to exit as faster as possible to another long straight section. Maybe as a "fictional" road in the anime, they imagined it like that to give some advantage to racers who knows the path inch by inch, like Takumi. That's how his underpowered car comes up in the mirror like a unnatural freak. But yeah, I also prefer narrow tracks with a bunch of corners, even if the average speed be much smaller and have less overtake opportunities.

Pretty good video, I agree with it. You demonstrated each of your points and views nicely, and it's all neatly put together. With that said-- try Project Kaido's Mt. Akina (Haruna), it just recently released. I think you'll find it's a lot more interesting to drive.

Honestly, Akina (haruna) is both boring and fun at the same time. It offers low speed, quick cornering and long straights to build up speed again, but at the same time is littered with narrow corners that are hard to slide through. I think it's redeeming feature is the gutters (yes ik, cliche as hell but it's the only thing that really brings it's status up).

Most of the touges getting recommended by people are more for show drifting (pretty much only the EK tracks..) they are usually FLAT as fuck 0 feel to the road and despite the layout and elevation being good, it feels like an arcade game. Mulholland drive is one of my favourite feeling roads, feels almost laser scanned bumpy and incredible feeling camber. Akina 2017 shits on EK Akina btw in terms of road feedback and road width/sense of speed

Akina is not my favourite togue (I like Usui, Akagi the most), but I disagree with difficulty point. Due to togue characteristics it is INSTANTLY more difficult than ANY typical race track that I have driven (personal opinion), due to tricky steepness and (some) narrow corners. Executing racing lines is much more easier on typical racing track in F1 car, than in togue (including Akina) in
