The origin of blind attack The 'blind attack' move was first used in the rematch race against Todou racing school. Takumi's opponent, Tomoyuki Tachi(a professional racer),pulled of a vanishing trick (vanishing racing line that utilize opponent's blind spot) to overtake him. Takumi who's not so familiar with pro racing thought that Tomoyuki turned off his headlight. So he decided to turn off his headlight to try overtake Tomoyuki.

@@RyuusanFT86 if you think you can set any sort of a decent time on any track or road without practice, even with the best of conditions, let alone with literally no vision whatsoever, then that already tells me enough about you. Why do race car drivers do thousands of laps in perfect visibility to only get times that have already been done before? When they could just go at it in pure darkness for their first ever time driving the road and apparently do just as well? Why does every ken block gymkhana video have tyre tracks in every single corner before he even goes through it in the video? Because he practices the corners over and over again until he is confident with them, and this is all in broad daylight. The fact you think you can drive on a road you cant even see, without any lights at all, and with zero practice beforehand just by having "a good margin and feel for the pace" is baffling. There's a reason only 1 person in the entire of initial d even does this, and it just so happens to be the person who breaks physics in almost every single episode and is basically who the entire franchise is about
@RyuusanFT86 Жыл бұрын
@@InitialDreadly For you to write an overly long response reinforces how misinformed you are. The opening sentence just shows you don't even grasp a majority of racing as a whole, but if you're gonna write a missinformed essay, I'll be happy to corrrect you. We'll start with what merits a blind attack holds, that being not much. It soley relies upon the the driver in front of you either noticing your headlights gone and being distracted enough to make mistakes- which also relies on either the conditions of the battle not letting you pass or the driver blocking you and *_hopefully_* giving in on their blocking line. Doing so without knowing the road isn't something wise, which is why you at least study the road OR practice a bit. One night, even just 20-40 Minutes is enough time to memorize the road enough to rely on your skills and or experience, but it's not impossible to do it outright. As someone who's set competitive times on their first day on a Road course in a car with a suboptimal setup, I can yell you Doing so at night with poor visibility is not possible- but nobody here is talking about times. We're talking about pulling off driving with your headlights off behind someone who has theirs on. I'd like to add, visibility isn't immediately pitch black for every single road in the world. Running with just foglamps is something I've done for sake of getting used to a road that I already have a 3-4 hours on. All in all, it's not advisable for obvious reasons, but saying it's impossible- even with a few hours of seat time is just ignorant, almost pathetic if said with such confidence. Bonus points on that aspect for bringing up Ken Block without him beign related, dead give away you're just an inexperienced kid who's waiting to finally get out there and experience the world; if you can't yet or at all I don't blame you- but you're speaking to someone who spends every waking second and spare dime on racing their car since they were in highschool; I can say with full confidence that nothing about Initial D is special and a large majority of things present in the series are things that happen every day globally.

I remember reading the manga around 86 vs cappuccino race. The narrator made note of Takumi having “sort of a photogenic memory”, allowing Takumi retrace what he considers his fastest line, versus racing off sight alone. As a result, you get the blind attack. In short, even if he can’t see with his eyes, he can see with his… memory. Anyway, enjoyed your video! 👍🏾

To be fair the actual technique is the "disappearing line" and Takumi is confused and just turns his lights off. However, the blind attack is a LOT more usable on smaller mountain roads. I've personally raced against some of my friends and a few locals on the mountain roads near where I live - yes I know, very dangerous, only do it after 00:00 though. If you're chasing, then having your lights off actually let's you see more than with them on I find. At least for me - it might be some kind of concentration thing. I find it easier to see which lines they're taking and counter them, and it does make it a LOT harder for them to defend. Even if they're good I can set up an overtake over multiple corners, and they'll struggle to react. It is dangerous, yes, but there's nothing like it.

irl this is literally the definition of high risk high reward. I'm sure you have driven at night with roads that don't have any lights, at some point. I have, and turning your lights off is terrifying but if you know the road well and if you are racing this can be very rewarding since there is no way the opponent can see you, moonlight does absolutely nothing in terms of illumination. But in (most) racing games even though if you turn off your light you can most probably still be seen by your opponent or have like indicators of where you are.

I can answer as to why it works in the anime at least, given that I'm an Arcade Stage player(not good at it though). When Takumi uses the Blind Attack, you have to keep a few things in mind: 1. Although he does study the passes he races on in 4th Stage and beyond, he has to rely on his opponent's innate knowledge of the pass to properly use the Blind Attack. 2. Takumi has to use his opponent's headlights and taillights to memorize braking patterns and the path ahead. 3. When using the Blind Attack, Takumi would have to know exactly how close he is to his opponent's headlights to know if the overtake is confirmed. I know this because I tried the Blind Attack against the Todou School Spoon EK Civic, and it's TOUGH to do it because of how fast he is in sectors 1-3 of the pass. You can't tailgate bc you have to see your opponent's headlights and you have to learn the Takumi execution to even make proper use of it in the one game it's designed to be used in. It's balls-to-the-wall stupid, but that's what makes it the coolest anime gimmick.

I use the technique in GTA almost all of the time, most of racing veterans also uses it because headlights aren't really needed in that game as its naturally too bright at night, and some of them dont even race with headlights turned on. Also unfortunately on GTA it doesn't really matter much because all cars got their top speeds capped up too much and almost everyone races with catch-up turned on which caps the top speed of the leading car evne harder.

Blind attack isn't just turning your headlights off. Originally it's called vanishing line, you can't defend from it as the other driver fakes from going outside to the inside in a split second and it doesn't require you to turn off lights. Secondly Takumi did it with pop up headlights, which gives him another advantage, less drag. And for the third point, when you go without headlights for some time and come to a corner you can surprise the front driver with illuminating the corner and it's visibility with your headlights, while he was observing the situation and preparing for the corner, which creates illusion that the corner is coming sooner than expected and you might be going too fast because your eyes were used to less lighting on the road. I realized it after watching Takumi race team 246 Omiya and his Mazda

I mean, not so sure that it's useless as much as a reckless, jerk move. Relying on the other driver's headlights and actively trying to avoid being seen by the car you are trying to pass is a great way to cause a collision. If the other driver doesn't crash into you, yeah they won't likely defend as they can't see you until too late.

You completely missed this technique only works for touge racing and at night. Use it to overtake a slow car ahead. Preemptively turn of your lights as you approach the driver he should not weave into the oncoming lane in which case you have about 5 seconds to make your pass while also looking ahead for more traffic. With your lights being off you can almost see double the distance ahead at night. Hypothetically of course.

Yeah it also helps if you are counter attacking with opponent being on the inside while you are on the outside having next corner as an inside and he would have outside
