At age nine, Lyla suddenly faced a challenging diagnosis - juvenile idiopathic scoliosis. However, Lyla wasn't alone in this journey. 20 years earlier, her mother, Ashley, walked a similar path having been surgically treated for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis at 16. This mother-daughter duo found themselves under the great care of Dr. Daniel Sucato at Scottish Rite for Children. Their shared experience created a unique bond, ultimately allowing Ashley to support Lyla in ways she hoped she would never need to.
Lyla's two younger sisters are also Scottish Rite patients, making it truly a family affair. With mounting medical expenses, the family found a helping hand in Crayon Care, easing their financial burden and allowing them to focus on healing. Despite her challenges, Lyla made it through her treatment stronger and happier as she continues to pursue her passions for acting, reading and singing. Her care at Scottish Rite also inspired a new dream - to become a child life specialist., aiming to help others facing similar challenges. Interestingly, her mom harbored the same aspiration after her own stay at Scottish Rite back in 2004. Like mother, like daughter! #scoliosis #scoliosisawareness #scottishrite
