Haven't had a single issue riding in the rain from the filter. It's not like rain is going to cause my engine to hydro lock or anything, and even if the filter was 100% soaked there isn't enough vacuum to tear apart the filters. The bigger issue is not running a front fender and spraying myself haha

I used to grind off the metal plate behind the filter, seems like it blocks off a lot of air. I like the new airbox on the new Groms, makes more sense than the one it came with in 2014. I'm starting to think I'm going to buy an other Grom instead of the Navi. Bigger tank, no warm-up time, better power, more choices for tires. On of the main mods I'm going to buy for day one is the chain adjuster and a T14 front sprocket.

Also I'm going to buy 2014 OEM wheels, don't like the look of those new ones

Sprockets are on my "soon" list, I'm used to a '67 CT90 adjuster, so even the groms is better than that. That's on my way down the road list.

I think my only problem with this "mod" is the price tag of it. For an airbox cover, $75 is a bit steep for less plastic as compared to purchasing a replacement OEM airbox cover that's like 7 bucks. Will probably do a similar mod but just go with drilling some holes in the stock one for better air flow.

You're not wrong, it's pretty pricey for what it is! I've seen a few folks just drill the stock box, some even put a mesh screen in to keep debris out.

I've got one of these but I did more upgrades and had DHM Retune the chip and i also run the Sprint Air Filter as its cleanable and reusable, HRC uses the same one as well but if your going to stay stock Remove the Plate on the back side! why restrict air flow? I Just installed the Decha Air Tube as well from DHM or TST well..... talk about a sound difference! for exhaust I'm also running the ZOOM no loop exhaust as well! *Go Cougs*

I was looking at the decha tube. I think it’ll get added to the list of mods. I picked up a an aRacer mini x unit last week and am hoping to get a more fine tuned tune put together for my random assortment of mods. At this elevation I feel like I’m running rich with the DHM tine I got. I haven’t seen the sprint air filter, I’ll have to take a look. Go Cougs!!

How would this handle riding off road on some musdy trails?

Ehhh depends? Are you slinging mud up that high? Do you have a fender? I probably wouldn't recommend it.. maybe go for the koso hurricane filter cover where it's still rear facing?

Can you just make extra holes to original cover?

Yeah, you definitely can. There's a guy on hondagrom.net that cut his own hole and glued in mesh screen to keep it stealth-ish.
