Im really pleased they decided to update the bike. I love my 07 and it has waaaay too many miles on it. I dont think it will be underpowered or be anything but an absolute blast. I mean I certainly wasnt going to buy orange or whatever the hell a beta or sherco is trying to be. Everyone acts like they wanted the new drz to be a 450 or 500exc competitor but then if it had been made into that would instantly complain about price and reliability as if power comes from thin air. You get what you pay for ill take a 9k bike with the same bullet proof DRZ E engine.

1 thing I always loved on my Dr and Drz was the way you adjusted the chain with the snail cam... Looks like they've changed that which sux... Oh and no 6th gear is a real shame And hopefully they bring out an E model again like we have had in Oz .. much more fun than an S
@1wheeldrive75119 күн бұрын
There was an E model in the US also, but that was an off-road enduro model that did not come with lights, turn signals, horn, etc. Compared to other offroad models it was pretty heavy, but a lot of people put DS kits on them and got street titles and plates. That is getting harder to do in most US states, and companies like KTM, Husky, Beta, etc. produce better offroad models that come street legal, albeit for a larger price.

Same specs as the CRF450RL except for the 40 lbs difference. For the price, this will steal the market and all the companies will soon follow this bike but not failed CRF450RL!

Crf450RL uncorked makes more HP then this bike but the DRZ has longer time between services intervals and a lower compression ratio. Also the 450RL probably will still have superior suspension though this looks to be decent

The DR-Z4S will need a Rally option. Their primary competition will be the CRF-300 Rally and several 450cc light adventure bikes. Upgrade should include a small fairing and a larger fuel tank (4 gallon minimum). If I had my way, the tank would be 5 gallons.

@enriquejaimes336826 күн бұрын
Lack of 6th gear is irrelevant for a bike like this one. It is not a highway bike and as long as the 5th is long enough it shouldn't matter at all. I don't get why people whines so much about it. If you are gonna spend a lot of time in high gears, this is not the bike for you.
@hakie.23 күн бұрын
Because they had an opportunity to make it a great all rounder bike suitable for longer trips too, especially for those who can't afford multiple bikes and even more so in this economy.
@KeepItSimpleSailor20 күн бұрын
Nonsense on stilts. Most people need to ride on highways to get to the riding they want. And 6th gear is just the standard expectation now.
@1wheeldrive75119 күн бұрын
You completely miss the point of a six speed gear box. Generally, the top gear will have whatever final ratio that the engine can pull on the highway, whether it a 5th or 6th gear doesn’t matter. Likewise, a well designed gearbox on a dual sport bike will have 1st gear ratio low enough for technical offroad terrain. Once you have selected these two ratios, the other three gears should be equally spaced between them. Having only 5 speeds means the rpm jump between gears will be greater than when a 6 speed gearbox is used. In the case of a torquey big bore thumper, that isn’t such a big deal. But this is a little 400cc engine with limited engine torque. Having closer spaced gears would mean being able to select a perfect gear for any on or off road ground speed.

My drz new was 317 lbs, its now 302 lbs with a full tank of gas. There is no way to make the new version lighter than a stock old version, it's going to be heavy. If you want a light weight version of the drz with 6 gears, get a beta 390. I now enjoy both. The new drz is not for me.

If only you and others would come to realize if they didn't make some of these changes the bike would no longer be legal for much of the world markets! Providing what you want and what countries regulatory agencies demand is a balancing act very few people consider. As far as the 6th speed issue (yes I wanted that too), well that would have added even more to the cost of the bike, as that is not so easy of a change as the others without significant price increases due to the engineering requirement.
