Earlier this year I was tempted to buy a KLX 300, then later, a CRF300 Rally. I suspected I'd be disappointed in the lack of power on both compared to my 2002 DRZ that I've owned since 2006. I didn't like the cramped seating position on the KLX. I decided to "wait and see" if a new DRZ comes out. It was a smart decision!

I'm pumped about this! I can understand the arguments for the weight and 6th gear but for us Europeans this bike is going to be a great upgrade from the CRF300L. The old model has not been sold here for ages so we really missed an option in this range. I personally don't care much about 6th gear, will hardly use it as I ride mostly offroad, but the 10Nm and 11hp increases compared to the CRF300 are awesome.

most of us Australians were aware any redesign on the drz would be the end of the E model and knew that would mean a heavier less powerful bike. it's a given that new road/trail bikes get heavier and bogged down with emissions gear to meet new regulations. so when we look at this bike you have to compare it to the s model which was already detuned and heavier than E model so it would meet emissions and regulations of overseas markets. that said the drz4s compares pretty favourably with the s model only being slightly heavier and slightly less powerful. rather than the E model which is significantly lighter and more powerful (13kg, 10hp) that said i do think the drz4s has the potential to make as much or more hp than the stock E model when a tune and exhaust becomes available. because it has the framework there to do so already, 42mm throttle body, bigger ports, bigger cam than s model. as you said the exhaust will be heavy and restrictive so an aftermarket exhaust will remove weight and increase power a lot. it's not all doom and gloom, it keeps the same crank and cylinder as the current drz's so there's a good chance current big bore and stroker kits will work with a drz4s specific piston. the suspension doesn't excite me personally upside down fork are more prone to leaks and damage but buyers are convinced they're better so i can see why suzuki wants to appeal to those people. but at least they didn't cheap out on it. fuel economy and range is supposed to be excellent so it probably only needs a 12l and 20l options rather than 17l and 28l. it's a shame the E model will be gone but 25yrs is a good run and i wouldn't ever be selling mine even if i did buy a drz4s.

So glad there are so many DRZ400's available on resale. Good luck with the new model. Cost of ownership will be 10 times that of a DRZ400. One dose of crap fuel can easily cost you $1000.00 if you repair it yourself. Before you buy fuel injected offroad bike go to parts department at dealer and ask how much for fuel filter and pump. Suzuki has a super reliable injector system but ALL injected bikes can be a huge pain when thing go sideways in remote locations. I own 6 Suzuki motorcycles, one 500 king Quad and a LT500 Quadzilla for the sand dunes. How are you going to get it going if you swamp it out in the middle of nowhere? Long push to town. Carburetors and fuel tanks are easily cleaned with basic tools. True offroad bikers know how to adjust suspension and tire pressure on a DRZ400 so there is 0 excuse for whining about a soft suspension. Instructions in owner's manual. I do not need nor will ever use ABS. Driving mode ?? I am not on some big pig of a bike like a 1200cc tank that you need a party of 5 to go adventure riding with. My driving mode is called a throttle, and I have all the scars to remind me of the years it took to hone my skills. Adventure dual sport to me is one person one machine. I want RELIABULTY not a bunch of sissified crap. 6 speed gear box is not going to make you a better rider...period. The new 2025 Z4S looks awesome and has many nice improvements. Smaller fuel tank than 400E that's a good thing, isn't it ? I would buy if Suzuki had options like a Smart Carb and Extended range fuel tank. Totally pissed (and presently pissed) that a sixth gear wasn't added. I consider my 2005 model (only owner) a whale in the dirt and would have liked a blubber reduction since I am gaining weight as I age. So darn, but still may sell my tricked out cherry version for a new one anyway, since my bike is reliable and really happy they dissed the carb.

Honestly, everything sounds good about this bike except the weight. How hard is it to get a DS bike under 400cc's to weigh less than 130kg? Despite everyone complaining about various things about this bike, I think it's going to be hard to find one next year. I'm glad I waited for this to come out.

"6th gear" It isn't a highway bike! It isn't an adventure bike. It is also very cheap. R&D and improvements for the sake of improvements is expensive. This bike was refreshed to meet emissions standards, not to improve the machine. Be happy you get the improvements that they did make.
@smokemagnet19 күн бұрын
Not having a 6th gear is a truly deal breaker for me. I have a DRZ E and that was what I most wanted in a new model. How they missed out that 6th upgrade, for me, it's just baffling... Also, that smaller fuel tank, is quite ridiculous. At least they could have kept it a 10 liter tank (which was already quite small)... The rest of the upgrades, are just the today's standard, although I'm not very keen on too many electronics, but it's fine...

I don't get Suzuki sometimes... all this stuff bringing it closer to the V-strom 250SX, getting things the 250SX Needs (like the switchable ABS, but not being as easy to ride on the highway or in twisties. Is Suzuki planning on giving the V-strom a 400 or preferably a 450Ptwin, and switchable ABS so it can be a better candidate for entry level ADVers than the 250SX and the V-strom 650? because If there one thing V-strom owners want, it's a direct competitor to the KTM, the CF moto and now BMW 450 ish ADV bikes. not something that's too incapable or too big and heavy to start on!

Well, if anyone’s like me, I just buy the bike just for the bush that’s it. I don’t wanna spend any time on the road except for riding from my place to the bush. Simple as that I think the Cadillac converter is putting a lot of weight on the bike and my only concern is what happens when you take it off and put a performance pipe on you know you’ll have to get it re-tuned or whatever they do to the fuel injection stuff I prefer the carbie,you can push up then if the battery goes flat I don’t know. Bugger all about the fuel injection because I’m from the old generation so I don’t know if you can push Star then but I don’t think you can because I know my car is useless once the battery goes flat but yeah, the price is gonna be the big selling point. It was all the crap they’ve put on it. It’s gonna have to go up the way. I look at it less things on a bike. The less things can go wrong and that’s why the old Suzuki DRZ has been around for so long because it’s basic and simple. Just how I like it. It’s a pity they took the D6 50 off the roadbut what can you do?

Its competition is crf300, klx, and the new ktm 390 adv and enduro. Crf 450 and ktm 500 are in a league of their own, maximum performance with short service intervals.

IF the new KTM 390 is reliable, then it's gonna eat the DRZ's lunch. 45 hp vs 38. 6 speed vs. 5 speed. Looks way better. The only question is the reliability.

No 6th gear is a major fail in my opinion. almost 20 extra lbs is bogus, they made no effort to make this bike lighter, just added components. So......Japanese. I'm sure they'll sell a bunch, but it just lacks that ethos that the Euro's have, and that's a bit of courage. Bold new plastics, 10 KG heavier and still a 5 speed, which everyone says is fine, until you use a 6 speed. I'd say it only has fuel injection so it can scrape through emissions testing. Reminds of the "All new" KLR of a few years ago, promised a bit, and fell flat. 2 out of 5 stars........
