Its funny how after all that fine work, its the signature that gets me. Well, I am an engraving/inlaying junkie, so I guess it's expected.

Your chisel control is just mesmerising. I’m sure large part is you choosing and caring for your tools, but your experience really shows. Thank you for sharing again.

I have felt fairly confident in my ability to make a reasonable go at every step until now. The thought of trying to sign my work like this is terrifying

There's a tutorial on making the chisel in the library and then lots of practice. Nothing is easy or perfect first time.

Honestly, it's a frightening concept for me as well since I've never used such a technique before. However, you should never let fear dictate your life. Take the next step, practice on scrap material to hone your skill and become the best artist that is within you. Worst case scenario is you just have to smelt down your learning experiences and re cast new test peices so you can keep on studying.

In which video do you discuss making the scraper? I've built the punches but have not seen scraper information

Mr Ford, thanks again for such precious information and for your kindness giving us some of your time. If you don't mind answering a question, I'm always anxious when hammering sekigane, particularly when the tsuba has a patina already. How would you attach those without messing up the patina or the finish? In addition, how to remove excess height from the plugs, also without damaging the patina? Thanks in advance, Lucas Calado

Hi ford. Is there any close up pictures of the tagane used in the mei process.
@FordHallam4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jibril, it's a kata-kiri chisel. We did a film on the making of one a while ago. Also, there are some close up images of a slightly modified version I actually use on facebook.

@@FordHallam Haha well yes of course. I'm just pointing out that one sort of feel cheated after watching a video about a specific process, to not see the end result of that process in the same video.

Yappaii, things got very quiet when it came to the sumi and chiseling. Not something you wanna talk through. I was taught that sumi o suru is calming meditative preparation is it that way for you ?
