The Wing Chun training stance (as shown in the Siu Lim Tao demo) is not one that would be used in a real situation. It's used merely for training the legs. In a forward stance (the stance you're more likely to use), the back leg is one that looks like the training stance. As the stance is 70% weighted on the back leg, kicking the front leg will not compromise balance. Sorry for my poor description. If you can find a video of wing chun forward stance, it would help you to understand :)

Good question plasboy. After a decade of "practical" ma, practitioners often go for this type of refined advanced training. I've never previously seen or heard of this man but he is a master, notice how he only uses as much strength as is needed, and generates force from within. No, this isn't particularly effective in a fight unless someone tells you the principles, but if you can already fight, this is a smart way to train power.

One of the reasons Sigung doesn't like being posted on social sites such as this is the lack of understanding of the concepts. He has a very benevolent view point but is not interested in wasting his time people who have a low skill level and understanding. His is the most highly skilled Master who does not call himself Sigung, this has been conferred by others out of respect for his high level of ability and development of the internal side of the system.

In my opinion Tsui Shong Tin's specialty and main focus is on power generation and force vectors. He will take a fully resisting person and push and pull them in any fashion he wants. Im not talking about you push I pull type stuff. I mean if you are blocking he will punch through and your arm will collapse under the pressure.

@jwhitenstall Let me elaborate this. I've learned 3 to 4 kinds of Wing Chun. The way he positioned the punch, etc - is the most accurate due to natural instinct to express the strokes for a human body (if we were to protect & attack centerline). There are many 'masters' out there who had corrupted the forms. The side-effects are:scattered chi, tightness of muscle along spine, shoulders & neck. In summary,in this era, TST might be the only one who knows proper alignment for Wing Chun system.

Interesting little idea form, thankyou. With regards his centre gaurd being 'low', if he is a tall man, fighting shorter opponents, then his gaurd hand is at the optimal angle. Peace.

may not look too interesting brains05, but damn this guy's good! ShivaHK do you have the video of his stance while he stands on the scales at the 1st vt world conference? i study with one of his students, a tiny man, and his energy is enough to throw me (a big guy with a few years training) around the room, SO easily. apparently chu shong tin does the same to him. awesome.

best form I see on the net. This form should be done slower but I think because of video taping he speed it up. He doing slow to gather energy internally. This to exercise the chi, not because so he can pick up the form easily. Wing Chun form is not pre-arrange kata. It's use for perfecting each technique so you can apply to chi sao application. I wish one day I have a chance to train with him or even met him would be an honor.

Yes. By moving with a determind focus and by paying attention to proper breathing, it is thought that one can cultivate Ch'i. This practice began to originate With Bodhidarma in the Shaolin Temple in 520 A.D. It was later developed further by Taoism. This led to the creation of T'ai Ch'i Chuan.

This is the subconcious control of your muscles controlled by a concious command. In other words you train muscle memory which is then triggered through focus. It is hard to explain, but surprising when you see it demonstrated, because it produces strength you don't know you had - sort of similar to the way sleep-walking people are very strong - the subconcious knows how to control your muscles better than the concious does!

@jomushin7 They might come from Yip Man, but the reason why Yip Man allowed them to explore was because it can't be taught mechanically. And those who misinterpreted it, impart that 'mechanical' instruction to their followers. And they thought able to hit = I have mastered Wing Chun. Anyway, I'm glad tat u'd that enlightenment too, at least u stopped hurting ur body with the improper forms. Hope to discuss more with u in future.

@jomushin7 Hi, ur from Wing Tsun? It's ok, ur kind, we're just exchanging opinions, no worries. The research of Wing Chun tat I'm doing's beyond contemporary artists' understanding. I felt something wrong with W.C. tats why I had learned from many lineages. Corrupted Wing Chun has side-effect on us which leads to Body-Deformation along the spine & neck..Many chose to ignore unless they learn Yoga to feel the proper alignment of body.By right, all arts should result in same body-alignment.

Wing Chun forms aren't known for they're dazzling moves. I don't know how true it is but I'm told that the forms are considered by many Chinese to be an 'ugly'. The beauty in Wing Chun for me is it's simplicity and use of economical movements.

pompeyfcgod, you might be right - it's so hard to tell when you see another's style! My opinion though, is that you are wrong. I have studied with Chu Shong Tin's European representative, and he explained to me this relaxed approach. He performs thr form in this way to practice 'nim lik', which translates as 'mind/intent force'.

I guess a lot of people don't realize that Wing Chun, like most Gung-fu in it's original form, is VERY chi-oriented. Tense, rapid-firing boxing is fun to watch, but it's not the way it started. Relaxed, concentrated, touch sensitive Wing Chun is how it was. After all, it was (according to most historical records) a style developed by a woman to defend against larger opponents, not a brute boxing sport.

Thats just it though to be WingChun The MARTIAL ART You have to pass the only prerequisite which is to Fight, So you can say all you want that the people i showed you in the video clip arent real wingchun and maybe you are right if wingchun was originally a DANCE then known as a martial art later, That would make "REAL WINGCHUN" a dance and the "MARTIAL ART WINGCHUN" would have to be the fighting art.

I do this style of Wing Chun, but you're right looking closer at the video is not going to help your understanding. Its really just a mental exercise. You need to know what to feel and how to direct your mental focus in order for it to be of any value. Just looking at the movements is not going to teach you anything.

@jomushin7 Hi, ur partially right. But definitely wrong about there's proper techniques to do wing chun. If only I could meet you, I would prove you. I have convinced existing Wing Chun students from other schools with my research and they agreed to my findings and some eventually quit from their schools. The understanding tat u've is external knowledge (stroke). Real martial art is about totality. U've to feel every bit of muscle,chi,position,sensation,etc.. U may read my blog to know more.
