Super fun stream today. Thanks for walking us all around and talking about the history about the market.

I’m glad you could join us! I’ll visit (revisit) more places - it seems so different with tourism back and the result: so many new businesses and ideas! My city is not the same as 2019!

John, one of the best things about your videos is when you encounter people who follow you *(usually). It demonstrates your connexion [sic] with the world.

Isn’t life more fun with people in it? So are the streams! You know, I started this channel because I was backpacking, hitchhiking alone - often for hours and this was a way to share the experience. The whole channel is meant to share so it’s fabulous to meet new people esp after the last few years of sort-of solitude.

Hi John. Missed this live but just watched the replay and places like this are what's making me long to get back to Japan. Been wanting to try that famous burn the roof of your mouth takoyaki shop. Haha. Great livestream! Thank you for showing us how crazy crowded it is there.
This reminds me of the streets back in Malaysia with markets that look like this. You can buy so many wonderful things, snacks, and delicious food, I love your impression of the trolls. 😂 Yup. That is exactly how they sound. Hahahaha! I think I prefer this Market better than the other one. Ameyoko is getting on my bucket list. One day, John. One day I will visit this place. I will be skipping the bug vending machine. Even if it is free. 😱Itadakimasu. Woo! Arizona Represent!!! 🥰😍❤ Aww. You made the day of the $1000 candy place and Mr. Shimurasan (spelling?). That was so much fun! Sugoi!!! 🎉 Congratulations to the newlyweds and hola to the gentleman from Mexico.

That's very cool that the one guy that met up with you stayed at that little train station hotel in Koyashita. That's one of my favorite streams John did during the pandemic, that place looks worth visiting!

Thanks so much, John. I'll be in Japan later this year (for the first time) and I'll definitely check this out. Do you (or any other viewers) have recommendations for a place I should go to get a good, reasonably priced, Japanese chef's knife?

I visited Ameyoko while I was in Tokyo for business last month. I was shocked by how crowded the market was. The food variety was amazing and basically everything was delicious. It felt like a Disneyland for street food. I didn't have time to visit Tsukiji, but so many people recommended it to me. Definitely will visit Tsukiji if I ever have the chance to visit Japan again.
@onlyinjapanGO Жыл бұрын
It’s a good contrast between the two markets I think. Ameyoko wins but who knows what Tsukiji will come up with. The neighborhood has evolved so fast!

i didn't try much of the food at ameyoko but i've actually heard (mainly on /r/japantravel) that it's disappointing. i went to ameyoko for the shopping and thought it was awesome. the americaya stores and a denim store called Hinoya One (40:42) were my standouts

Do you have any videos hanging out in the countryside or nature aspects in Japan?

A ton of them on this channel since 2017 - you'll have to scout the archives. When I travel for the main channel episodes, I often do live streams to show longer form versions.

That was a fun livestream made so by the way you incorporated a supporting cast of varied personalities all sharing the market experience. Watching the 1,000 Yen Candy Bag being filled by Shimuda San's animated assistant rivaled the fish throwing at Seattle's Pike Street Market. By the way this current 108 Vending Machines Park postcard already arrived here in Alaska earlier this week -Thanks. With our scheduled return to Japan this summer in August that was great news about the Yen exchange rate moving up to 143 Yen to the Dollar. Looking forward to your promised next livestream on that topic. Looks like we will be able to justify moving up to Wagyu on a stick for the anticipated street food experience. 🙂

Is it asak-sa or a-sa-kusa?
@onlyinjapanGO Жыл бұрын
It can be both, in English it is A-sa-ku-sa. If you want to try to be a local, say it the other way. In the end, it doesn't matter. no foreign tourist says Tokyo correctly and those people correct me on how to say Asakusa. Don't worry about it.
