I just love these "market walks".....bargains to be had all over, I'd spend half my time here going from stall to stall. Supporting all the small family shops. Thankyou again John for taking us all with you.

I laughed when John stated at the end about how easy it is to navigate Tokyo, probably because I have an awful sense of direction. I still remember what it was like to visit Tokyo before smart phones and Google Maps. When I visited in 2007 it took me almost an hour to find my hotel after I exited Awajicho station because I couldn't figure out where I was using the map I printed out. And like a dufus I printed out my map only in English and the locals weren't able to read my map. Although there was a very nice desk clerk at a hotel who walked with me for 15 minutes to try and help me find my hotel.

@joy12division3 жыл бұрын
If you only had a map of tokyo that had romanji it would be ok. A lot of major cities are very even blocks which makes it easier to navigate. I also like how most japanese major cities have some sorts of very visible landmarks to verify you are going the right way. Parks, rivers, shrines, etc.

Questions 1.What type of camera do you use to livestream this videos? 2.What is the Japanese view of when you film in stores? 3 Why is Japanese Street food/Resturang food so cheap..For example here in Sweden your average burger meal cost 13$, while it seems like you can get the same thing for 7$.

Really fun episode, John -- although you've done Ameyoko before, it was just hilarious to see you interact with Shimura -san again (good to see he's still there!) and love seeing your face when you put the takoyaki in your mouth. Saw that one coming! It was a great way for me to spend an hour on a Sunday morning. When I come back to Japan with folks from the Denver Takayama Sister City Committee, I'm going to bring the group through Ameyoko and will tell Shimura-san everyone is there because John Daub introduce them to his shop.
