This is something I'm passionate about. If I'm dedicating my time & efforts towards a game that is supposed to be competitive, I want the maker's of that game to uphold that competitive integrity. Today, we got our first step towards that.

Coaching to me is ok for fast paced; fighting games is the perfect example. Street Fighter, Super Smash Brothers these are ok. Because as the player you are adjusting in real time. And just because you adjust in real time does not mean you will have any real edge because as you play, you try to keep what was said to you in your mind but a lot of competitive fighting are players doing things instinctually. Coaching in the sense of E7; is stat based and turn based. A coach can possibly estimate the characters speed, def, pay attention closely to health etc and use that knowledge while looking up match making statistics. One case of gameplay is almost purely instinctual, the other is not. 2. Piloting - Hard no. HARD NO. As the player you should be making the hard decisions. Not someone else. 3. Fast Win Meta - I think this is stupid but overall doesnt really matter for ladder. Doesnt work for brackets (obviously) 4. Gatekeeping - Again stupid but overall doesn't matter for the majority of players. As a player, you should've planned accordingly so you don't lose your spot. However, I do like the 10-15 minute grace period post cut-off time.

I agree with everything here. But if you want to look at win fast and gate keeping not only do you need to do for rta but I know back in the day it was even worst in arena

I agree with you on coaching. Fast/gatekeeping I REALLY don't like, but it's also hard to track. That's the issue with top level, you end up facing the same 100 people, of course you'll recognize names at that point. The player hiding should help this, but the persistent will find ways. TBH I think the best answer is to make "ladder" an actual sports mode. I. E. Limiting how many games count. So you limit many matches count towards ladder a day/a week. You can make it the first X matches a period, or you can randomize which matches become "ladder matches" during matchmaking. You can keep normal RTA (it's not like it gives actual rewards lol), but this will reward skilled players who "only" play a few dozen matches a week instead of grinding hundreds (though people grinding will correlate with better drafters). Now piloting: I got a whole rant/hot take there so I'll make it a separate comment.

Now piloting: First, I should mention that *technically*, Account sharing is against the TOS and if you are found out you risk being banned. So tread carefully. THAT said: It's in a similar place for coaching. There are 4 places you'd typically account share for: 1. for come community event like a pulls video. Like those videos or not I don't think anyone is going to give a content creator grief for doing someone else's pulls if that user wants to (unless the user has to pay, but that's another can or worms). No one is really harmed nor is it even competing to begin with unless you really believe some CC's have the magic touch lol. 2. for some coach to re-gear or otherwise organize a user's account (sometimes as a paid service. Gear management sucks in this game and I'm a hoarder lol, so I've considered it). This is definitely more of a gray area, but I don't think most people mind 3. The aforementioned Ladder boosting. I think it's in poor taste and shouldn't be allowed, but it's another issue that's really hard to enforce. I don't really have a solution either. 4. Then finally, there's grinding on the account. Most of my hot takes will come based on this point. Especially since this ties into another accusation of cheating from a previous champion Now, in theory, I really don't like other people playing on another person's account. It's impersonation, they gain progress they don't deserve, and progress pass other honest players playing their own stuff. It's not fair. BUT, progress in E7 once you reach endgame is a crapshoot anyway. I can log on right now, do 3 wyvern runs, craft a ring, get perfect subs, and roll 24 SPD in a matter of 3 minutes. Those 3 minutes can get me better gear than Brother Stone's team of 24/7 grinders over the past 3 years. There is no rhyme nor reason to "progress" in E7, you are rolling the dice tens, hundreds of thousands, millions of time hoping for a jackpot. Progression is never guarateed, and rarely rewarded at some point. But macros are banned, and SG has historically been very hard on obvious macro abuse. If the next easiest way to discretely grind is to have other people play your account, then that's what top players will do. especially now that money is on the line. And TBH, SG has negative incentive to stop them. Someone grinding 24/7 is probably chugging every lief pack and then a bunch of skystone purchases just to keep that up, because stamina is a limited resource without paying. You cannot grind 24/7 otherwise. So I can't really bring myself to care about a factor like grinding, in a game that actively monetizes the grind. and pouring time into labor for a game that does not respect your time. We need to rethink gear progression before we start punishing people for abusing it.

Cheating should definitely be punished, and prevented as much as possible But honestly As a Senya lover, it makes me kinda sad to think we may not get her now because of this :c

I'm horribly disappointed because it happened, and it tarnishes E7's reputation a bit, which can seed doubt for potential investors. On the plus side, it gives E7 a chance to show integrity, and in these cases, it's even better PR for them since they are taking responsibility. It's like the psychological effect that "customers tend to be more satisfied with a broken product that the company properly fixed."

So I feel that: 1. Coaching is a perfectly acceptable practice for non competitive games. It offers someone insight, and helps one learn outside of their blindspots when they themselves may not be able to. Asking for help to improve YOUR skills is A-okay, because YOU are still doing all the work, and attempting to improve. 2. Piloting: is an absolute no, and like you say, you're shortcutting skill and the legitimacy of the game, and cutting off others who earned the place they hold. 3. Fast win/inting: is a huge problem. Similar to piloting issues, you're cutting actual hard working players from earning a place they actually deserve. 4. Gatekeeping/Roping: as a victim of this practice, it is extremely frustrating to be denied a spot because someone is intentionally malicious to you, and should not be allowed. Let our skill determine who the better of us is, and don't waste the time of anyone just because you are salty or have an agenda. It's good to see Margacheat get his ban, and I really hope they can give Poopest the title he earned, because I was a diehard supporter of him during the Championship. Losing because of cheating is an embarrassing stain on the Legacy of E7, and I'm also glad to see SG start to tighten the reins on those who seek to ruin the game experience for others for their benefit.

To me, coaching is okay (ON THE LADDER, NOT IN A TOURNAMENT), sometimes, you just need someone else's opinion in order to learn from your mistakes or to fully comprehend a draft/a character/a counter pick or even just advices from a much experienced person. You still put in the work and effort to learn about what you are doing, even if it is with some help. To me, coaching is like teaching. What is not okay to me, is piloting during the ladder or worse, a tournament. I don't really think it is a big deal that someone uses piloting for things such as hunts, or PVE in general, but as soon as it hits the PVP aspect of a game, it is not okay to me. It is the same when it comes to gatekeeping and the "fast win meta", to me, doing this does not reflect your ability to play the game nor it moral to do, there is no merit at gatekeeping or yielding against someone. Remember please that this is my opinion and that it doesn't invalidate any of yours, so be mindful and respectful :))

Personally I'm not sweating it. It is cheating, but the way it was all carried out made it so easy to get that sort of outside help I assumed most people were doing that and how they chose to split the money with their team was on them. But if they want to legitamize their competition, they just have to do it in person. No excuses, no exceptions. If you make it to the Top 8 they fly you to the arena and you compete in person with your monitor on screen.

Coaching is the only one that should be allowed and ONLY on ladder because that’s where players practice and get good in real time against real opponents. That’s where they learn the game and strats and their accounts. Coaching should not be allowed in tournaments because that is the exam. You don’t get to take an open notebook exam.

I know cheating is bad and everything and I do not condone but shit man if I was in margueritte’s situation I would pay the one helping me. Like common sense, if you don’t do that, don’t expect to get off Scott-free.

No to coaching for all competitive modes - Perma ban for the account for RTA, perma ban the player for tournaments. Competitions are for players to express and showcase individual skill and understanding, getting coached for pve is completely fine and should act as an aid in the competitive environment. No to piloting- perma ban for the account, same reasons as above but no to all facets in game even pve, support smilegate if you want to pay for something Fast win meta- No, 1 day ban - perma account ban for both, rating manipulation is an unfair advantage against all players regardless of rank Gatekeeping- No, smilegate should ban players for a day if 4 or more actions on their side come close to the time limit, auto forfeit for more than 15 seconds of inactivity if possible ban for a day if more than 3 games auto forfeit.

I'm more incensed by the fact he wouldn't pay the guy who helped him a measly $2k of the $50k prize. What an ungrateful cheapskate. Tbf though, he didn't do anything that every E7 streamer in RTA doesn't do on a daily basis. XD Let's not act like it was some grave unspeakable sin.
