I lived on the McKinleyville airport in 1956 to 1959 and I wish I had the time to sit down and telll you what a wonderful strech of sand dunes that and beach that went from the base of the bluff about 150 yards out to the surf kine and from Clam Beach to where the Mad River met the ocean. You had to cross the railroad track at the base and then you were in the sand dunes Huge sand dunes with Pampas grass and gold sparkling in the sand. Those people on the river bank had nothing on us when it came to dangers we put ourselves in playing out there. Loved every minute.

*News flash: Did you know the reason they warn you to stay off the beaches for your safety?! Just because nothing big ever happens in Mack, doesn't mean that mother nature can't unleash its furry at any moment. Considering they evacuated low lying areas in Humboldt and canceled schools in Mack should have been enough to tell you that something serious could happen. It's to let you be prepared so that you can stay safe and not do anything completely stupid like go to the beach with your family.
