Rewatched the series again. For the people left to try to save what was left must have been horrible.

Without these people, Self Defense Forces and Tokyo City Fire Department's Hyper Rescue, northern half of Japan would have gotten unusable by the radiation. Imagine millions of the nations including the Tokyo area would have needed to evacuate to the southern half.. They are the true heroes who rescued the country from catastrophic disaster.
