I was born a Los Angeles Dodgers fan and I just want to say thank you to the city of Montreal. Because of you, the Montreal Royals were a big part of our history not only for Brooklyn but also for the pride and joy of U.C.L.A's own Jackie Robinson... It's time MLB award the city of Montreal an expansion franchise so Canada can bring back the Expo's. I know I'm not the only one that thinks the Designated Hitter is a pussy excuse for pitchers that cant hit. National League baseball belongs in Canada; the Toronto Blue Jays is joke. Quebec, it is time your voices be heard; write, tweet, text and protest your love for your team to come back. Viva Los Expos de Montreal/Viv le Expos du Montreal/Long Live the Montreal Expos!... Even in Los Angeles, we miss you guys!

I'm Canadian and a Minnesota Twins fan. For years, I watched the Expos' struggles from out west. Montreal was cursed by "The Big Owe", but inspite of the terrible edifice, Expos' fans kept coming. If they could latch onto another existing team, line-up good, local ownership and build a fan-friendly ballpark, they could stay in Montreal forever. I'm really heartened by some of the great posts from Americans who say they miss the Expos! I miss them too, so it's worth another try Montreal!

Being a Jays fan, I really hope the Expos are back in the near future. Just not sure whether it'll be through relocation or expansion.

Thanks for the reply. It's somewhat nice to know that MLB acknowledged the Expos (by broadcasting this documentary) despite the fact that they conspired to kill the franchise.

I'm a Mets fan...and I want the Expos back. Montreal deserved better...he's pulling the same thing in Miami now... I'm happy D.C. got a team again (let's face it, the nation's capital should have a team for the national pastime) but it shouldn't have cost Montreal the Expos. But hey--if the Winnipeg Jets can come back again, why not the Montreal Expos? Latch onto the battle cry of we Mets fans... YA GOTTA BELIEVE!

I never found the Big O that bad (saw lots of games from 2001 to 2004). But they got WAY too cute with that roof. No reason at all to make it that complex! Keep it simple!

Les Expos at Jarry Park, at 30,000 fans, it was a full house. At the Big "O", it was looking empty at 30,000 fans. Also at the Jarry Park, the fans were closer to the players, this is why I was able to obtain a bunch of authographs that I still have, it is the book from Metro grocery store from 1970.

Just a question to the lady in this video, from a Jays fan, WHY WOULD YOU WANT THE PHILLIES TO WIN!? The Expos had an insanely good team in 1993 and only missed out on possibly playing the Jays in the WS because of two measely wins. I would have been downright pissed at Philly and cheering heavily against them. They robbed us of a potential All-Canada Series.

A Turner Field type of place was not the mindset in the early 70's. 1. MLB insisted on a dome. 2. Mayor wanted a monument to himself, no matter how costly. 3. Multi-use stadiums were "state-of-the-art" then Saying "...If they had done what atlanta did..." is just revisionist history/second guessing. For the times, the big owe was lauded. I've been there many times and it wasn't the place that was the problem, it was the changing economics of MLB that off'ed the Expos who's players walked out.

"a 55-foot beam fell from the roof onto the field". That never happened. The beam that fell was on the outside of the stadium.

I think it was the CBC who did an excellent documentary about the CON of how the expos lost their franchise. Sad. It really was stolen from them. As a west coast kid I always loved both teams. My dream was always a jays/expos world series and not knowing who to cheer for!

No franchise if not for the Big O, that was the deal. The stadium was a small problem compared to lack of revenue streams and owners after Bronfman got out. Who's gonna pay for a new place? Sorry, but MLB isn't interested in Montreal

Baseball doesn't like fans & Montreal Expos had fans....so they had a strike 1994, which lost a lot of fans & then they moved Montreal to D.C. and lost even more fans

@ KardiFan2000 : Wild card indeed began in 1994. So even if the Braves would have caught up in september of that year, hard to imagine the Expos not getting in the playoffs that year, at least as the wild card team.

Big "owe" was built for the Expos, the franchise would have been placed elsewhere without the promise of a domed stadium. Without the '76 games - no dome.

I just hope that the new MLB commissioner brings back the Montreal Expos in their 50th anniversary of their birth in 2019 (started in 1969). The city of Montreal should learn from Winnipeg and Minnesota on how they brought themselves back in the sports world with better ownership and better people to commit to the team and also the Quebec government who needs to be more considerate on building a downtown ballpark for them.

I read in HOLY COW(Harry Caray) that the day before the first ever Expos game, it was a snowstorm. Then, the opening day hit the 70-degree mark. Should Montreal ever get a baseball team again, they need to rebuild Jarry Park, or build something new altogether. Olympic Stadium won't cut it.

The Expos won't come back, at least not in Montreal. Montreal is in Quebec, mostly filled with French-Canadians and they usually are into hockey, while in Toronto, its more of a mix.

Yeah, I believe she was jealous, because it was Montreal that was there first. But she knew Montreal's time was coming, considering the way the finished the 1993 season. And in 1993, they just ran out time, or they would have caught the Phillies. They won 30 out of their final 39 games to finish just 3 back of the Phils.

It was a good time to be a canadian baseball fan. And even if there had been a big rivalry between the cities of Montréal and Toronto for décades, how could a canadian baseball fan be unhappy or even frustrated about the Blue lays winning 2 world series titles ? Would the Expos' fate been better if the Braves and Phillies would have won the 2 series in 1992 and 1993 ? Give me a break! The lays's front office did their lob by adding key players (Winfield, Molitor, etc.) to that good team and the fans did theirs by filling the Skydome 81 games a year. So congrats to them.

Im a Giants fan, but Montreal got SCREWED by Selig and that asshole Loria and the strike in 94, the Expos had a GREAT shot at going to the World Series that year, the Blue Jays had won back to back World Series the previous 2 yrs! Its not the fans fault!

actually it was built for the olympics more so than the expos. They did have the expos in mind going forward but it was the olympics first and foremost. If they had done what atlanta did and made a ball park that could host olympics it would have been better. Instead they created a olympic stadium that was 'capable' of housing a MLB team.

The Expos were a great low-budget team. They couldn't beat the Jays for the same reason the Yankees win so much. Bigger cities, much more baseball interest, more money, better players, more championships. That's how baseball works. Montreal is a big city but they didn't embrace baseball like other North American cities. That's why they're gone, even after they got a bailout which is why they're not in Buffalo. Can we wind the clock back to 1989?

+Roguemember An Expo is a large exhibition like a convention for even a fair, The Expos got their name back in 1969 by a fan who was on a call in show mentioned that Montreal had just hosted The 1967 World's fair and the franchise called themselves the Expos in honor of Expo 67.

What information do you have to back up your assumption? To be financially successful in MLB corporate backing is more important than the "fan base", ticket sales are now a far smaller percentage of franchise income than in the 70's. What about the 28 other years that the Yanks did outdraw the Expos? All of this noise is based on emotion, not reality. Sorry but no one in MLB is interested in Montreal, or the franchise would still be there.
