Walkthrough of one of my daily welding adventures. Constant velocity drive shaft slip joint for a Sparks Motors SMCO6X6. These incredible trucks take 3 custom built drive shafts to simultaneously power both rear axles, which ‘in turn’ 😏 need to have incredibly straight shafts to keep balance in the drivetrain. Tigging these shafts on a positioner makes for a deep penetrating weld and extremely even heat distortion.

I LOVE WELDING. I can definitely tell. Also LOVE sharing information for those who are learning or wanting to learn more. A couple of good points you noted during the video ?? Post Flow. Is an important factor many overlook, especially when starting out in Tig Welding. Welding on a Positioner. Great way to make Welding that little bit easier. But, Not so easy to get right IF you're just starting out. Especially when your juggling, 2 Foot Pedals at the same time ?? Trying to teach your brain which pedal is which takes a few tries to get right, even more difficult if you're Welding Aluminium. Thanks for the information about Spark Motors SMCO6X6 I was curious what this brand actually meant 👍

That's gravy right there. I agree, it is so hard to get the settings right, since you need to match the turntable to the amp, but when you get those good settings in, it so much fun. I've bearly tried to TIG on rotary, but I did thousends of aluminum endcaps with a wire feeder (actual MIG). Just wish I was helthy at that time, because I enjoyed the work so much. That looks perfect, nice work. I will adopt that way of keeping tungsten handy, that will save me a bunch of time since I probebly spend a minute or two every time I need to find a fresh one on just locating my box.

Outstanding work(as usual)! The subtitles really add to the information you’re providing. Your arc shots might not be the best, but it’s really useful to see the movement of your torch hand and your filler hand. I think that’s almost more important than what the actual arc looks like.

+ a million. Rush, if you'd have a good arc shots, then everything around it will be dark. Then we will not be able to see what Philip here said. I felt like we missed maybe 10% by not seeing the puddle. But that 90% we see, and your comments, are very important.

Good Job 💪💪 I'm making something similar for aerospace industry but we preheat shafts to 300 degree and keep temperature beatwine all welds. After that shaft go to stowes at least 3 hours to 600 degree 😊 100% X-Ray no fail. And we use a "ring" to not make big tack. Material what been used its 30HGSA, it's self hardened steel so we need keep attention. Happy New Year 🎉🎉 P.s. Sorry my English 😊😊

Are you a musician as well? Your timing is impeccable. You would make a fantastic drummer. Using your feet to control not only the speed of rotation of the jig but also amperage of the welder plus the rhythm you maintain with your hands. Great skills1

cool arc shots there at the end, they are always interesting, and often helpful. your filler rod technique allows for a slightly different approach angle to the work. i would like to be able to switch back and forth. i usually feed conventionally, but sometimes have a hard time propping in in a steady position. i always like having options. some practice is in order.

Great video. To get puddle shots all you need is a ND filter and manual control of your video settings (shutter speed and aperture). Google ND filters for your iPhone. Then you adjust camera settings manually so you get a really dark image and when the welding starts it will get much lighter. Adjust until the lighting is correct when you are welding. Try a ND-6 or ND-8 filter. More amps = shorter shutter speed / higher apeture.
@topgunm
@topgunm 4 жыл бұрын
But before buying anything, adjust your manual controlls to max shutter speed, and the highest apeture. Camera settings MUST be in manual mode when doing these kinds of shots. Auto will not work as your phone will adjust thinking the whole image should be correctly exposed. Try it again. If there is still too much light (you can't see the puddle), you will need to buy a ND-filter. You might need to buy a photo app for your iPhone where the shutter speed can be adjusted manually.

I also noticed the larger the tungsten the longer I have to post flow to keep the tip from turning blue and purple, if it is not silver then you need higher post flow for sure. Also making sure you don't swing the torch around fast when the post flow is going because you can introduce oxygen by making fast movements or flipping the torch around like a water hose I always try to think of the torch like a water hose flip it upside down and the argon may not reach the tip

Killer, dude! Couple of questions for you: 1. Do you use the same 'kanegrip' filler feeding technique on every weld or do you change it up based on joint/body position/etc.? And 2. On the root of the outside fillet, it looks like you filled the joint right up to the top edge without getting the serrated or scalloped edge along the top toe. Is that due to the amount of filler you were adding (you were dabbing pretty often), where you were introducing the filler, base metal prep, or is there something else that I'm not thinking of? Doing lap joints, I end up keeping the toe of the bead below the top edge because I haven't been able to find that happy medium between filling it completely but not munching off the edge of the base metal. When I've attempted to add more filler, it seems like the bead just gets all wonky and wander over the top edge rather than just filling the joint.

I noticed you was spinning the yoke on some copper pushed up from the bottom. Guessing it's a ground strap.🤔 Could you put the phone inside a auto darking hood for your weld puddle shots? Nice work you've done. Does the first welded area need turned down to speciation?

There is a lot I can say about his video, not all good. Decent welds, but there is a lot that could have been done different and better. Too many passes for a end joint like that, root pass should have been fusion first if he was worried about penetration, pre heat the piece depending on material. All in all not bad. Practice practice practice. That’s what make a good welder. And really there’s no wrong way to weld, except shitty welds.

Rush... I think it's time you take your Instagram clout to one of the wedding companies who manufacture those HD cameras for what you're doing and throw give them an opportunity to let you endorse their products with a free review unit ... Contact them all, they will send you one! Forget a welding expo, they'll have far more eyes on your perfect weld deposition rates than any expo could deliver! Get a nice portfolio of your work to your appearances at places like Weld.com together and send them out. You'll have every company throwing a camera at you... That is how you would do it, if you want to use their gear and simply have to say it was captured by *"X product."* It gives them a route to show a constant source of demos using their newest capture systems en masse!

In a previous video i asked you if you ever free hand, especially on aluminum; but I was just curious about, i mean, I didn't say anything about the fact that positioner work is easy(/ier), also because as you said it's not easy at all to achieve a very good result using it. I barely use it at work and tbh, i generally prefer to weld with the piece on the vise and i turn over it, it's a lot easier for me. Edit. I frogot to mention... Happy new year, best luck for 2020✌🏻
