Table Tennis has abandoned the concept of a legal serve. Maybe the time has come to abandon the ITTF.

What does ittf have to do with this lmaoo
@MrBenjo20008 күн бұрын
@@carrementmec6772 The rules are not super clear. That is the problem. Another problem is, that following the rules can't be fully determined. In the ITTF the main service rules for the toss are: The ball must be tossed at least 16 cm high from the open palm of the hand with as little rotation as possible and vertical to the best ability of the player. The ball toss must not deviate more than 15 degrees. The ball has to be visible to the recieving player the entire time. The ball contact on the racket has to be fully visible for the opponent. The ball has to be tossed and contacted behind the baseline of the table. The referees don't have the same perspective as the players who recieve the service. They just can't determine accurately if the rules are followed. From the side it is very hard to see how much the ball toss deviates from a straight vertical line. The referee can't also determine accurately if the ball and the contact of the ball was fully visible to the recieving player. Anders Lind, a world class Danish player, did a video about that with a very nice explanation and showcasing the difficulties and problems. A lot of pro players, especially Chinese, hide their serve or serve over the table. Wang Chuquin does a lot of serves over the base line and not behind it. Lin Shidong hides his shovel serve a lot. He got faulted during a match vs. TImo Boll for that. Timo even shouted at the referee "Come on it's so wrong!". It's a main problem and the ITTF should change the rules so they can be accurately judged from the referees. This would benefit all players. I am not trying to be a smartass, just trying to explaing what the ITTF role is in this whole thing. Please don't feel attacked, that is not my intention. Merry Christmas! :)

you are in no position to judge the legality of a serve watching a video on youtube.

@@Christian-dx2ie no?? Watch the 8:57 serve, put it 0.25. He just throws the ball to the height of his head.

What was Referee Problem with Alexis serve? Flat Hand? Are they serious? Wetzels serve was more illegal as he hide every serve. Alexis pulled Hand away everytime.

Alexis serve toss is backwards which is why he has been faulted in recent times. Toss needs to be a bit more vertical, not sure why he doesn't change it as he has been pulled up on it a few times now. Umpire is just doing his job and is absolutely spot on here.

the serve has to be vertical (

Problem with the judging - like always - is consistency though. Just look at the first two points of the fourth set. Ball throw is pretty much the same, one is faulted, one is not. It's just completely random and as a player that would fuck me up as well.
@TTDPocketRocket7 күн бұрын
@@TobiB89 the umpire faulted 2 serves and did well. This should be enough for a pro player to start serving properly. Alexis kept serving illegally, what should the umpire do? Keep faulting him and ruin the match? Personally I think the umpire should have kept warning him that his toss is no good and fault him at crucial points.
