TTArtisan 27mm f2.8 Autofocus - For FUJIFILM

If you're looking for a fantastic autofocus lens for your Fujifilm X Camera, check out this video.
With an equivalent focal length on full frame of 40mm it has one of my favourite focal lengths. Snappy autofocus makes it a breeze to shoot, and its manual aperture and focus rings lend the feel of a classic lens too.
I was intrigued to shoot this little lens and it didn't disappoint - it's not perfect of course but it's very likeable, and it makes fantastic images too.

old manual lenses and modern auto lenses both have there place in my bag. old lenses for the mood and soul, the auto lenses for capturing a situation that chances in a fast movement.. i use both for street and people, its like have 2 children, being very diffent to each other.. you love them both for everything they are. same with my lenses... for the sony fullframe i go for the smallest, and still also fantastic lenses, the tiny 28 f 2 sony fe. and the also small sony zeiss sonnar 55 1.8, it fast, silent, razor sharp, and better be,,, when having the sonnar name

I am in the same boat, usually shooting with old manual lenses but have been on a B&H waiting list for the Fujifilm 27mm with aperture ring for over a year because I would like to have a 40mm equivalent with autofocus. It would seem that TTArtisan did their market research. I was not yet aware of this new product, thanks for reviewing it.

I’d be over the moon if their next AF lens was a 40mm f/2 lens which really leaned into the swirling of a vintage Biotar design, but with all the modern conveniences.

I'm considering buying this lens for my Fujifilm xt30. The Fujifilm 27mm is just too expensive for what it is. However, the main concern I have with the TTArtisan is the flaring and drop in contrast against bright light sources. Do you think a filter or third party lens hood would sufficiently elevate this problem?

I was wondering if you'd done a side-by-side with the Fuji 27mm. I have the original and now there is an update. I'm on the fence about buying the new one. I took a 40mm f/1.8 Konica out for a spin on the Sony A7S ii last week. I do like the 40mm focal length and the Konica is a solid lens. If you can find one, I'd recommend it. You do have style, sir.

Very nice video, Nigel, loved the childrens TV beginning! Interesting to see that swirly bokeh on a new AF 27mm lens, I didn't expect that. My favourite AF 28mm lens, is the Canon EF 28mm 2.8, it covers full frame, no noticeable vignetting, very little flaring, and really nice colors. It often live on my Canon 5d mark ii, just now it's replaced by a Helios 44!

Great overview! New to photography and not sold on the "drunk" bokeh swirl, but it's growing on me. The textured lens flare is horrible, though. BUT, given the price point, and (un)availability of the Fujinon 27mm I'm tempted to take a punt. Given the choice between a used Fujinon or a new TTArtisans, what would you go for? I have an X-T20 if that's relevant :)

Can you test this lens on an XPro body to see whether the hybrid range finder works?

It works fairly well. If framing is really critical, it’ll be worth switching to the EVF, but I’d say that about my Fuji 35WR. It’s accurate enough for me at both distance and close focus, but someone else might have a different experience. That said, I usually EVF with it, since I love the swirls this lens can produce, and the preview gives me a better sense of when the conditions are right for it. Also, the “titanium” color is a bit too dark to match the Dura Silver. Might be good with the Dura Black, but I kinda wish I just got the black color lens. -e: I’ll add: the hybrid ovf works OK on my Tamron 18-300, with the caveat that the lens blocks a lot of the frame, for the lower part of the zoom range, but it ceases to work after about 140mm or so. In comparison, the TTArtisans 27 is a lot better.

@@sclogse1 I just could not tell which XT model it was. It does make a huge difference because as of today, there are no third-party lenses that are optimized for the new 40mp sensor. Even on the Fuji line, only a handful of lenses are optimized for the 40mp sensor. Firmware updates on a lens does not do the trick either. The lens needs to be created from scratch giving consideration of the 40mp sensor. Out of all my X-Mount lenses that I have (over 20), very few take advantage of my 40mp sensor on my X-H2 camera.
