I'm just as convinced as you are about this lens, I've had the GFX 100II from the start, bomb. There is no lens that can be compared, and the weight is in a class of its own. I'm from Germany, sorry for my translator. Thanks again.

Alles klar, kein problem! yes, the lens is one of those surprisingly well performing "cheap" lenses IMO based on old German glass, I wish I could find more info on the origins. obviously these new ones are updated and improved but the general overall look is still vintage and organic to me. just (mostly) without the obvious flaws of actual older glass.

interesting, great to hear, I will look into that brand, do they have GFX mount lenses? I guess I could always try adapters. great to have so many options now!

Have this lens which is sharp love this lens is all about use fast shutter speed for sharp photos
@paulschefz

yes! getting to use those super fast shutter speeds is definitely a factor for producing sharp images! I have had to dial my iso down a bit here in sunny CA!

Thanks for this...way too much CA for my taste. As a pro, I don't have the time to focus manually, thus why I prefer using my Fuji 80mm f/1.7 instead.

completely different lens, for commercial work or any kind of fast shooting these lenses are not the right choice. all these 3rd party lenses have some "character" (flaws,...whatever you want to call it) they are not perfect like the GF glass and in a way that is the point. I am surprised how well they behave once stopped down, a lot of these new releases are optically surprisingly good better? then old adapted glass but of course with that as well most people are looking for flaws and character to add "something" to their photography. or just use GF glass and add flaws (dehancer,...) in post!

It's a very soft lense, there is a lot of ghosting at PO, and I found the bokeh a little bit nervous
@paulschefz
@paulschefz 4 ай бұрын
definitely not a perfect lens, definitely lots of ghosting wide open but I am still happy with the sharpness and the bokeh might not be completely smooth but has character, which is really what these lenses are about anyway?

I purchased a GFX 100s at B&H in New York City on August 2021. I have installed recently the latest firmware version (2.12) and I encountered that the front wheel has stopped working. I use my camera always in mode "M", using both the front and back wheel to change aperture & shutter speed. I have noticed that the front wheel has stopped changing any value: "aperture", "s.s." and/or "ISO" (no matter each of which is selected on the menu). In addition, the aperture is not changed despite the GF lens is set the aperture ring to "C" and/or "A". The front wheel does not work no matter I select "M", "A" or any other shooting modes. Only the aperture is changed by the back wheel on "P" mode. Is there any chance to downgrade the firmware version to 2.11, so that to see if the front wheel comes back to work properly, or any other option available?. Any piece of advise would be much appreciated.

hmmm...does not sound good, I am on 2.12 and havent noticed this, as far as rolling back, I am not sure either, havent had to do it so far (I used to save all firmware versions to have on hand since they remove them once the new ones come out) fuji phone support (they have a prompt just for GFX) is always available and usually very helpful. your case sounds like a software issue? I would call and talk to them, warranty only comes in if there is an actual repair, they will take your call. good luck, keep us updated!

@@strippedlist I guess I misunderstood but for me ( at least my sample) sharpness is exactly where I would want it. And the files sharpen easily and well in post if I need some selective sharpen.

Not my taste. You can not share this kind of photo in a high fashion magazine. they are too much wide open
@paulschefz
@paulschefz 4 ай бұрын
thank you for your input! this was for a high end fashion magazine and funny enough I usually never shoot wide open, it usually is too much of a "look" for me, in this case that is what we wanted.

How does it compare to the Mitakon 80mm 1.6?
@paulschefz
@paulschefz 4 ай бұрын
I can't tell since I don't have that lens. what is interesting to me and why I compared it to the AstrHori 75 f4 is that both lenses show similar issues/drawbacks/flaws wide open, which is obviously at different f stops (f1.25 vs f2.5, the "secret" wide open for the 75mm) Maybe the mikaton behaves in a similar way? Lots of character (flaws) wide open, solid once stopped down?

Man sieht es sehr deutlich, die Vignette ist zu stark, schade werde es mir nicht kaufen.
@paulschefz
@paulschefz 2 ай бұрын
Definitely a lens with “character” which makes it fun (in a way) the vignette is easily fixed but that is not what this is about, the Fuji GF solutions are completely different animals and AF obviously makes the entire process of working with them a very different experience. I am happy these companies keep releasing high quality options at low price. I would still consider this lens a good option, just not for every job.
