You know what I think is the absolute most impressive thing about this series, even moreso than the absolutely amazing and flawless sense for visual storytelling and atmosphere that makes the creator look like a cinematic animation genius? The way it doesn't take a black-and-white, us-vs-them approach to the issues it covers. The ultimate message is that the love between individuals is far more important than whatever ideological conflict might surround it; that you should fight bigotry for the happiness of individuals, not for the sake of "scoring one for the team". Imagine some IN-YOUR-FACE Tumblr animator attempting this same premise; given the state of progressive politics in the west right now, it would likely be a complete and utter mess. Instead, not only does this series focus on the personal above the political, it specifically makes the point that you shouldn't over-politicize things to the point where you dehumanize the people you're fighting for. It's not just preaching to the choir and it encourages introspection among activists. This series is literally perfect. There is nothing wrong with it at all; the visuals are simple yet amazing in how effective and emotionally investing they are and the story & thematic content are utterly flawless.

Man, coming back to this, it's crazy to think about how clearly this video portrays the story, without even saying a word. Even without any words spoken or any inner thoughts told, you *know* Nabi distances himself from Doki because he wants to protect her and keep her safe. You can SEE his internal thought process so clearly, and the image of Doki being beaten while maintaining a smile sticks out so much in the audience's minds. In his eyes, he's terrified that staying close with her is hurting her in the long run.

What I see in 2:54 aftermath of Nabi's visit to Doki, His mind is thinking that he could've been there to protect her and that Cats cannot protect bunnies/rabbits, His scarf turned to black resembling that he is suffering from temporary depression. Meaning that he loved doki since day 1 and the first date, but after seeing Doki hurt, his mind and heart broke into many pieces, leading him to break up with Doki for her safety, Doki understands this and decides to go to the place called "Paradise", a place where different species love each other with no fear or sides, at least that's what I think. Good job!! This was always my favorite series!! You inspire me to make a series based on this!!

The thing is, I feel weird about this particular remaster. The dark blue background you guys used at 1:09 kinda' conflicts with the original. Later you have a similar red sky. Obviously, that reflects anger. But...In the original, they were black and white. In fact, everything was black and white EXCEPT for the important symbols (scarf/sign/bow/ticket etc.) It reflected the emotional state of the characters and the oppressive starkness of the yellow signs that were more overpowering than the characters' will. It sort of ruins the effect to *not* stay consistent with that. Having the sky as another element change is unnecessary. Otherwise, good work.

That was the hardest part of directing this episode for me. I can't watch movies based on accidents that I've been involved in myself, too. Conveying the pain but not hurting, feeling the sadness but not being sad... I think it's an eternal challenge for directors.

I don't mean to sound pretentious, or like I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about, but I think we can all learn from these. Violence is almost always, the WRONG answer. So many people ignore this because they refuse to try to see things from a different perspective before turning their nose up in disgust. I am terrified, of fursuiting in public because, even though doing it in private or around friends is fine, I will always fear what others are thinking of me, and if they're just going to quickly judge me without looking at the world through my eyes. It may not be a very GOOD example, but its the best I had. Its the fact that things that are taboo are IMMEDIATELY shutdown, shunned upon, or ignored irrationally in THIS day and age, that makes me afraid to do something different. As a 7 year old to 13 year old, I goofed off and tried to be different, I thought differently, acted differently, and eventually found out that I was the weird kid in school. I had little to no friends, because I liked things that were different from normal 12 year olds.

I have always wondered about Il-ho's motivation in this episode. Why did he beat up Nabi? Is it because he disapproves of Nabi abandoning Doki? Is it because, now that Doki is away from Nabi, he can let out all his frustrations on Nabi without her interfering? Maybe episode 6 will shed light on this.

+rinlingyo I've always taken it as Il-ho seeing how sad and hurt Doki is, and taking out his anger on Nabi. He blames Nabi for not sticking by her, and Nabi feels like he is doing the right thing in leaving because of the pain Doki has gone through because of their inter-species relationship. Nabi feels miserable and won't even fight back because he feels he deserves it. Like it's his fault Doki suffered.
