Try To Finish Something

2 жыл бұрын

In this episode, I stray from the Star Wars props and make a prop "Star Wars Adjacent" prop ... I buy a budget Indiana dairy and try and get it screen passable in this "inspired by" prop, cosplay build. Follow my Facebook Group "Try To Finish Something" for free files and patterns when possible.
#IndianaJones #RaidersoftheLostArk #cosplay
This video is a "53 Cent Production". Written, filmed, and edited by Shawn Cash, produced by Heather Atherton and Shawn Cash.
Here is the diary I found at LucanV (I found it through a Facebook ad):

Do a test on some paper that’s the same but usually when you soak paper in tea you will get a good weathered look.

Nice! To âge paper, I swear by instant coffee powder: dilute some in water in a spray bottle. Shake. You are now ready to spray away! Not only it dirties the pages and go through all the books and crannies, but it also gives a fantastic smell to the prop, a bit like an old book!

Oh my heck! Seeing your channel and the title Indiana Jones associated made my heart happy. I’ve read Adam savages book and heard him talk about the grail diary creation. It only made my nostalgia grow. So if you were even the slightest worried about dipping out if the Star Wars pool for a second..Don’t ! I loved this episode. Great job. Fantastic really.

Mr Cash, as always you have excelled in you weathering 👌🏼 every time you honestly blow my mind. Absolutely love this and just shows it’s possible to buy a pre made prop and still make it your own! Regarding the seat…. Wow! Close call sir, and a lucky outcome. Again though, you turn a negative into a funny real life story and see the humour in what could of been. Just the honest and genuine character you are. All the best to you and yours from me and mine 👍🏼 look forward to the next one.

I know shoe polish works very well for a lot of people! Shoe polish scares me a little! The few times I have tried it it stains VERY fast! That is its job. Most watered down paints and tints give you a little time to pull some back off and I don’t get that with shoe polish. But for the fake leather and stuff like that it would work great!

With the chair introduction, I was expecting you to harvest the seat cover for the book. Also random fact, When Mel Brookes was shooting Spaceballs, George Lucas told him that the lead character could not be dressed as Han Solo. This is why Lone Star is dressed as Indiana Jones. Tea is what I have always used to age paper, I might have to try the dirty water. The overall effect makes this prop a lot more believable.

I've been seeing ads for these and they often have bad reviews. But you did exactly what I was thinking to do. That the product looks like a good base to make something good. They do the hardest part; printing the book. You get to do the fun part. I thought soaking it in tea or coffee would be a great move too. What about rubbing some black and brown shoe polish on the outside?

If I want to weather something, I just leave it knocking about my shop for a year, that seems to end up looking very realistic. Weathering with water can be risky, a lot of paper these days has a high recycled content and it can disintegrate quite quickly when wet.

What's a water based oil?
@trytofinishsomething
@trytofinishsomething Жыл бұрын
If you go to an art supply store like Blicks, or Michael’s … or Amazon and search for water-based oil paints you will see a wide variety. They are oil paints that can be mixed with water to thin them out. The difference between those and acrylic (also water based) is the oil paints have an oily, grungier look. You can also play around with water colors too … each leaves a different feel!
