The guitar and the bass are doing a 3 against 2 polyrythm, it's not a polymeter.
@thomasdarista27826 жыл бұрын
@marsjacobvolta they're definitely not both correct. It's a polyrhythm, which is when two time signatures are happening in the same measure. PolyMETER is when there's two time signatures happening independently of each other, and are cycling out of sync.

@@thomasdarista2782 if my understanding is correct, the smaller the polyrhythm the easier it is to see it as a polymeter, since this is 3 against 2 it makes sense

Perpetually complexing the simple I for one am done You brought this on yourself Our problems had enough time on the shelf We made the same mistakes Lived our lives without the give and the take The time we spent apart Served to remind me of when we'd talk My one and sole regret Are the thoughts that went left unsaid Once more in to breaches I cannot gap One more chance to second guess your thoughts My friends said that you would be a tough nut to crack Come back lets settle this up

It blows my mind that people who enjoy music can see this artistry and shit all over it. Out of tune vocals? This dude is exercising two very different techniques at the same time, both at very advanced levels. I'd say he's hitting the mark exceptionally well. If you need perfect vocals I highly recommend not listening to emo or punk music.
@defnixx732 жыл бұрын
Yeah you're right but this is part of emo music. Considering that midwest emo and math rock are almost always together and this band has lots of American Football, Castever and other midwest emo influence!
@hanktremain Жыл бұрын
Actually if you listen to the bass the the vocals, the tuning's not that bad (performance really isn't that great though). Tim's guitar is far more out of tune that the vocal - but because vocals are often more of a focus, that's what gets blamed. In this space no one could hear anything - no one could hear Tim at all and I couldn't hear my voice. It's just impossible to be precise on pitch and dynamic when you can't hear what you're doing as a vocalist, and there's no way we could have known Tim was slightly out without being able to hear him. I think there's an assumption that I'm singing to the guitar, and because the guitar and vocal are out of tune with each other, the vocal is wrong - without reference you're left with muscle memory to guide your pitch. All things considered, I think we did ok.
@Lukav2008 Жыл бұрын

speaking as a musician, its pretty hard to 'stay in tune' (They mean sing in one or two scales per song with distinct, noticeable key changes. Math rock tends to lack noticeable key and time changes just by sheer volume, It doesn't take a trained ear to enjoy this music, no, but my trained ear is just completely impressed by how hank does both bass/ bassy guitar duties and manage to stay in key and on point. Out of tune can literally be subjective and entirely wrong, welcome to the very technical side of music, just without all the horns.

I'm really confused by what the singer is playing. It looks like a guitar but sounds like a bass. Does he just tune his guitar really low?

It’s a bass VI, guitar tuned an octave down
@butteredtoast437 жыл бұрын
The Mad Ginger oh alright thanks. I guess I just didn't think the tuning pegs would look like that
@NeilTheDruid6 жыл бұрын
It's not quite a Bass VI, albeit roughly the same as one. I think it's a very heavily modified Squire Jaguar Bass. New bridge, nut and in bits of this video you can see where the original tuner holes have been plugged and redrilled for the 6 new ones. Henry plays it a lot with the pick guard missing too. I'm not sure whether that's down to modding or not.
@zachjollimore43394 жыл бұрын
It's a homemade Bass VI, It's a Six string bass strung like a guitar, (Six string basses are tuned like BEADGC, whereas a Guitar and Bass VI, and well, this Jag VI are tuned for the most part EADGbE, the string spacing is more like a guitar and the strings are a thinner gauge than most basses.

ehh, henry's voice really kills this performance for me. this is one of my favourite songs from them in large part because of the emotion and variation in stuarts voice but henry's voice sounds monotonous and almost computer generated. it reminds me of the Daisy Bell song that IBM taught their computer to sing in 1961 lol.. like 2:33, come on, is that really passable? i understand that he should have his own voice and not try to copy stuart but i can even see it in his face, he barely even sounds like he's trying to sing at all let alone sound like the original. it should be sung with quiet malaise and hes singing it literally no differently than any other part of the song.

I think a huge thing you've got to consider is that Stu didn't have to worry about playing an instrument in a lot of ttng's earlier stuff, plus Henry has a completely different timbre and range than Stu. It's hard enough to have to learn albums worth of songs, but to merge a vocal part that isn't within your range plus multitasking with another instrument is kind of crazy. More recent live recordings of Gibbon with Henry singing sound pretty good. I think he's just out of practice on this one. They all played a little sloppy in these sessions, Chris speeds up like mad in this one, Tim messes up in Whatever Whenever at the end.
@belowyellowbells5 жыл бұрын
@@Lkease People love to hate on Henry but the dude is brilliant, any little errors in his performances stand out a lot because 95% of the time he's flawlessly playing and singing super complex melodies and bass lines.
