You know, I was thinking the same thing! Like Bowie, there are so many different looks to choose from. They’d probably go with the Wembley concert film or LiveAid ensemble but the outfit from I want to break free video would be hilarious and cheeky! Frankly, I think that the main reason they haven’t done one (beyond licensing issues potentially) is the fact the most indelible images of Freddie are of him with that big Ol mustache. Freddy was a little guy but masculine AF. His androgynous period was pretty brief, especially compared to Bowie. A Freddie Mercury Barbie would kinda have to be a Ken. Personally, I’d like to see the Ramones. It’d have to be a 3 doll set (the drummer is probably best represented as a photograph on the box backdrop.) They’d have to use a couple different faces & bodies but there’s No facial hair to deal with. Plus, tennies, ripped jeans & a leather jacket is a good, non-gender specific look that would be great for a female doll dressed to portray a male musician. Minus the rips, they’ve already done a Barbie dressed as a dude in jeans & leather jacket when they did the Platinum Label Andy Warhol doll. I thought it looked more like Debbie Harry than Andy Warhol and more like Debbie than the actual Debbie Harry Barbie from the Ladies of the 80s series.

I have both … I am disappointed the hair color is not as bright as it looked in the ad and looked more auburn. They are special but I think if the hair color was more accurate it would bring it up a notch.

This is second series new David bowie Barbie First series David Bowie is also beautiful too. However, as time goes on , first series Bowie Barbie whose price will go up gradually. Buy it as soon as you can. Otherwise, you will pay a lot of money for the first David bowie Barbie.

Granted, I’ve never seen one right up close but my main- nay, ONLY- problem with these Bowie dolls is the choice of face mold. How many pictures are there, even candid ones, of Homie with a big ol toothy grin? A couple. But not many. And none in this particular ensemble. There are relatively few photos of him smiling at all and the ones where you do see his teeth show you why he didn’t very often. No disrespect intended of course. It kind of added to his idiosyncratic beauty. But purely in the interest of realism, I feel like there are better faces for a Barbie does Bowie doll. Maybe the Louboutin? Whichever mold the silver label Andy Warhol doll (the one in the soup-can dress & leopard coat with the dangly earrings that would look almost exactly like Edie Sedgwick were it not for the waist-length hair & absence of rooted lashes) would be perfect in my estimation. They seem to have used the superstar mold but painted the smile a little less toothy? Even the Mackie mold with its closed mouth smile would potentially be better. I suppose they had their reasons for picking that one. I suppose I’m probably leaving myself open to a barrage of mean remarks and/or smiling Bowie pics but that’s my opinion. I’m not alone. It was my fiancé who first showed me the two Bowie Barbies & he agreed with me. The costumes & boxes, on the other hand, I can’t say anything against. Some dolls in my experience lose a little something removed from the perfectly staged environment of their box. This is one that I would definitely keep in the box. These short, spiky hairdos are notoriously not easy to accomplish on a Barbie & I think they’ve done a pretty good job at it.
