So, out of curiosity, and being that in some of these interviews and discussions, they are talking the difference of average MPH (what I'll refer to as MPHa) for the course and at other times being seconds behind. Generally speaking, in closed circuit racing we are talking lap times, often in the 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, and rarely mention average lap times. I thought I'd crunch a few numbers and share the results... So, I first compare the difference between doing a 134 MPHa with a 135 MPHa, just the diff. of 1 MPHa. The lap times are for :135 MPHa 16.7689 minutes.. 134 MPHa 16.894 minutes. Difference: ................. 0.125 minutes or 7.5 seconds. With an assumption of 150 MPH crossing the finish line.............. 150 MPH = 220.005 ft. sec. The slower bike would be .....................1650 ft. behind, or 0.3125 mi. or basically 1/3 of a mile. (220.005 ft. x 7.5 sec. = 1650 ft.)

Interesting mix of performances throughout the whole practice week and all the different category's of bikes. one thing i have always wondered is how come the riders don't wear a "balaclava"? surely for safety a fire resistant balaclava should be a requirement? also to stop any unwanted insects / debris hitting on the riders necks etc. look what happened to Guy Martin when he walked out of a fireball of a crash. maybe someone knows an answer to this question.

They're talking about average lap speed - 133mph etc. The top boys are sub-17 mins for a lap now at full tilt.
