I was 16 and driving my car down the road...this song came on the radio and I couldn't believe what I was hearing...the DJ said it was by Bob Dylan and I pulled into the nearest store and bought Desire...2 weeks later I had a half dozen Dylan albums and played them to death. That was over 4 decades ago. I'll always remember that first moment and the thrill of listening to Dylan...nobody comes close to his talent and genius.

You are so right. In 1976 I drove 900 miles to visit my brother and I had forgotten my 8 track case with all my tapes. This album “Desire” had been released a few months before my trip and the tape was in my tape deck. I listened to it over and over for 900 miles and never tired of it. I’ve seen Dylan perform about 80 times over the years and except those 8 years Larry Campbell was his guitar player I enjoyed the ‘70’s the most.

Scarlet Rivera added so much to the Desire album and became a legend. The story of how she became part of the album is serendipitous, to say the least. The part seldom told is that she replaced the lead guitarist scheduled for that album. In her words: "I actually replaced a lead guitarist that was supposed to be on the album, and was already on the album. That was in full progress before I walked in - and that guitarist was Eric Clapton."

I like music as much as the next guy. But I don't form opinions based upon songs. Artists as a group are fairly flakey people and are not predisposed to logic and reason. I wouldn't want to fly in an airplane designed by artists (if that were even possible). I know a little bit about the case of Hurricane Carter because I had relatives in Jersey who were living close by at the time this went down. Carter was in fact guilty. There is no getting around it. The book in question was titled "Hurricane: The Miraculous Journey of Rubin Carter" and sitting right there at the table was both the author James S. Hirsch and Rubin Carter himself. They both signed the book. For those who know, Rubin moved to Toronto after being released from jail because the group of people responsible for helping him clear his name and get out of jail were from Toronto. Hence, this lovely encounter. At the time, I was unfamiliar with Rubin Carter and his tragic flight. When he signed my book, I could see in his eyes he wanted to discuss his story. I think I mumbled a few incoherent words to him. After reading the book and watching the movie that this book was made into, I realized who I had met. wow. And now he is gone.

The first record I ever had was. Jimmy Cliff -The Harder They Come. That was about 30 years ago. I still have the record .I was around 5 or so. But I had *respect* for the vinyl. We had this kinda crazy 80s upright turntable... All I gotta say is THANK YOU! Bob Dylan and Co. & Everybody else out there in radio land. 📻📡 You've been extremely generous, and given us all we have ever wanted or deserved and *then* *some* . Music and the arts, like many other things in life, are just fckn miraculous! Fwiw of course there really aren't words to empathisize..being locked in the slammer for 20y on bogus murder charges... Unimaginably shitty.... especially because of ones race or simply happened to be there... Additionally I'd like to add, it churns my stomach just knowing that a killer could be walking free 🆓 and knowing that another man, a stranger, is taking the dive for you... That's also.. genuinely fcked up..because obviously..he has taken his life as well. And spouse etc For me⚖️ .I'm not sure which is more//less evil? ....🎭 Hate to say it... but I think I'd probably prefer being blown away and murdered in cold blood for what was in my pockets...than rot in a prison cell for the rest of my life .convicted of a crime I was totally innocent of......wtf 😭😔 Just remember... Hard time is a LONG FCKN TIME!! I know a guy who went I'm like 18years ago...for not much..he's still in there.. And what folks often fail to mention is... A prison sentence.. it's also taking The BEST YEARS of your life! I won't even compare my situation to prison... But I'll add this...I cared for my mom who unexpectedly got cancer/paraplegia when I was 24. I had a good career etc. I moved back into her basement and helped take care of her..for the next 11 years... Terminal illness... is..not good.. And yeah I'm not gonna bitch and say it was like doing a dime in the state penitentiary.. but it certainly what I wasn't wanting to do...I believe that every person should have the most freedom that is possible.. and well, all my friend are married...turns out..age 35 is leftovers/damaged goods.. in short, in some ways I have been severely stunted.. Well.. for Rubin.. At least he had some good luck on his side.. let's just say. Its UNLIKELY he was getting beat up in prison.....dude looked like he a cannon on him💥🚂🏆 I want to stress, I'm not comparing anything or anyone, nor would I want to.. I'm merely illustrating that ⏳TIME⌛ is limited.. spend your time wisely..if you are lucky to have people you love, be with them. You can overcome ANY petty squabbles or whatever.. when u just step back and look at the BIG picture 💫 It's shtty to have to live your life for someone who's sick..etc. but I made the choice. I had an amazing girlfriend/fiance.. It wasn't fair for her to be in the situation of caring for MY mom..wasting her youth in the basement..so I dumped her... and she went running...haven't heard from her again.. hope I do.. that was nearly two years ago..Nothing...we didn't even fight once in 3 years..I actually didn't know that was possible...and now that my entire family is dead and gone..and I'm alone..it is... very upsetting to think of my sweetheart...😔 I can see how someone could be bitter... Lots of feelz.. but frankly... I'm extremely grateful for what i have and had...at least i got to experience real love..if only for a time.. and certainly not ideal living conditions.. but that's life.. I know for a fact that many/most people will not be fortunate to experience that level of passion. I've had a lot of women...none could compare.. maybe you're 🤔 thinking.. He's putting that pssy on a pedestal... Well... She deserved to be.. and more.. she was a fckn goddess /angel 😇.. For christsake.. she stopped out of college to help my sick mother.. she's a saint.. I fckd her up... I know I did... 😖😞

@@saraivatoledo1842 you actually wrong on this one. Im just a guy who loves the real music and not this crap that people listen to these days...and for me Bob Dylan is one of the greatest there is. The lyrics that this man comes up with are just great. Hurricane and Ballad of a thin man is definitly my two favorites

First heard this on a radio program called ALBUM REPLAY on CFMI, I was 15 or 16 and I listened to this program every night, back then FM radio was something only the old folks listened to but I didnt care, I would shoot pool in my Grandma Mann's basement ( THE BEST GRANDMOTHER EVER!!!!!! ) and all of this new music would flow over me and started me on the lifelong quest to see, hear & enjoy as much music as I could. I heard this song, the DJ explained a bit of the story behind it, next day I was at the library trying to find out all I could, a defining moment in my musical life and I saw DYLAN every time I could, but I never will again, the last time I saw him he butchered TANGLED UP IN BLUE so badly I ended up leaving, but still a great memory of first hearing this

I had an uncle who would sing all of Bob’s song by heart in key to in his voice. Everybody in my family always got annoyed because they said he sounded too much like Bob Dylan But i alway would sit there and just be mesmerized to him play even after they kicked him out the party

It's horrible. Hurricane is known to be guilty, go make a song about OJ Simpson. This song was in very poor taste.

@David Walsh the man's name is Rubin Carter. While that name can be spelled different ways, his specific spelling is Rubin.

@Brett R I doubt that buddy. Carter was wrongfully convicted and was released after being locked up 20 years! It was a specific situational song song I doubt it fit a regular concert lineup!
